Chiming in: This is great info as I had tried on a Teddy (full length) at a Max Mara boutique. Looking in the mirror I felt I looked like sasquatch. Was it my height (5'9)? Then I tried on a short Teddy and thought it looked very chic but I'm still concerned that I might look like a tall rectangular fuzzy box on stilts. This revelation, if you will, that it now comes with a cinch able waist has me ready to pull the trigger on that one.

maxmara.com has a few more mod pics. this parka style is quite versatile. am a fan of the lower cinch, which would vary on different heights. the tobacco is a great color too. let me know what you think if you do get it.

I am 5" 2", and the Teddy looked ridiculous on me.
This new parka looks great. I hope it becomes popular and comes in other colors, specifically, the camel color.
I want to look like a camel-colored fuzzy teddy bear.

I like the low-waist cinch as well. It keeps the puffy look of the Teddy theme. Thanks for sharing.

Has anyone worn the mittens in the Teddy fabric? They're expensive for mittens but I kinda like the cord. Unless I'll feel like a child...

Any reviews? I want warmth, no finger tips freezing or anything. Cute but not practical?mmm.jpg

Hi all,
I would really appreciate your opinion on this:
A black coat has been on my list and my mind for the past few years and I am finally ready to get it but I have no store near me to go and try Max Mara main line coats to compere them and I can't decide if I should get the black Manuela or the black Madame. I have already the Manuela in camel and love it, I also think the Madame looks great in camel (or the other light colours) but I am not sure I like it that much in black... I don't know if it makes sense to go for the same style different colour or would be better to have a Madame in my collection too (even tough I would like it more in a different colour)...
I am gravitating more towards Madame purely because IMHO it looks more casual and it would be more wearable as an everyday coat... but at the same time the Manuela could also be dressed up or down...:-s
I would love to hear what you think.
Thank you so much in advance

I would go for Madam. I like the casual cut. There are so many more colour choices for Madam ..they have new colours.. Dark grey, navy blue, ...curious what everyone thinks of the colour Cacha Scuro.
I recently bought the Camel but I'm torn between 2 sizes...

Hi! My two cents…
I have tried both, and I have the Manuela, black and also red. I love the Manuela as it looks fabulous with any outfit.

The Madame is very very loose which is fine. However, the deal breaker for me was the kimono sleeves. The sleeves are very wide, but worse, there is no defined shoulder line. This means if you have small or round shoulders, your shoulders will look droopy. Also, again on the sleeves, there is a lot of space under the armpit. The cut is a very generous cut, so you have to really love that look.

I have square shoulders, but I am small, 5’ 2”, so I felt the coat wore me.
I even like big, loose fitting coats and buy my Max Maras one size up. This coat just did not look elegant on me.

I love the Manuela, and I do purchase repeats of styles I love, not just coats, but tops, pants, shoes, etc. Wearing coats to me is about what looks great on you, and different colors are very different coats. You can have a camel color coat and a black color coat, same style and it looks very different.

On the contrary, if you had a black Manuela and black Madame, I would say they look the same.

Max Mara coats last years. I say get the coat style that looks amazing on you.

For me, it’s the Manuela, and I hope it comes out in ivory next season. I would love to add an ivory to my black and red.

Just my two cents. Hope this helps you decide. Pay attention to the shoulder and armpit. How those two areas fit make or a break the look in a coat to me.

By the way, I do not have a Max Mara near me either. I order online and order two sizes. You may want to do that with the Madame so you can compare with your Manuela. I would suggest ordering your size and also one size down. Many websites are free shipping & return, including maxmara.com.

Good luck!

ETA: By the way, how about red? Color coats are very in now, and red is a neutral, yet it pops. Who doesn’t love a happy red coat! I want to pop and look happy! For me, I think I am tired of predictable,
boring black. I love my red Manuela. Just a thought.

