wow! that is a relief... But, the probability of getting it is scary. hmmm... maybe i should inquire sooner than later. is there a certain time of year that SOs are taken or just whenever and do I need to leave a deposit at the time the order is placed? Again, thank you ladies for your info. The Forum has been invaluable and as a Hermes newbie, I would hate to walk into a boutique asking 20 questions about pricing.. I would die of embaressment :sweatdrop:

I was told at FSH that it will just be the current price for that particular size and skin at the time that it's ready. Time frame 6-12 months, but no promises.

They don't take deposits. The tricky bit is to get your order accepted if you aren't a "prized" customer. Depending on where you shop, even getting a PO might not be as straightforward as walking into the nearest boutique. You might have to brace yourself for the expensive "progression" to SO status. If you're lucky enough to be somewhere without a heavy concentration of H devotees with deep pockets, it will be easier. It's all relative - for instance, going to Paris might the easier/ nicer alternative for some Asians due to the stiff competition and "Birkin politics" out here :p

Good luck!!

baggrl, I just re-read my post above and realised that I might have offended you by inadvertently implying that you aren't important to your store. If so, please accept my sincere apologies because that was not my intention!

To clarify, I was just sharing my own experience as a non-VIP - I don't spend enough at my home store to qualify for SOs (understandably, they reserve their tiny quota for their top customers). In Paris, it's quite different because they have a bigger quota and are more open to SO requests.

Again, sorry if it came across badly. Note to self: choose words more carefully in future :noggin:

I think it might also depend on the SA you deal with in Paris. My SA offered me an SO Birkin with contrast lining on Christmas Eve and told me to think about the combination I wanted. When I returned a couple of weeks later and wanted to place my order, she gave me the usual spiel about how difficult it would be and sounded so unwilling that I let the matter drop. I was pretty miffed, but what could I do? Just as well I wasn't really interested in any more leather Birkins; otherwise, I would have been terribly crushed.

My understanding is that most H stores don't ask for a deposit when placing a SO but there are actually some stores that are asking for it.

Interesting. Once I get my new purchases in the mail, I'll have to ask my SA about special orders and pricing. I assume that it's easier to get to make a SO once you've already purchased a couple bags, but I would die for one of the lovely etoupe Birkins w/contrast lining that I've seen the last couple days here. It just pops so wonderfully! You would think that they wouldn't do deposits if you have to wait for forever to get the bag, plus if it's not too wild I'm sure they could sell it if for some reason you decided not to buy it once it came.

where i am and whre i buy one has to be a client to be offered so´s usually it is after beeing offered podium orders that arfe already above "waitlist" kwim?of course h words it differently

VanillaSkye, no offense taken at all. I totally get what you are saying and agree. There is so much politics involved with getting high-end bags. I'm too impatient to wait quite that long anyway for my first birkin. Maybe for the 2nd though... Thanks for the info.;)

As far as timing for SOs..mine came in less than a year and a half...

Yet I know of folks who placed an SO at the same time in the same store, and still have not gotten their bag yet...

IMHO, a year and a half is not a bad wait...

Relationships are key to SOs more than anything I think.

I have a decent buying history, but it's how you approach your SA about it that matters most I think.

When I placed the SO she said it would make no difference yet she is now saying something different, she is going to try and find out how much it will be but thinks it will be at least £300 more than a regular bag.......
Maybe it's becouse the prices are going higher so she was just talking of a price increase?:confused1:

I'm sorry to hear that, Roxane - what a bizarre way to treat a customer, especially when she offered it without you even asking in the first place. :confused1:
