I'm on a self imposed LV break. My head was spinning. I agree with you.

I think LV's decision to introduce many styles each season and discontinue styles (some of us feel should be considered classic), works for many customers. I'm sure LV did marketing studies, but this method of sales just doesn't work for me- especially when they're churning out things I can't relate to because of the utilitarian style, colors that are for the very young, and textile designs.

I like each luxury brand to have their signature bags, with a couple of trend bags each season. But, that marketing model doesn't make the big bucks. More temporary (seasonal) bag choices create more hype, thus more money.

My feelings towards LV right now reminds me of cable television. While growing up, I had four channels- ABC, NBC, CBS and PBS. They went off the air at 1,00am showing only a test pattern, and came back on at 6,00am with children's shows before school. Now we have two hundred channels available 24/7. Too many for me, I watch maybe seven different channels sporadically, only three most of the time. Some people like the variety, and those viewers enjoy the exclusive network shows they churn out.

I like simplicity; some find that boring. Oh well. I'll just sit here and live vicariously through the people who are excited each season. I like seeing the purchases and I'm happy for them when they find their dream bags.

I don't mind seasonal pieces. I have my favourites, of course. But I find them interesting, sometimes exciting, often divisive (as evidenced here in the thread). But it shows here that you have more than one team designing a collection each. It feels really disjointed. With Chanel, you definitely get "Chanel". There's very little disconnect with seasonal collections. I've only seen one seasonal release that I could not tell was Chanel if not for the CCs dotted throughout (it was the one with the cat print). But slapping the LV monogram onto a bag doesn't mean it'll work. I live in a part of the world where I see as many fakes as I do originals. It used to be that it was really easy to tell which bags were fake and which weren't, even from a distance. Today, it's getting harder to tell. That saddens me a little.

I'm still looking forward to Nicolas' work. It's different and definitely its own DNA. You can't say the same for Maria Grazia's Dior debut and her former design partner Pierpaolo's solo outing at Valentino. I can't blame Nicolas entirely for the bag designs as he's not involved in bag design and production. But maybe that's where the disconnect comes from? :hrmm:
