Does anyone have the pebbled borough (eg oxblood or alpine moss) as well as the glove tan borough (eg vermilion). Just wondering which leather you prefer and how each of them has been holding up.

I have both the black pebbled & the camel smooth. For day to day wearability, i prefer the pebbled leather. It holds up to everything & i don't feel the need to baby it. The smooth leather, while beautiful, is prone to show scratches & i feel the need to be more careful when wearing it.

Ditto. I have the large patchwork though, and was surprised that it's indestructible!

Anyone own the Soft Borough (regular size) can tell me if the short straps lay flat eventually? I looked at 6 different ones last night and only one (camel) had a strap that would lay flat flipped down. And even that one it was the one side, not both. But it gave me hope that maybe they would settle down eventually?

If Coach had used 1/4" of more leather for the handle slot, it wouldn't be an issue!

I need a black medium size E/W cross body. Everything now has satchel straps which are always poking my armpit, let alone how weird it lays when you wear a coat.

I wish Coach hadn't discontinued the latest Madison hardware - it was classy and the handles always laid flat.
Yes, at first when I saw the soft Boroughs, that was my exact thought - why did they scrimp on the leather. But after owning one, eventually they lay flat - not in the same manner as they would with metal hardware but then again, that is not the look they were trying to achieve. Of all the Boroughs I own, I prefer the medium soft one! would love to get yet another, but I must branch out. The napanil leather is just sooo yummy in my opinion. Do not hesitate!

I just got a Borough in the retro glove leather. Is this what you mean by soft leather?
The handles will lay flat when bag is sitting down but as soon as I pull up on the long strap, it seems to pull the handles up. Most of the modeling pics I've seen the handles are up (except for the minis).
Is this just the way it has to be?

No, the soft boroughs are napanil, which is lamb leather; the retro-glove are regular (zipped) boroughs in calf, if I remember correctly.

thanks
so do you have any advice on the handles?
are the double handles just going to stand up when you use the long strap?

Depends on the leather, I think; for the retro-glove, which is a bit stiffer than the napanil, I think it may just stand up, if the leather was thick at the metal part. Or it may soften, but that'll take a while. I usually just push the handles off to the other side, away from my body when I'm wearing the bag with the long strap; so far, it doesn't really bother me, but I can see how it can be annoying if the handles keeps brushing/bumping against you.

I was thinking more of the look of it....I'd prefer if the handles laid down when not in use

Same; I think it's how the leather wrap around the metal part...some other designers use less leather there, so it stays down. Other than that, I really don't think I have much to complain about the bag; it's really one of my favorite Coach styles!
So my straps will fold down against the bag when it's sitting but when I pull up on the long strap, it seems to grab the handles and pull them up. I don't see any other way of attaching the long strap so I guess this is just the way it is.
