The Dumbest Reason You Ever Gave For Buying a Bag

What a funny thread . Here are some excuses for buying a bag:

1. Because I stalked it for so long and “worked” so hard to hunt it down.
2. Because so and so annoyed/pissed me off.
3. Because it’s better for my diet than buying a sweet treat.

@Iamminda & @RuedeNesle I love the #2 reason! I use this excuse too.

Used to be when my daughter was an infant, I’d buy a bag whenever my husband pissed me off.

They were all dumb tbh. Self enabling at its finest. I try not to lie to myself anymore and just buy it. I am going to work on this addiction in 2022 though and cut down on the bags that I purchase.

Latest dumb reason: OMG This was the first bag and color that introduced me to what used to be my favorite brand, and look! It's in like-new condition! I must have it for history's sake! Good times!

Ah, but, I'd have to disagree. The reason isn't a lie, per se. Just that we're not allowed to be honest with our purchases, whether it's our own messed up selves or the way we were raised, or something disallows us the pure pleasure of getting something we want, with no excuses needed.

I bought my Neverfull as a graduation present this past summer when I earned my bachelors degree!! My dh was like, “I never heard of someone buying themselves a grad gift…”. I was like well now you have!

I am relieved to hear you and others use excuse #2 as well. This is a lovely bag — good luck selling it (or just keep it for crazy days when you don’t want to wear red).

#2! True confession: Vacation, 2008. Because of issues during my visit with my DD, I spent the second week of my vacation with my sister. I was so angry I bought a Dolce and Gabbana Miss Easy Way tote with the money I had earmarked for the rest of my time with my DD and her family. (Plus money I wasn't planning on spending.) I really wanted red but black and grey were the only colors at Neiman Marcus in SF. (And in my frame of mind I let the SA convince me black would be more professional.) I felt good at first, carrying it during my last week of vacation, but when I returned home carrying the bag kept reminding me of an unpleasant vacation. And I really don't carry black bags! It almost didn't make the move here in 2014, but I felt for what I paid I should keep it until I'm ready to seriously try to sell it. Picture taken June 28, 2021 when I mentioned not using it in another thread and Minda suggested I sell it with The Real Real or Fashionphile. I haven't done that yet.

When I read the post by @Annawakes about getting the barenia, I thought to myself "Notorious Pink just wrote a column about possibly getting something in barenia, I hope this encourages her to get a barenia as well." Hahaha!!!
