Speedy 25 in Mono or Damier Ebene ?

my speedy b mono has patina'd to a light golden color and at this point it handles weather quite well. at first, vachetta is vulnerable to water spots, but as it ages, it handles the weather much much better. i don't disagree that the damier ebene is totally carefree, but for me, the mono/vachetta just looks so much better. if it does start to rain, i can always detach the strap and put it inside so at least that part is out of the weather. it really comes down to personal preference and the climate you live in. i own both mono and de bags but i just use the mono ones consistently much more. best of luck with your decision : )
What to do!!? I love the Mono but being wary of my dogs noses, handcream, alcohol gel, water and everything else along with wiping the vachetta over every night etc and even stopping to take straps off if it rains is not quite what I was hoping for but, I could just use it, and see what happens! Or exchange for a DE and have an easy life. It's a bag I want to be able to use every day without worrying but..
I absolutely agree with you, the Mono does look rather fabulous and, for me the DE is not quite so stunning - hence my dilemma! HELP
well give yourself a day or so to think it over. i will say that with respect to hand sanitizer and lotions, i am very careful with my ebene bags because over the years i have always read that those chemicals can pose issues for the coated leather . at the end of the day, i like to enjoy my bags. i have learned not to get too stressed over the vachetta because over time most spots do blend in as you use the bags. i remember watching a youtube video by louis vuitton coffee lver and she spoke of her mono speedy and how the vachetta mellowed in time. for some , though, they tend to stress over it so do what is best for your lifestyle so that you can enjoy your bag : )
So, I gave it some thought and decided to send the Monogram back. And... look who arrived today! She feels completely different to the Mono and although not as pretty as the Mono is perhaps more discreet and as I live in France that is a very good thing! I am loving the red lining!
Lol no way! Has your dog's wet nose darkened your vachetta? Never thought about that to that detail haha.
I personally have the Speedy B DE 25, too scared of watermarks with the monogram! However, I also bought myself a year 2008 Classic Monogram Speedy 25 and used twillys to tie the handles, that way i get my Monogram speedy fix with less vachetta. The 2008 canvas quality is ammazzzing! So that's something you can consider if you are a fan of speedies but want a monogram speedy in your life.
I couldn't let me dogs anywhere near it incase their noses caused spotting so the bag stayed in its box, well that told me everything! my dogs mean everything to me so I now have a DE instead and I'm not scared to let the dogs near it. Hurrah!

Thank you! She really is soooo different from the Mono, and she feels more plastic somehow, but so much easier and carefree. I'd heard that bags have date stamps but I've looked everywhere and can't find anything - the Mono had one hiding under the inside zippy pocket. Do other people's bags have them?

I am soooo glad I exchanged the Mono for the DE, such a classic look and pretty much carefree, what more can a girl want!My next bag will be Speedy B 25 DE also. I already have a bag in monogram and am afraid to use it. Hopefully I can get it before price goes up again

I have the 30b in DE and love it. Have had it for 8 years and have only needed the zipper replaced by LV. I love how the DE made it a fuss free bag. I use the straps and it takes time getting used to but I don’t really put heavy items in it aside from maybe a water bottle and umbrella being the heaviest.
How is the canvas wearing for you? I purchased my DE 30 Speedy B about 3 months ago and the canvas corners are already starting to wear off and turn black. I don't baby my bag but I didn't think I was abusing it either. I got the DE assuming it was more durable. I knew it could happen but I didn't think it would happen so quickly. It's not noticeable yet to anyone but me. But I also know it's going to get worse as it ages. I want to purchase a 25 Speedy B and was thinking of the DE again but now I am not sure. So I was just wondering what your experience has been.
i posted some photos a while back on the condition on my speedy 30b around 3 years ago here, not sure if this link works if you copy and paste? Generally it’s held up well as I don’t exactly baby it but I don’t put it on the ground. It is more of an everyday bag for me, not an occasion bag.
I’m not sure what the black corners are on yours, mine is the red canvas as it’s heavily used. I wouldn’t say the red canvas peeking is a quality issue tho because i wear it as a shoulder and crossbody bag. My bag hadn’t changed that much since those photos although I’ve used it a lot over the years.
