Spend threshold for B/K/C

not sure how well you know that person that got a QB after 5k of houseware spending? Perhaps they are a long term client that’s already spent $100k+ at Hermes, perhaps they have had previous purchases in RTW, fine jewelry and other desirable categories. 5k in houseware is valued more than silks, belts, leather goods, shoes etc. 5k is not apples to apples when SM are looking to approve a bag offer.

In my experience, post pandemic, long term clients are spending 20k+ to obtain highly sought out bags/colors. It is the new norm. Inventory is low, people aren’t traveling, and so everyone is spending a lot of $$ to get an offer. Why would H not maximize this scenario? Why give a highly sought out bag that they have low supply of, for only a $10k spend when others have been spending 20k? I think the 1:1 spending days are gone for now.

Of course exceptions to the rule but those are rare and far between not the norm anymore.

The person that got the QB at 0.7:1 started their journey a bit after me, and is also a first time client with no prior spending history, but I think it was the category that resulted in the low ratio like you said.

I think because I'm new to the H way of shopping, I just want to make sure I'm establishing a working relationship that will be fruitful for all parties involved, and am now at a point where I feel like I've demonstrated loyalty as a client, and need to see proof of this fruitfulness before I continue further. I view shopping as a hobby of sorts and have multiple bags on my wishlist, so I'm not one of those get a QB and peace out kind of person, maybe I need to convey that better to my current SA so that she doesn't think I'm going to stop shopping as soon as she offers me a bag.

I asked, she said they don't have stock, but I know somebody at the same store just got offered a QB in a coveted color at 0.7:1

Actually it is not easy to determine the reason because it depends how your store works.

One of the reason could be that your SA has bigger clients than you to satisfy with the same bags that you wanted and she can’t be allocated enough similar bags to satisfy all her clients at once. That someone else might be a big client to her SA in the same store. Another reason could be her SA has faster fingers to reserve the bag for her and get SM approval, etc. Yet another reason could be that the client had a bad experience and the SA managed to get the SM to approve for her this coverted bag to appease her in order to retain her as client.

101 possibilities. I think at this climate, try not to compare pre-spend as long as it is within a reasonable range for you. Otherwise, it really adds on to the frustration for yourself.

Switch SAs, if I switch stores I would have to go remote, which is not ideal.

My home store is tiny, you can literally browse through the entire store in <10min, not in cali or NYC.

I buy what I like or will use (i.e. if I want a new belt, I get it at H instead of some other brand), and I feel like I have a good rapport with my SA, but I also want a working relationship that is productive. I want to work with her long term, but I need to see that she is able to procure wishlist items after a certain amount of time and shopping has occurred.

XD true. My city is noncompetitive in the sense that the concentration of movie stars and old money is not as high as NYC or cali, and is not a hub for asians.

Spend breakdown is 10% equestrian, 30% belts, 30% stoles/mufflers, 30% silks.

I gave my wishlist during my first visit. When I hit 0.6/0.7 my SA bought it up first and said she was gonna try to get me a bag before the end of the year, I hadn't mentioned it before that. After a couple of months passed I asked how that was going, and she said soon, probably in the next month...then nothing. She told me they just have no stock, which being such a small store and at holiday time, I was disappointed but can understand. Now I'm at 1:1...and the answer is some time this year.

No I'm not at Madison, if I was in NYC I would totally understand that 1:1 is not likely, but somebody at my store just got an offer in a coveted color with 0.7:1 (5k in homeware).
I am in NY and its my experience that it’s easier to get if your spend is in home ware and RTW or watches. i happen to like homeware ans RTW, and I buy what I like. While I don’t really pay attention to prespend, it is probably 3x1. I do get offers though, and as @Justlikewhatilike recommends, I try not to compare my offers or purchases with others.
I also don’t have a wish list; my SA knows what I like. I’ve never felt the need to have a calculated conversation with him. It’s more organic than that.

3:1 is too much! I would not spoil my SA like that! Lol….

I feel the same way. My prespend is 3:1 in mostly rtw with some home goods and fine jewelry. I like rtw and compared to Chanel the prices are much better!! I think the key with Hermes is that you have to enjoy the journey and not work so hard to keep track of prespend.

Agree :) I bought three H dresses for less than the price of one chanel . of course, we are all extrmely fortunate to have this issue.
forgot to ask, did you decide to continue long distance with your old chanel SA or stay local? Hugs

my Chanel sa is on maternity leave. I don’t need a new Chanel sa under any circumstances. Lol. I am finally getting over my Chanel addiction. Now it has been replaced by a Hermes addiction  this is actually good because my husband is a much bigger Hermes addict than I am. So now I mostly help him pick out Hermes men’s rtw

This. I wonder what is the good way to bring out this conversation with the SA to build the relationship than being sounded like a desperate looking for a bag.

Maybe recruiting your husband or SO would be a good idea. My husband always jokes around with my SA and says things like “she says she wants one then next thing you know she wants to collect every color of the rainbow.”

Haha this is a good idea. Believe it or not my SA actually loves my DH more than me too. Whenever im at the store without him, my SA would ask where he is.

It was to @lala_retro specific post where she has spent 1:1 and looking to switch SA/stores. Prior to switching SA/stores and if you aren’t willing to spend more or be more patient with your time, and continue to buy what you love, my advice was to have a conversation with your SA before jumping ship. Many people are just trying to buy whatever so they can get there 1 QB and move on. People that love the journey and the brand buy what they love, are very Patient with the attitude of the “bag comes when it comes.” But everyone doesn’t have the same end goal, journey, desires.

This is what I find so off-putting about the whole concept of "the journey." A quick browse on Fashionphile will show you page after page of virtually brand-new high-end jewelry that people most assuredly bought in their quest for a QB and then turned around and flipped it to a reseller.
