My SA mentioned that LV decided on this recently so may be the SA didn't know? When I took mine in my SA wasn't in that day so another SA helped me. She asked me when it was purchased which was Dec 2013, and told me there's a charge. I let her know what my SA had told me and she went in the back to check and came back confirming that it was free of charge for the lifetime of the bag. I would ask the SA to check for you or you can try calling the 1800#. I been wanting to replace my plate since last May and I had inquired about the cost twice and completely forgot about it as I was probably too excited about my new purchases.
I'm also getting the letter tab by the S lock on my Metis replaced due to color transfer at no charge.
Here are pics of my Favorites' plate. My mono was used everyday for pretty much the first year.

I prefer bag charms on larger bags. I like to use the Favorite's chain, hanging outside as a "charm".

omg this is such a good idea. kicking myself for not reading this thread sooner. I have the MM in monogram and the front plate is all scratched up. :sad::sad::sad:
