Sweet vs Vintage Alhambra Necklace

Hi! I chose the sweet Alhambra in solid rose gold as my first (and only) VCA piece. I am petite, 5’3” and 120lbs and larger jewelry overwhelms me. I wanted a subtle, every day piece I wouldn’t have to worry about and I’m so happy with my choice. I think eventually I may go for a vintage size to layer or pair with my sweet, but I think if I were to choose a vintage size pendant, I would choose a stone rather than solid gold. The sweet size doesn’t flip, but the clasp is heavier at the back and tends to creep up to the front at times throughout the day. It doesn’t bother me though. Good luck with your choice!! Either way, you can’t really go wrong.
Great choice!! Only is they did sweet pendant in all yellow gold

I really believe the vintage piece is better in the long run. It’s something you will wear forever. You mention you never take off your diamond. You will definitely have to take off at night so they don’t tangle. Also keep in mind, the stones are fragile and could be damaged if exposed to water, lotions, hairspray or perfume. If you want to not worry about it, get it in solid gold. I have two 10 motifs in yellow gold. They are my go to pieces. I consider them “neutral“ jewelry because it goes with everything. I think the guilloché would be beautiful with a diamond. It sparkles like crazy.
I have the sweet in MOP and the pave vintage Alhambra. I would probably match the latter with diamond studs as the sweet is probably too similar in size or even smaller than your individual earrings which might look off proportionally. Furthermore, the pave VA would be a nice match for the diamond studs without being too matchy like say a simple diamond pendant.
I went in store today to figure out which size I preferred and once I saw the Vintage IRL there was no question for me. The vintage was actually smaller than I expected! but I love it either on its own or I have it here in the pic layered with a Carter Diamants Legers necklace. I love how much both chains sparkle! i Absolutely loved the vintage VCA and I really didn’t expect to. I thought it might be a bit too preppy for my style.
Thank you so much for your replies and feedback ladies! Truly appreciate it! I'm leaning towards the vintage now as I get older, the sweet might be a little too small .. lol

Also loving the idea of the guilloché as well now given it'll really match nicely with the diamond  Thanks so much again for the feedback and mod hot! Really appreciate it:hbeat:

Prefer Vintage on you. I was in the same dilemma as you and decided to bite the bullet and get Vintage. Never look back ever since.
Thank you, one day I want vintage the next I feel like sweet is more casual. But I do feel like if I get the sweet I might slightly regret it hehe.

I tried both and I am also trying to decide. The sweet looks so cute with my solitaire diamond but the vintage is also such a star. So hard…

I like the vintage size best, but I would shorten the diamond pendant and wear it above the clover. You can also have the vintage pendant lengthened a little if you want to wear the diamond at 16-16.5" and then have the clover at 17.5 or whatever.

The sweet is exceptionally cute on you but my vote goes to the vintage and agree that the diamond might look better above the vintage. I bought a Vintage with the intention of layering with my Cartier Legers diamond necklace but I actually never wear them together. I love the vintage Alhambra on its own.

I think in the beginning of my VCA collecting, I had the same dilemma as you OP, and I ended up going with a vintage size (guilloché) as my first pendant. Recently I've added two sweet necklaces (MOP and carnelian) and I have to say I often choose them over my vintage sizes and 10-motif just because they are way more casual (I have a very casual lifestyle). I think if this is going to be your "dressy" necklace, I would go with vintage, but if you want it as a daily piece, sweet is sooooo darn cute.

May I ask what size your diamond legers necklace is?

I wear my sweet (rose gold) daily and only took it off for one night for my wedding in October. Otherwise, I've worn it every day since September 2021 and adore it. I'd love to get a vintage stone piece one day, but I know it wouldn't be a daily necklace, so right now I can't justify the price point. I'd definitely vote sweet for daily casual wear but vintage if I were to get it in a stone.

My husband is also getting me my first pendant this year! After looking at mod shots, etc., I decided that I prefer the vintage size. Sweet is cute, but its just a little too small for me (and I'm on the petite side). Personally, I'm going with yellow gold. Most of my jewelry is yellow gold and it just works better with my skin tone.

That is so beautiful together. Mine is coming soon. I may just decide to keep after seeing this xD
