Speedy 30 in rain/snow?

Actually it's funny reading all your posts about not using Speedy in the rain; I do the exact opposite I consider it my "bad weather bag",
when it rains I put away whatever leather bag I'm using and take out my Speedy. The only Vacchetta is on the handles and I've noticed no stains at all. By the way it's pretty new aswell so there's not much patina yet...:D

I love my speedy to bits and all but i take mine out in the rain and snow. It rains quite often here in the UK and i was very cautious the first few times i used it and wouldnt let a drop get on it but to be honest once it got wet once then it getting wet everytime it rains wont do anymore harm. I had mine out in the rain today, the rain dries and you cannot see it yet but once the patina starts to develop it'll blend in hopefully and if not then its not the end of the world.
Funny though how before i got my bag i shouted at my mum for using her keepall in the rain and letting it get wet...

I took my brand new Speedy out this w/e in the rain and it was fine. I think of it as a bag I can get wet bc it isn't soft plush leather, it is coated leather. JMO.

Do you have a monogrammed canvas speedy ? The monogrammed part is coated canvas, and the leather bits are the side trim and the tabs, they are untreated vachetta.

Yes, that's the bag I have....what is "vachetta"? Sorry, I am new to LV! Is that the material of the handles?

As others have said, the canvas is fine to get wet, but it's the handles, tabs that really don't do well with *weather*. You can treat the vachetta with something like Apple Garde and people say it's fine then, but I still don't bring my vachetta out when it rains!

Maybe you should wait and get a damier speedy? Seems like a good choice for you.

I've been thinking about this a lot in the past few days, and I think it would definately be a better choice. As much as I love the Mono and have been dreaming about it for the past few weeks, I think it would be the kind of purchase that I would be kicking myself for in the future. Does anyone know anything about the price difference between a mono 30 and a damier 30?

Untreated leather, that's why it gains colour as it ages since it hasn't been tanned or the such.

what would happen to it if it got wet? just curious .. i have a pouchette that I have used since 2001 .. the patina is like really dark now but that is about it :S nothing serious ... dont remember if i actually took it out in the rain though .. what might happen?

If it were to get wet and already has a dark patina in place, nothing much really. It's really lighter patinas that are cause for worry, since the water could stain the untreated leather and leave a mark.

Speedys have piqued my interest now with all this talk about them. Since I live in AZ, I don't foresee there being a lot of rain here :) but still, how long does it take the handles to darken should you use your bag every day for several months?

If you want the patina to develop, you don't necessarily have to use the bag a lot. You can suntan your baby! Leave it in direct (outside) or indirect (on a window sill) and it will tan.

Well I guess my question is I don't want the patina to develop so I was wondering if I ever bought a Speedy, how long it would take before it developed naturally?
