Thanks to everyone who responded! Yes, I'm talking about the straps to fasten the bag - not the shoulder strap. The two straps literally will not budge!!

I am absolutely clueless as well. Only thing I could imagine: press the bag from the bag to the front at the same place where the button for the 2 straps is as this will give you a more even angle to pull them out.
honestly I think it’s very likely that something is really wrong with the bag. It’s so easy to put the straps out…
Mine was difficult when I got it too. It was because the flap was so stiff. Like justdennis84 said, you could try pushing the flap against the canvas near the metal that both straps are through (not sure what it’s called because it’s like a clasp but not a clasp). While you’re pushing the flap against the canvas, pull one of the straps out. I still have to “push in” my flap to open my bag, which I think is good because it makes the bag more secure.
Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take photos! I'll have to do it tonight as they won't do anything until I send them pictures. I'm tempted to just return it within the return window and call it at loss.
Just sent the photos and waiting for an update from Hermes. My husband even tried to pull the straps out and couldn’t do it. He said if he tried any harder he would damage the bag. Will report back once I get a response.
Update for everyone! I sent the photos and never received an email back from Hermes.com - odd as they always respond quickly.
Today I decided to cut my losses and take the bag to the store here in Los Angeles to my sales associate. She couldn’t get it open and either could the manager. They both said I should return it. So long story short, I returned the bag. Not sure if I’ll try to get another one on the website.

Would you kindly share what aspects of the Herbag were you able to customize please? Thank you!
If it’s the same kind of order I was able to make, you can choose the colour of the canvas, of the leather, add the enamel on the buckle if you want and you can add initials on the clochette. Not all colours of leather and canvas are available, only a selection. Only size 31 was available.
Hunter is a very stiff leather and as it flexes creases will form.
you could try moisturising the straps but tbh I doubt it will make much if any difference.
