Hello LV friends!

I'm looking at buying a pre-loved bag from 1990. Which, after some mental gymnastics, I realized is 26 years ago. TWENTY SIX! How did that happen? Am I really this old? Lord. Anyway . . . :biggrin:

I'm just wondering . . . do any of you carry bags this old? It appears to be in great condition, but I have doctors and lawyers younger than this bag. Does LV really stand the test of time? Do you have bags that are 20+ years old that are still looking and performing great?

Tell me about your old ladies (and please share pics, if you like). :heart:

Yes. The bags that are well taken care of can remain in good condition for many many years. My most vintage piece is from 1993 and it looks brand new. The previous owner treated it like gold so it barely saw the light of day.

Overall, I think it's important to get bags repaired by Louis Vuitton when they need to be, and to keep up with other small maintenance (conditioning dry leather, polishing the hardware, etc). This will protect your bags, old and new, for years to come.

This is making me feel better. We talk about "passing bags down to our kids," but when it comes down to it, it's hard to imagine a bag lasting, literally, for decades! But you're right - the materials themselves are quite durable, and taking good care of things goes a long way.

What a sad reflection on our modern "things are disposable" mentality that I'm kind of in shock that a 26-year-old bag is still kicking! Why shouldn't it be, after all, when we pride ourselves on paying for quality and durability? :angel:

On the other side of the coin, there is this sort of myth that vintage bags last forever no matter what. But that's not true either. Anything needs proper care to last.

I have a vintage bag from the 90s that looks brand new. AND....they don't make them like that anymore. The canvas is thinner, the metal parts are not as strong now I love vintage. IMHO the new stuff can't compare and the company has gone downhill.
