I have an etain Evelyne III 33 (GM) and am giving more thought to how to pair this with clothes, more than my black, dark brown and etoupe Evelynes.

The easiest pairing is non-brown neutrals like white, cream and stone. I also thought blue and black would be easy but the etain bag does not go as well as I like, or at least not blue with any hint of brightness.

Any tips on pairing etain bags for men?

Boy, I love how this bag looks, feels and works! It’s so practical for a guy and the size is perfect as a day or travel bag. Size wise, I’ll say its in-between the two Kelly messengers’ sizes and it definitely can fit alot! I was even able to put in a 700ml bottle of water in Italy! I am also surprised by how smooth the zip is! Its way more smoother to pull this zip than the interior zips on other bags.

I have this bag in caban (dark blue) and love it too! Agree it great day bag. Even fits my ipad pro (smaller size) and I've been using it for momths a few times per week and still looks new. A great choice!

Hermes also now makes a much larger version of the bag as a weekender (body of the bag is canvas and pockets are leather). It comes in black and gold and both are still on the us website. Tried it on in person as Madison ave - IMHO a weekender more than a day bag (it's large). I have an older all leather Steve Sac de Voyage so didn't need another larger weekender bag though the larger courier bag is great look though now $10K+ for a mostly canvas bag. Photo of it below

BTW, the petite version is advertised online (at least in the US) as having a dedicated space for an airtag - not true for the petite version but the larger version does have a space for an airtag under the flap where the locks sits.

I'm still thinking about making the jump to a Birkin or Kelly 40, or even a HAC 40. Outside this forum, I have not seen any mainstream discussions about this. Men's fashion forums (or at least those with older men discussion more classic and preppy clothes, over edgier streetwear or athleisure influences) are generally hostile and argue a Birkin is established as a female bag or it's just a flex. Mainstream media is odd, where there is a Birkins for men feature every so often, but over half the men featured are gay men with a style that is much more flamboyant than the typical man or the focus is on the price. There has not been any discussion of, say, male trial lawyers using Birkin or HAC 40s as court or work bags because they are high quality and have some similarity to the classic doctor bag that opens up into a roomy leather box. On Instagram, you see far more people in t-shirts and casual wear or in very fashion forward outfits with bright colored Birkins, not more normal photos of men in business, semi-formal or smart casual with a black or dark neutral Birkin 40.

Honestly, if you're trying to look for inspiration from celebrity photos of Birkins for men, excluding rappers with bright crocodile HAC 50s, you'll only find that old photo of David Beckham. (And I simply can't find photos of men taking Evelyne 33 and 40s in the wild.)

So is there still a big disconnect between how Hermes lovers on this forum versus how one's typical social circles will react to a man carrying a black Birkin 40? How do you make the jump and where are other sources of photo samples for encouragement?

I use my B35 and B40 as an everyday bag all the time and have only gotten compliments. The larger size fits both my frame better than a smaller bag and my laptop and I think views are changing about it being to "purselike" for men. I also have a coach empire carryall which has similar dimensions and is sold as unisex as are a multitue of other "tote" style bags. I am sure there are some who may think otherwise or even say to others but not to me though I don't care - I like it and have reached a point in my life where I don't care what others think about what I wear/carry. LOL

I’ve had my first Evelyne few months ago. It’s a 29 and I simply adore it! It’s really my kind of bag: simple, comfortable, easy to wear… you can go anywhere and only selected people know it. And the smell… I sniff the leather scent every time.

But truly, it’s the bag I love to wear. Not too big neither to small, not that heavy as other H bag and easy to fill up with all you belongings.
33 it’s too big for my taste: I’ve tried it but there is something… wrong.. I cannot explain.
If you’re looking for something bigger go for the Herbag as a messenger bag or a BK40, it too heavy but WTH it’s a Birkin :)
