Oh ~ I see :p If you want to keep the patina light, keep it out of the sun (that includes when it's in your car) and store it in the dust bag when not in use. This will help to keep it light, but I have heard the patina will develop ever so slowly even if you keep it stored in the dust bag away from light. As far as how long, I'm really not sure. I never really paid attention to that aspect of it.

Thx for the info! It actually helps a lot....and I guess if the handles get too dark for my liking, I can always have them replaced as well. By chance, do you know if they'll change out the piping and leather tabs?

So Ayla, could I have done it damage I don't even realize yet, like it got wet and then after months of wear the stains will show up on the oxidized handles? I don't think I got it too wet, just a little drizzle. Thx for all your help!

I've never had the piping changed, but I have had the handles and the four chapes (those tabs that the handles are attached to). I don't think the patina is what makes handles look bad, it's the dirt! I'm so picky about touching my handles. Another idea is to tie a scarf around the handles and hold that part when you carry your bag.

Hmmm, interesting. I don't even know what that kind of Speedy would look like. Do you have any pics by chance?

I guess it would be hard to change out the piping considering it's an integral part of the bag. I guess the most important part would be the handles anyway.
