Thanks so much for all the response. I will use it on my Cabas Piano's bottom vachetta. I feel some protection is needed:idea: Plus, I really wan to slow down the aging process. I like my bag stay new.

Thanks,
Jane

Since you bought it, you might as well give it a shot. I have used Wilson's for many years without problems, so I have never had a reason to try anything new. I also think LV has been treating their leather in some way because I notice it seems to take longer to darken and it does seem to repel water somewhat.

I used SM on my MJ and it works great! So I just sprayed some on my new LV with no discoloration.

With my MJ, the first time I used it, it started to rain out of nowhere and when I rain drop hit, it left a dark wet spot! I freaked out and was afraid it would not go away.

Then I got SM and sprayed to 2x. The next time it rained I was quite amazed. There were no rain drop spots! The rain just turned into beads and rolled off. If you have ever used RAINX for your windshields that is the same effect.

Since then I have used SM on all my bags

You were questioned by me because you shared IPs with three other members, one of which was a ghost nick. We do not allow multiple nicks per registered user.

Geez Vlad......Do you do detective work on the IP addresses of all boardies, or just certain ones. Betsy, Chihuahuaqueen and myself all work at the same place and I've had both of them at my house on occasion to check the board on my home computer. Hence the IP addresses.

As for the other ID, that was an old one of mine that I no longer use, but I'm sure you already knew that.

I bought 2 cans after the rave reviews here. After I received them I saw the SM controversary and while I feel the SM owner did not act ethically (by not disclosing her affiliation with SM) I think that enough non-biased people felt it was good so figured I would try it.

I plan to spray all my leather bags and my leather seats in my SUV. So far I've used it on my MJ and haven't had any problems, but haven't gotten a chance to see if it works cuz it hasn't been rained on. Tonight I sprayed my LV Wapity.

I'd prefer to protect my bags as much as I can. I know I won't treat them perfectly so they need extra protection from me :D

HTH!

I've never sprayed my bags in the past but since getting a white bag, I recently tried Vectra. I read about it here and many seem to like it. It dries fast and has no smell at all. I was afraid it would mask the leather smell of my bag but it didnt. I hope it works though... I've tried Appleguard too and it works great specially on leathers that have sort of dried up.

Tod, my Chanel SA actually recommended Vectra spray. I havent tried vectra yet, but was impressed they even mentioned it. They always discourage using any product on their leather.

I agree completely.

When the SM product first popped up in the PF I immediately asked my SA about it and she adviced me NOT to use ANYTHING on my LV's. Why? Well she told me that there have been cases where initially nothing goes wrong;however, through the years the product wears through the product.

IMO, that could be due to a number of things; however, it's my preference NOT to take that risk.

Just my $.02

SA's will never recommend you spray anything on your bags:

a. because they are covering their own backsides - they know they will get all and sundry spraying all kinds of crap over their bags.

b. they want your naked leather to darken so you buy a new bag - the longer the leather stays light, the longer it will take you to think about replacing your bag.

if you want a bag without ugly rain/water spots then spray something on it, otherwise leave it naked but don't go out in the rain/anywhere near water.

I've never sprayed anything on my bags and I live in a rainy area. My bags look great.

As for the "darkened" leather....LOTS of ladies prefer that. I know plenty of people who deliberately "tan" their bags before they even use them. The SAs are very well aware of this phenomenon.

I have had my MC Trouville rained on, but the waterspots aren't that bad. You can only see them upon close inspection. It doesn't bother me too much, but I can see why it would bother someone else :noworry:

^^^actually. . . I have taken my Batignolles out in the sprinkles. . . it showed up and then went away.
Then, true story, my DD spilled her ENTIRE cup of lemonade on/in this same LV!!!
I FLIPPED out, we were at the car dealership waiting on an oil change and people were looking at me like I had lost my mind! The Batig was only about 2 weeks old so I was freaking for good reason!
I swabbed the ENTIRE bag w/ a baby wipe, including the naked vachetta straps and it's still in pristine condition.
I SWEAR! I'm willing to post photos!

Wow I would have had a heart attack!

My understanding is that the batignolles have leather that has been treated. (I think it's mentioned in the care booklet) To tan or not to tan is personal preference. When I first started collecting LV, I only used AG. I found it difficult to spray evenly and almost always had some overspray that caused me lots of stress waiting for it to dry evenly. I had mixed results and in fact, ruined the strap of a new bag and had to replace it because of permanent dark spots :(

I switched to Wilsons and it's pretty much goof proof. It dries almost instantly and evenly. I also have tried SM and it's also easy to use, dries very quickly and has not left any dark spots on my bags. It also did not darken my naked vachetta at all. (I also have used SM on my convertible top and it works great!)

To spray or not to spray will always be debated. I personally can't live with untreated leather as it is very susceptible to water spots and dirt.
