Over a decade ago on this same guys thread, B40s and K40s were the most popular sizes. Soon after it was the B35 and K35. Now it’s B30s, K32, B25, and K25. Personally, i never considered the two smaller Bs…EVER. BUT…the discussions here as of late is starting to sway me. Now I want to see myself holding a B30 or B25. I’m 5’8 with an athletic build similar to J.T. I’m thinking B30 Gold/Gold.

The 40s are great but too big and heavy most of the time, great to hear you changed your mind on the smaller sizes. Please share when you get it :graucho:

Also want to add, I still use a K40 often because it is much slimmer and the shoulder strap makes it more practical for daily use.

Yes. My B40 (Blue Agate) gets very little use. I’ve used it once in the last two years. Like you, I use my Kellys a lot. I generally prefer Kellys and other shoulder/crossbody bags over Birkins anyway just because I want my hands to be free.

A B30 will probably not be my next purchase because I have other items on my 2024 wishlist. But, if I get one, i’ll post about it. I don’t normally post mod pics but maybe that will change.

As a serious big tote lover I have always been inclined to aim for the HAC or B40 but these days it is really about function and purpose. No birkin yet, but have had a chance to try on 35, 30 and 25.

I want an everyday, casual and light weight (mini) tote bag. Already have travel bags and work bags so 35 was out.

I had initially been concerned about a 30 being to small but after trying it in my opinion it is still too big for what I carry on the daily. I also had the chance to get my HG small Bottega Veneta Cabat that lands a size between a 30 and 35 but is significantly lighter as it is lamb skin. I know it is a very different bag to a Birkin but I don’t want or need a repeat size.

After a lot of considerations, for me, it is now definite a 25 that I want. (I had such a great experience with the nicest SA ever at my store that really gave me time to try on everything and browse before adding my wish).

The only con I can find about the B25 is the handles, but honestly I really don’t mind it as much as people complain about it. The 30 definitely had super comfortable handles but the 25 is absolutely OK, maybe I have small hands but personally I am used to my briefcase being hand carry only and the benefit is again that the bag will never get too heavy because there is a limit to what you can put in it.

To echo the advise of others on here I would really think about how you will use the bag.

Here is a mod shot 30 vs 25.
For reference, I am 173cm or 5,8”, athletic build.
I think both would absolutely work on you, but personally I'd just go with what fits your needs and aesthetic the best. I'm 184cm or 6 feet which is pretty tall for a woman and I used to carry huge bags because I thought it just looks more proportional, which was such a ridiculous choice on my part, I now only go with what really fits my needs and my aesthetic and 25s and 30s fit the bill the best for me. And most men don't carry their kitchen sink so a smaller bag totally makes sense. ☺️

I think a B30 would be a great choice. I'll try to put it gently... when I see a picture of a B25 on a man, the first thought I have is how a B30 would look better. But to each their own.
Yeah I definitely would prefer a B30 over a B25. I think a B25 would look awkward on me. I think that a B25 would fit a shorter and thinner man.

Hi gents, does anyone own anything in caban? I'd like to hear your thoughts on the colour. I'm toying between caban and black for a B40 w/ PHW. For reference, I have a HAC in blue nuit and sometimes find it a tad blue.
Ok. Last year I was offered a Kelly Padded 25 in Swift Caban GHW. By coincidence I was wearing my K25 Epsom in Blue Indigo GHW at that time. So I had a chance to put them side by side. In the dark, both bags look black, but not the no shine jet black of Noir in togo. In the light, Caban had a greyish and blueish shade. The blue in it is not as deep as the indigo. Both bags were really close in color though. At the time I thought these two bags had the same use. I still kick myself for not getting that bag though. Uggh. (I ended getting a Geta in Noir, which I ended up not liking so much after using it for a week. But that’s for another post.)

Thank you. Totally agree!

I definitely do think it is best to get a bag that fits a purpose and one’s needs. For some people, I guess that also means considering what you feel comfortable carrying and whether a particular style, type of leather, size or value makes you self conscious, worried or just does not works with your life.

However, the whole “proportionate” argument with bags is outdated and rarely an issue unless we make it one.
I don’t see the point in carrying a large empty/ heavy tote around. Buuut I also have a BV Uomo size Cabat so big bags get no shade from me, but I am first to admit that it is just not practical for daily use so I save it mostly for travel and it still makes me happy everytime I see it.

B25 or B30 is definitely plenty for daily use for the stuff I carry and again, the more space, the heavier the bag gets, and let’s face it, it ALWAYS ends up getting filled up. (I save the work out for the gym and prefer bags to be light).

It took me some time to figure out what works for me and this forum continues to be such a great resource for sharing and discussing views and experiences and getting inspired.

I’d love some votes here too. Thoughts on this PM vs GM Hac a dos? Purely from a proportion perspective. As much as I’d love to keep both, I think I’d rather be on time with my mortgage 🥴😂

If you plan to carry this in front of you like the second photo, definitely the PM. But if you are going to mostly sling it on over your shoulders, the GM looks better. Sorry to be of no help!

From a strictly proportion perspective, if you choose to wear looser silhouettes like sweatshirts or heavy coats, I prefer the GM. Larger bags are trending, and I know a larger bag can make my DH, or me for that matter, look more svelte. But, it looks more relaxed and less tidy. I sometimes carry a larger bag with almost nothing inside, but I am not the most practical person lol.

From a practical standpoint, if one only carries a phone or card case and dislikes weight, a PM has its advantages. It also depends on the size and types of bags you already own. For example, if you have a Dior men’s saddle, IMO it’s similar to a PM, so I would go GM. If this is your only smaller bag, I would choose PM. I hear you re the mortgage lol :)

ETA: I had originally told my SA and DH that I loved the PM (as a bag that would work for either of us) only to be strongly dissuaded bc they did not like the way the straps met the body of the bag. The GM strap bag juncture seemed more aesthetically pleasing to them bc it functioned like a backpack rather than a weird baby bjorn silhouette. I ultimately decided against the HAC a dos, and chose the sac a depeches 21 for DH, and I love borrowing it.

IMO, the PM looks more "tidy".

The GM looks like a backpack that's missing a strap. 🤣

But as someone else mentioned, if you plan to carry it on your back and fill it with lots of stuff, then the GM might be your answer.
