The beauty of MAX MARA coats...(photos please)

Please tell me, do they tend to run true to size? A little big or small?
To me, MaxMara (main line), runs true to size or slightly large.
Speaking in terms of jackets, I find the waist to be generous which is good as if you are picky, you can always get that tailored easily.

When you try on your coat, be sure the shoulders and armpits fit to your liking. Those are two important fit areas. Once you have those two areas nailed, any adjustments you need for the waist or sleeves are no big deal.

The tag is cut as the item was purchased from one of the Max Mara outlets (usually in Italy, but I think they have 2 more outlets in other EU countries). Not to be confused with Serravalle Designer Outlet. It is against their policy to sell items with the brand tag on.
I agree with BigAkoya and believe the jacket is from the Max Mara mainline.

Hi! I actually spoke to customer service about the red shade, and she told me it varies slightly by season.

Here is my story of the "reds"....
I ordered the red Rialto via MaxMara.com as that was the only online site that carried this color (I checked Saks, BG, NM, Bloomies). I ordered both a size 4 and 6 as I wanted it loose because I plan to wear it over thick cashmere sweaters. It actually took over two weeks to ship, but the size 4 arrived. The size 6 had not shipped yet. The size 4 was a bit big, so I knew the 6 would be huge. I was also then not thrilled about the red shade nor the hood.

I called MaxMara to cancel shipping the size 6. I was curious asked why it takes so long to ship (more stores ship within days). The rep said for US orders, the garment is actually shipped from Italy to their warehouse in the US. Once they receive it, they ship it to me. I then mentioned I plan to return the size 4 also as the red is not a true red but more a rust red.

The rep said the red varies slightly by season and even by lot. Hmm....

Fast forward a few days...
I still want a red coat this season, and I decided on Manuela. I remembered the rep saying the red varies, so I decided not to buy it MaxMara.com for fear it might be the same rust red.

I ordered a red Manuela in size 2 and size 4 from NM. Both red shades are identical, and both are a deep red. The red is not like the Christmas red shown on the website. Rather, it is a nice deep winter red with a drop of blue which I actually like more (I was a tiny bit worried about the red being too "Christmas" festive if that makes sense).

Hope this helps with the "red" theory!
I am sure you love the black! It's such a classic.
My next color is ivory. I want an ivory coat. I had one a long time ago and loved it.
I hope they offer that shade next year.
Thought this was interesting. @BigAkoya prompted me to reconsider reds, so I ordered two red Manuela’s from 24S. I ordered the first one in the wrong size so ordered a second one. They both arrived today…. And the two are different shades of red AND different thicknesses! Fortunately the one in the correct size was that lovely deep red that I had been hunting. The other was slightly thicker, which would have been nice, but the more rust colour that I did not want! (Maybe one was last season?)

Regardless, I’m so happy I got my red Manuela!

I am so happy for you! Yippee! You got a Manuela, and the red is gorgeous!
Isn't it crazy how the reds are so different? I am so glad you tried again. Winner!

Congratulations again!

Just my two cents to share my point of view. Hope this helps.
O.M.G.

You guys did not tell me how incredibly lush, lightweight and luxurious this blazer would be!

I mean, y'all said Max Mara camel was nice, but this is other level. It is so lightweight and delicious to touch!

In the end, I bought the equivalent of the blazer with the removed label. I got a size larger (good choice, but needs shortening a bit). It also had the label removed. Not ideal, but that's what the gal gots.

Is camel always like this, or is this the Max Mara difference?

The pockets are sewn shut so tightly that it looks like they are only flaps, but I think I feel the pocket underneath.

The weather is about to chill in a few days and I am so ready for it!

Yippee! I am so glad you love your jacket! Great idea to remove the label. The lining has Max Mara anyway.
Yes... MaxMara camel is fabulous! I love MaxMara camel!

On your pocket...
I am sure it's a real pocket. It is sewn shut because that's how they come new, so the pockets look pristine.
Look at the very edge of the sewn seam, you will see a tiny opening.
You need to open the pockets otherwise, it looks cheesy.
Use a seam remover, go very slow, and pull out the the thread. Do it loop by loop.
Be sure NOT to cut the fabric. In my haste, I have accidentally slit the fabric, so I go really slow now when opening up my jackets.
Here is the tool I am talking about if you don't know. You can also use tiny scissors, but just be sure you know you are cutting only the thread loops.

You can always take it to a tailor for help; it will literally take 5 minutes.

Here is also a video I found of what to open up for a jacket (check for you X if you have a back slit). Hope this helps.

Congratulations again! I am so excited for you!

Thanks for the reminder to be patient. Yes, I have seam rippers. I also have the delicacy of a gila monster, so put it in the closet for a more leisurely moment. Or, I might have the tailor do it when I get the arms shortened.

The length is also a little bit long, I might have it shortened all around, but that looks like a lot more work. I might not.

I have a suede jacket that is almost the exact same color and style. The fit is a tiny bit better, but as suede, it is a lot more heavy and not nearly as luxurious. I'll probably pass it along. We'll see.

Love this @randr21 - I am also petite and think the Icon teddy or Tedgirl would look comically oversized on me. How are you finding the wear? Do you wear it formally or more casually, I was wondering if the cinched waist made it more of a casual coat. Thanks!

If anyone else has this coat or tried it on, would love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

someone asked about my short teddy. this season they came out with the nebula. love the cinched waist and the length is great for petites.

I don't have this one, but the original short teddy. I like the cinched waist of this new style, which is def more casual. It's great bc this one feature gives you two looks. Check out mytheresa.com, which has the best modeling pics.

Chiming in: This is great info as I had tried on a Teddy (full length) at a Max Mara boutique. Looking in the mirror I felt I looked like sasquatch. Was it my height (5'9)? Then I tried on a short Teddy and thought it looked very chic but I'm still concerned that I might look like a tall rectangular fuzzy box on stilts. This revelation, if you will, that it now comes with a cinch able waist has me ready to pull the trigger on that one.