Thank you for your input!
I just got the Madame delivered and waiting on the Manuela to arrive tomorrow (couldn’t resist and ordered both )
I think I agree with you, Madame is definitely casual and I think that it looks classic and cool at the same time.
I ordered both in size IT38 UK6 and I am happy with the size of the Madame. My camel Manuela is IT42 (this is my usual size) but I feel that it is too oversized that’s why I decided to go 2 sizes down.
I will post pictures tomorrow when I have both.
As for the new Cacha Scuro, I think it’s beautiful! It’s a lovely soft dark brown shade, I was really tempted when I saw it a few days ago but then again I would also think that I still need a black one too…. and it gets very expensive
The other Madam that I really like is the new dark grey and I probably would have gotten that one instead of the black as it is in a way “softer black” but I have the dark gray Teddy which I also love and wear quite a lot so decided that I don’t need two very similar colours (I know, different coats but still)

Congratulations on getting your camel Madam!
I honestly think that camel is the best colour for Madame (and Manuela for that matter) but for me it was either Manuela or Madame in that colour, I didn’t want to have both in camel.
What size is yours?

Thank you so much for your reply. It makes so much sense, it absolutely depends on body shape, how you like wearing it etc.

I have tried Madame in IT40 and 42 in camel a while ago and I remember both looking quite big on me, that’s why I ordered IT38 and I think that fits me much better.
I’ll wait for the Manuela tomorrow and post both.
So red… I have max&co runaway in red (very bright red, not like the sophisticated Manuela red, which is gorgeous, and nowhere near the quality of it, but it was on sale and I couldn’t not get it for the price it was) and I have to admit I really enjoy wearing it, however I don’t think red suits me very much in general and purely for that reason I am not sure I could spend that much money on a red coat…
I know black is boring and this is exactly what my first thought was today when I put the black Madame on and I know that there are so many other colours that are far more beautiful and interesting but probably because I don’t own one it has been always on my mind..
Lets wait for the Manuela tomorrow, I’ll post some pictures and hopefully decide what to do about my black coat obsession
Thank you again x

BigAkoya, I just want to say thank you again! I was reading one more time your first reply (there were so many valid points and good advices, I had to go back:), I wish I new that when I was ordering my first Manuela:
"Pay attention to the shoulder and armpit. How those two areas fit make or a break the look in a coat to me"
I didn't noticed the armpits because the shoulders were somehow ok but now I know why it always feels a bit odd when I put it on, it's the armpit area that doesn't fit properly. Would be interesting to see how the black one IT38 will compere to the camel IT42

I hope they make your ivory Manuela soon:) xx

What size is yours?

I tried size IT 36 at Maxmara Store. At that time I thought it was too big so I ended up ordering IT 34. After trying it at home with Jumpers/ I found it way too tight around my armpits. I returned it and ordered size IT 40 online. It arrived... depending how I wore it it looked lovely in an oversize type of coat way however my head looked so tiny in comparison to my coat ;-). I'm now ordering size IT 38. The reason why I'm ordering these coats online is because they had none of the sizes in stock at MaxMara Stores. I felt pressed by the sales clerks at that time to buy IT 36 but I'm glad I didn't force myself to buy it.

As reference .. I did alot of research on YouTube/ Instagram to try and figure out which size to buy..(I'm 167cm all) found majority opting for a tighter fitting Size IT 34 the smallest size .. or opting for the oversize look IT40-42.

You described my exact issue with the Madame when I tried it on.
It's supposed to be oversized and sloppy looking, but the oversized look made me look like I had droopy shoulders/little head!
Then I tried to go down a size or two, but the shoulder/armpit area felt a bit snug on me when I tried to cross my arms, which defeats the whole point of the oversized look. I think people really need to just embrace the oversize sloppy look as it was meant to be if they want a Manuela. The cut also a very "rounded shoulder bubble coat" which I decided is not my shape.

I hope your IT38 works for you! I love ordering online now to try my sizes a hundred times.
I also do find the Maxmara SAs (NYC) a bit pushy wanting to sell what's in stock.
