How much of a problem are the straps and "breakaway" zipper on this bag? I love the 27 but there are so many reviews on the Coach website saying that the zipper is hard to use and that the straps often randomly fall off the bag if they aren't attached perfectly. The sale is almost too good to pass up but the issues with the strap sound like they could be embarrassing! :p
I honestly prefer a breakaway zipper, but my swagger doesn't have one so I can't say why it might be a problem for some on the this bag. A lot of people just dislike a breakaway zipper in general.

I can't understand a strap just randomly falling off unless it broke. It's a clip, it's either clipped onto the metal loop or it's not. If the spring gate is broken where it doesn't close (and stay closed), then you would have a problem. But, just randomly falling off without a broken clip, I can't see it. I've not been able to create a problem where the clip just hangs up halfway on the loop and the strap falls off. When you clip on the strap, just make sure it's on there correctly and the spring gate is closed and there should be no problem.

This is my fourth 27 (sold all the others and only have this one now) and I not once had the strap falling off problem that I've read about in reviews and on here. I mainly carry by the top handles and rarely use the strap so maybe that's why? I don't understand how it could become unclipped, but it must be an issue otherwise people wouldn't be bringing it up. I just find it weird that I never see this complaint with the larger Swagger even though it has the same strap clips!

As for the breakaway zipper, it's not my favorite kind of zipper, but I find it to be just as cumbersome (for different reasons) as the longer, regular zipper that's on some of the other Swagger styles. It took me a little getting used to, but I don't even think about it anymore.

If you like the bag, get it. Carry it around your house for a few days before you cut the tags to see how the strap and zipper will work for you. 30% off is a great deal for this bag, especially since normal PCE is usually only 25% for this price point. Keep us posted!

The strap problem happens when the clip gets flipped underneath the metal loop on the bag. Then the clip unsnaps when you lift the strap back up and it clicks against the loop.

If you check when you lift up your bag that the clips are upright, this doesn't happen. The strap detaching has only happened to me once because after I figured out how it happened, I was more careful when picking up the strap. As an extra precaution, I recently added another ring attachment to my bag so the clips wouldn't press against the loops and I wouldn't have to check them every time.

Thank you so much for the replies. I bought the 27! My main fear was that the strap issue was just a random and un-fixable design flaw and I'm relieved to know this isn't the case. It's such a gorgeous bag and with the 30% discount I couldn't think of a reason not to buy it. Can't wait! :)

Yay, I'm glad you went for it! Which color did you get? You'll have to post pics!!!

Congrats! The Swagger 27 is a great bag. I'd love to see pics and hear what you think of it when it arrives!

Hey guys I've had my swagger since October of 2014 and I keep on having this recurring problem where the cross body strap sometimes detached itself when I lift the bag up. And then the clasp from the strap always ends up hitting me in the face and it's actually quite painful (and embarrassing). Does anyone else have a problem with this?

Yes, this is a known issue with the strap on the Swagger. Please see my post above for tips to prevent this!

Oh wow thank you so much! I've honestly been avoiding carrying this bag bc I couldn't figure out a solution. I contacted Coach about it and they were just like ‍♀️
Hahaha oh no! It sucks that they weren't very helpful. I can't believe they haven't done anything to fix this design flaw, since the Swagger has been available for years now and many people have complained about it.

I solved this problem by changing out the strap. I use the strap from my black willow floral nomad. It has a different type of clasp than the dog leash one that comes with the swagger. I haven't had any issues with it since I did that. The strap is black, but it does have the oxblood edge paint so I feel it still matches my oxblood swagger. IMG_1495064856.090063.jpg

Wait...I take back what I said! It's actually the opposite of what I did! The swagger had the clasp I showed in the picture and I changed it out for my Nomad strap that actually has the dog leash clips. That makes more sense since dog leash clips are more secure. Sorry, I was a little confused about what I did since I haven't carried my Swagger in a couple weeks and I found the wrong picture to post!

I think this is odd too! I contacted coach about the issue a few months ago but they just pretended there wasn't an issue. I was a bit disappointed and it put me off buying one quite a bit!
