The Borough Bag

I only started buying Coach in Nov. of last year. It was actually the grommet Borough that lured me in although I never actually bought that bag. It just made me stop and look and make a decision to start buying nicer bags for myself. Before that I was content to buy my bags at REI. :) Anyway, I really love the look of the Borough, but I only bought one mini in black. Now the website only has one style and color listed. Did I miss out, or will there be more in the future? Do I need to run to an outlet? How long does a style usually hang around?

I would definitely recommend going to the outlet soon. They've had them for a while.

I think the boroughs will phase out. The bag debuted before Vever's takeover, and Coach is trying to go in a different direction...so yeah. If I were you, I would start looking into what designs you like, and choose before they're completely discontinued.

This is already reality. The FP site only has one color option for the borough. They put all the other styles in the SAS. I was not not fortunate enough to get an invite to the last MFF online sale but if they weren't on that sale I'm sure those deletes are making their way to an upcoming reserve sale.

Oh jeeze. I really thought the saffiano would hold the structure better. Tags are still on mine. I have a few more weeks to decide. Although I know my local fp will act like they are going out of their way to let me return it. They try anything to try and keep you from returning. My local outlet always loved my returns and the SAs bought them for themselves before I even left the store but they closed a few days ago. Does your borough have any corner wear?

No corner wear, if anything my pebbled ones actually have a little bit of wear on the corner. But I think that's because I banged it against walls. The saffiano borough is gorgeous, i love it...I think i'm just realising that saffiano leather isn't all that I thought it was. I have a few other saffiano leather pieces, and they have bends and waves in it. I'm going to switch to regular leather from here on out.

I've compared it to a MK saffiano selma and my sutton and it definitely feels thinner. I've been carrying my sutton stuffed full for about a month and the shape hasn't changed at all. I loaded the borough up with my usual things and hung it on a door handle for a day and it already has started to wrinkle where the handles are attached. I just really wish they would have made more styles in purple iris. I have the mini brooklyn which I love but I wish she was bigger. I've been hunting a purple bag that will fit my stuff plus diapers and wipes. I've never spent this much time debating a bag before! !

I have the mini bar stripe borough in the grey/white, black smooth leather; the vermillion smooth leather 3 zipper medium and the open camel napanil.
The bar stripe was a have to have and I honestly think for a little bag it holds a lot - probably more with one less zipper but it's a fashion statement and I love it. I fit sunglasses, wallet, 4 lipsticks, errand list and coupons, etc. - everything from my medium but I just don't carry that much compared to some. I use it on weekends away as it small and lightweight and fun. Can't wait to take her out this year. Match it up with striped maxi dresses for a really cute look. The vermillion was a great price new but I knew it was one too many zips as well but love that size bag. Now for my favorite, the napanil open simply because it works well for me - I like an open bag with some place for secure items. I love love love the magnetic closure in the middle which is where I put my wallet. It looks like a seamed compartment so I never worry and often forget the wallet when changing out - yikes. The napanil is one of the lightest bags I own as well. All three bags serve a different purpose. The pebble ones are nice in that the leather wears better but far heavier. The napanil seems to come to a nice drape making an otherwise structured bag not so structured looking. As for loosing its structure, I have seen none of that. I just don't care for saffiano leather in these bags - I don't care for the look. I'm a fan of saffiano on a work bag but limit it to a Prada tote or a Tory Burch which I love every bit as much. I don't really want more than 2. I'm a soft leather gal. Hope this helps.
Syrenitytoo, after reading your reply, I decided to give the mini version one more chance so I bought one with only 2 zippers (and I believe it's pebbled leather). I think it's a little lighter than the saffiano mini that I returned, and it hold more stuff without changing its shape! One less zipper does give more space. I'm so happy now. I also bought it on sale at Macys. I guess this line will be discontinued soon based on what tPFers have said so I needed to be hurry up! lol Now i can't wait to take it out.
Anyway thanks so much for your reply, it helped me out a lot!:heart:

I'm late to the party but I really like my camel Borough bag. And even if Coach is phasing them out, this type of structured bag (like Prada saffiano) is still popular I think.

I haven't been to the outlet in some time but I recently went to one and they had a few borough bags in the 50% plus 20%/30% additional area. I was really surprised to see they had a couple of regular size and mini black pebbled ones (maybe 2 each?) along with a few other choices. Not a ton of them but a decent variety. I don't expect they will last long as they were such a popular seller but it is sure nice to see them at the outlet.

Yes, I think the general shape of the bag is going strong-saw a bag by Lauren by Ralph Lauren that has the same shape. However, given that the Prada saffiano has its quality issues, and other options are a bit too small for me (I carry the Coach large), the borough bag is my main go-to bag. Glad I was able to get all the designs I liked, before they're being replaced.

Prada is too expensive for me, esp with the quality issues and other similar bags being available for a fraction of the price.
I'm quite happy with my Borough bag. I carried it for two weeks and forced myself to rotate to another bag.

Yes, when I balked at the price+quality issues of the Prada, I decided to wait on the bag, and then was pleasantly surprised to find the borough, for only a 1/3 of the price (for a large). Given how durable it is, and most I purchased off PCE and SAS, it's really my favorite staple bag. :smile1: Sad Coach is phasing it out!

I think the Borough bag really is one of the classiest styles and I think it stands very well as a wonderful alternative to premier versions with a similar design. I know that Coach wants to skew young and hip but I think they would have done really well to keep this line in the fold to attract those of us who have enjoyed Coach's more classic styles. I think the Borough will be missed by many when it's gone.
