I’m currently with Dior but that’s probably because I already have Chanel bags that i love in my collection . To be honest Dior has better quality . however if you handbag collector having both brands will be ideal .they are my top 2 brands . but Dior customer service win hands down. I got moon cake and free cruise 2021 tote from my SA while I never gotten anything from Chanel even though I have spent so much on them too. bummer....

I own bags from both but decided to stop buying Chanel bags last year so for me it’s Dior by a mile. Chanel keeps raising prices as it continues to decline in quality and I could not justify to myself continuing to pay luxury prices for inferior quality merchandise. Chanel has more variety in bag styles and resale value holds up better for some styles if resale is a consideration for you. But for quality (both in terms of workmanship, durability, and materials used), as well as customer service both at point of sale and post sale, Dior is infinitely better than Chanel. The declining quality of Chanel bags has been discussed thoroughly in the forums. This is not a recent phenomenon but the decline seems to have accelerated in the last few years. I feel at this point it’s like rolling the dice every time you purchase a new Chanel bag. Even if it looks okay after careful examination at the store before purchase, the bag could still have hidden defects that you only notice after using the bag. And Chanel has no in house after sale care at all. Dior will take a 10 year old bag and fix or refresh it for you. You may have to pay for the repair but at least they will handle the repair. I’ve used the Dior repair service twice and have been happy both times.
I agree with every. single. word!

Let me say I fell in love with and owned Chanel before I really got into Dior. But, the declines in C quality and lack of innovation (well good looking innovation - girl bag, Gabrielle - blech!) has made me run away.

Also, the brands are not just bags. Dior wins hands down on shoes. Chanel’s shoes couldn’t look more frumpy if they were orthotics. And, C’s clothing has only inched forward in style whereas Dior usually has some beautifully dreamy yet practical looks each season (less so with the new head designer but I digress).

So for handbags or overall collection, Dior wins by a landslide.

15 years ago I was a huge team Chanel player but as others have mentioned, quality was a concern to me. So my style migrated back to Dior (was a huge Dior team player 20 years ago...loved Galliano’s pieces) due to Maria Grazia Chiuri (amazing designer). Although I do have a few loved Chanel pieces I occasionally use, I find myself grabbing an Hermès, Dior or Gucci. Team Dior here!

In general, and talking only about bags, I am more Chanel. But currently, the quality at Dior is much better.
I haven’t bought a leather bag at either for a couple of years (but considering a second BT).
If I was pushed to choose I would choose vintage Chanel

Team Chanel - Not a fan of Maria Grazia Chiuri work and their influencer marketing campaigns puts me off. But love what Kim Jones is doing for the men’s collection.

I used to think Chanel was it for me. They were a true luxury brand, but as soon as I got my first I got over it. I then got drawn to Dior. Dior bag makes my heart sing more than the Chanel. I still love Chanel, but I’m more happy at the fact I got it at a previous price point given their huge price increases.

Not a fan of influencer campaigns from Dior.
Not a fan of Chanel huge price increases, the brand comes across to me as though they think they are the top brand and diff. to others (I.e. trying to stop Chanel bags being resold, etc). I can resell my house, car or jewelry. They used the tactic that websites were selling fake, etc., not saying they are not right, but to use this to stop resell is just wrong). I would have gone about it differently.
Like that Dior bags are not everywhere, whereas Chanel is more recognizable.
Hate the Dior resell value, but Chanel resell is over saturated
Chanel bags seem to be more similar styles and their clothing style does not appear to have been updated.
Chanel didn’t want to sell online - I think their reasons they previously provided were due to customer experience, fakes being sold online and that they are a luxury brand so don’t need to sell online. Again their attitude comes across as though we’re better than the rest. Also, if you’re going to sell only via retail then customer experience needs to be improved (my experience has only ever been rushed, nothing great or bad). Much nicer experience with Dior. I hate shopping, don’t care for the experience, but I know a lot of people do and from what I’ve read Chanel doesn’t have good customer experience.
When Covid hit, they started offering telephone orders, and allowing online orders via their new app to select customers. Again attitude is like well you need to be super wealthy and have spent $$$ previously to do telephone and online orders.

Team Dior I guess.

I have been on the fence far too long with Dior handbags. My first Dior purchase was costumer jewelry about 15 years ago at boutique in Las Vegas Ceaser's Palace. It was a magical experience. I have looked at the Dior handbags, tote and Lady Dior medium for 5 years! For some reason, I did not pull the trigger on Lady Dior. I've always admired the quality. I got stuck in the Chanel cyclone. Over the past 10 years, buying, using, selling, buying, using, selling, buying Chanel handbags, SLG's and shoes.
The quality of Chanel is good, but Chanel has become less desirable, aloof, like finding a four leaf clover. I finally found a great SA who offered me that rainbow metallic and I passed on it.

Meanwhile, I watch my beloved patent leather black with classic gold with red interior increase in price in 2019/2020.

Due to resale value, I decided I would buy second hand. I have not found my bag, and when I opted for lambskin over patent, the seller (FP) would document the bag had a smell, or I saw flat quilts or structural wear.

With so many fakes and the fact resale of Dior has increased to almost 2018/2019 prices for pristine or like new bags, I am back to the drawing board.

I visited Dior last week and realized a Lady Dior medium is the only classic for me. The saddle, and the newer styles don't wow me, nor do they fit my body frame.

What I like about Dior is some of these bags are truly works of art. The Brutal Journey of the Heart and Toile de Jouy printed calfskin are amazing bags. Dior is the only designer (compared to Hermes, Chanel, Celine..) that goes out on a limb with unique beading, prints, textures. Years ago Dior did a reggae designed saddle, so cute.

Recently, I have sold a few other bags. Unless my Chanel mini rectangle comes to fruition by year end, my next bag will be Lady Dior.

I am over the resale value as that scared me. Then I realized how much I wasted on reselling Chanel and other bags and the price keeps upticking.

In the big scheme of life, these designer items are overrated. I want a special bag to cherish for years and years to come and that will be my Dior.

I gravitate towards more iconic designs that are not easily replicated. So many fake Chanels out there that turns me off - One reason why I am not attracted to Chanel Classic Flaps. And the crazy Chanel prices further encourages market for fakes, IMHO. So... Team Dior for me in terms of design, quality and attention to detail (hardware, leather, lining, stiching), wearability and price per wear!5FD212E0-3DE7-4F65-898C-2E801EAAE630.jpeg

I haven’t bought a Dior bag in many years but @JavaJo post above is making me rethink that. I love Chanel RTW but the current price point is actually driving me to Verdura Belperron jewelry which is somewhat insane. I think it depends on your relationship with your SA as much as your fondness for the current season if you are buying new from the boutique. If you are buying reseller, buy what you love. I’m eyeing a python Chanel metallic and a stingray Chanel boy bag on resale bc Chanel no longer makes exotics or fur. But, for bags, I’m mainly an Hermes Bag fan. Not really familiar with the RTW as Galliano always seemed a bit outrageous. . .
