Your stone sounds beautiful! You and your BF bought a lovely stone and did it without putting yourself in HUGE debt! That's fantastic! More couples should be so savvy.

If I were you, I'd do some research on tension settings (if you haven't already). I'd personally be a little leary of a tension setting anyway, but with a thin girdled stone, I would think that a tension setting might make the exposed sides of the stone very vulnerable. I'd feel better with a 4 or 6 prong setting, or even a bezel setting. When DF and I were diamond shopping, we talked to a ton of jewelers, and of course, every one had a strong opinion about something. For every jeweler you talk to, you can add another opinion to your list. When we first started talking about getting engaged, I was convinced that I wanted a princess cut diamond, with round stones on the shoulders of the band, and a matching round eternity band. Then I went to try on rings. Long story short, I ended up with a very classic emerald cut solitaire. Turns out, it's absolutely perfect. EC stones sparkle differently than round brilliants, but I love the simple elegance and the clean lines. It's all about what makes YOU happy.

Of course, spending this amount of money and buying something so special takes a lot of research and consideration. But if you love your diamond, are in love with the way it sparkles, and with the man who gave it to you, you've made a perfect purchase. Wear it in the best of health! And congratulations on your upcoming engagement!!!

It's beautiful, I love tension settings as I don't like prongs very much. I have a tension set ring, only half carat, I wear every day (not an e ring) for at least the past 10 years. I do the washing up, gardening etc and it's still as good as new, it's secure in the setting and I really wouldn't worry. Enjoy your fabulous ring and don't forget to post pics when you get it. :)

A lot of labs have been proven to be too loose in their grading. Unfortunately.
GIA and AGS are the most accurate/trustworthy.
IGI and others are sometimes a few grades off on clarity, color, etc. . . it's really sad.
My math skills are too stinky to derive those percentages myself!

It usualy is the less quantifiable things that get a bit 'elasticated'. But after grading 15 years, and comparing hundreds of diamonds, having them re-certed at different labs and comparing the two certs and my own grades, they are never too far off to cause a massive problem.Just a + or - on the color.
It does happen though that if someone like Chopard wants a big and important strone grading that they will send it to what they consider the most consistent lab.

Glad your math is poo,so is mine!!! I did used to be able to work that out in my head along with price per carat,on any given size, cut, color and clarity of stone you shoved in front of me,as I used to do valuations for insurance too!! Not too sorry I let that slide!!
But once Sophie is in Nursery and I start choosing who to work for,I'll wish I kept it up!! ouch!!!

Oh my thats so lovely that I thought everyone that comes on this page should see it too!!! That is gorgeous!!!

omg i just fell in love and since i am not planning on getting married ever i will have to find some other occasion to get my hands on a similar beauty !

This is truly one of the most beautiful rings i have ever seen, i love your taste.

For a round brilliant I think you made very smart choices to maximize your budget. You didn't compromise on cut (which is the single most important factor for sparkle) and SI1 is all you really need with a round b/c it sparkles so much (that you wont see anything (unlike a square cut stone which allows you to look right in).

Congratulations!!! Don't fret. Your ring will be lovely. Don't forget to post a picture (if you haven't already).

Hi, I think you did well.....and doubly so if Chaz says so!!!!

One thing I want to say about cut is that there is more than one level of great cut. After a certain point of `good/ great` the extra cant be seen that much to be able to make a huge difference. So its not as if it has to be a perfect cut or a dog....there is much in the middle. And I personally see no point in paying extra for cut that cant be seen by the ave. person and having a tiny diamond that can be seen by the ave person!!!!!

Setting has a huge impact on the look and I love your setting!!!!

Thanks everyone! I wanted to post a link to where the ring is coming from because if you like the ring, you will die for the rest of their stuff. This place specializes in silver and has the most AMAZING jewellery. The e-ring is not silver, but it is their signature setting.

Totally agree and I think that $ was a steal for an ideal cut with E color at that size. I would have thought it should have been a minimum of $5,000.:okay:

Cut is most important to most people who shop around a lot before purchasing because cut ultimately affects the amount of fire/sparkle and scintillation you'll get from your stone.
The reason RisingSun mentioned crown & pavillion angles is because there's a nifty online calculator that is completely unbiased, if you enter in certain measurement, it will tell you if the cut is proprotioned or not which equals the amount of light passing through/reflecting = fire.
You need to trust your eyes really:yes:
The clarity is fine SI1 should allow you a fair price on a stone that appears completely eye clean although the color is so high that you might have been charged a premium for that.
Thanks, Swanky, my very reason for asking the question. Also, when having a diamond set in a tension setting, the girdle stats will be of importance. As always, Chaz' expertise in the jewelry business, is much appreciated:yes:
