Speedy B Damier Ebene Quality Issues?

Hi everyone! Thanks for your input. I did go to the boutique and consulted the manager about it. They offered me a brand new bag on the spot. Said they've never encountered this "bubbling" on the straps before and were very concerned. I got the same bag, as it's really what has taken my heart at the moment. Finally able to enjoy it without worrying about those bubbles - but yes, the tarnish on the hardware has already begun without even a week of use! I asked some YouTubers who have the same bag and they did say theirs are tarnishing too. Oh well...

That's great! So happy for you hun; glad the manager took care of you!
Enjoy your new Speedy B

The gold hardware LV uses is just plain terrible and the Speedy, it's really bad so yeah, it will be an ongoing issue I'm afraid. When the gold color wears off and shows silver, you can't polish it back to gold :/

I see... that's disappointing. Really surprised that LV hasn't done anything to improve it. I have Coccinelle bags that have fabulous hardware for a fraction of the cost of my Speedy B so I don't suppose it will cost LV much to release models with improved hardware quality...

Oh well, I really love it though so I've stopped checking the hardware now. Will just enjoy it despite the flaws!

I'm curious since the gold hardware seems to have issues...anyone know if true with gold hardware on Alma? Monogram or Damier Ebene.

I don't know about the Alma; it may or may not occur. Personally, I have yet to experience any of my HW turning silver.

I have seen a couple of YT'ers talking about this issue involving the hw on the mini pochette, and the strap of the Pochette Metis. Carol Summer, made a video about the strap, and Lee Lee MLV uploaded a video a week ago, about her mini pochette.

If you are considering this bag, and decide to purchase, or you already own...maybe, it won't be an issue for you. If it should happen, hopefully you wouldn't encounter a problem with exchanging for a new Alma, or getting a different item, etc.

Thanks so much for your reply. Actually I'm considering purchasing my first LV and so want to make sure I make the best choice and most informed decision.

Not sure if this will help anybody but here is what my Speedy B 30 looks like after many years of use. Not sure about the longevity of the bag as the red is peeking through the rubbed off checkers on the canvas already.View attachment 3762797 View attachment 3762799 View attachment 3762796

Thanks, for sharing! Still is beautiful, but has been well loved!
The Speedy B was released in 2011, right?

Wear and tear is to be expected eventually, but not days to one year after purchasing...
I am a bit shocked at how fast the HW is tarnishing, and/or turning silver now. Oh well...

Thank you wow you must've really love that bag. So how many years as many years? The hardware doesn't look that bad to me if you've had it for like 10 -20
years.

Thanks! Its the bag I use the most often as the DE goes well with any outfit (formal or casual). I am quite sad about the hardware coating coming off as wear and tear though but this hasn't stopped me from using the bag. The padlock I believe is brass as I usually attach this to the side where the strap hardware goes, it hasn't discoloured or had any coating rubbed off.
I had been holding out from purchasing the Speedy when I heard that they were planning the future release of Speedy B. I purchased this back in 2012 not long after it was released in Australia. The date code indicates that its made in france and manufacturing date was 2012 as well. Since then, I think they may have done some modifications to the Speedy B, did they end up removing the middle groove on the side D rings on the exterior of the bag where the hardware of the adjustable strap sits?

Ok...yeah, I thought it was 2011 or 12, when it released. I know what you mean, about the strap. Initially, I wasn't a fan of the bandouliere version, when I got the original Speedy, but having options is definitely much better, than top handle only. You made the right choice!lol

As for the middle groove...I'm sorry, i'm not sure, but I think LV did make some modifications.

With the hardware, you can have all the coated brass hardware replaced (D rings, square rings, bolts, zip pullers) at a cost but as they are coated, it will tarnish eventually. This does not mean they will replace the zipper, top handles and straps with new ones though. As my main concern was the canvas itself which can't be repaired, there was no point in getting all brass hardware replaced.
Hopefully my Speedy B will continue to hold up for many more years to come. I love this bag so much that when it gives up on me, I might actually consider getting the same bag in the future. : D
