Is anyone familiar with the mechanism of the sac a depeches jewel lock? I recently acquired the sac a depeches 21 and the lock pins inside the keyhole on the jewel lock are always in a horizontal position, whether the bag is locked or unlocked, while the same pins in stock photos from many websites including Hermès always show these pins in a vertical position. Thoughts welcome! View attachment 5714703View attachment 5714704View attachment 5714702View attachment 5714703View attachment 5714717
Mine stays vertical like the photo
PIC of DH; when worn at the back, it sits lower than over the chest
ETA: sac depeches 21 was purchased at the boutique.
Also pic of DH in an Hermes sweater at Dover Street Market

ETA: I have a mini Della cavalleria craie, phw. I think this bag might also be a nice option for you guys.

Hello Gents!

I want to dedicate this space especially for us guys to talk about our B/K/C, and other other rare/quota bags or exotic accessories we acquired (there is already another thread "Space for Guys & their Hermes", but I felt that was for anything Hermes including RTW, jewelry, general stuff, and regular bags you can get from website or walk-in). Let's keep this forum to celebrating the special goodies; and also to discuss the journey you went through to be offered your first (or second or third bag) bag from H.

Don't be afraid to post pics of your special bags or model them for us. Let's have some fun and create this safe space for just us guys.

I am relatively new to my "pre-spend" journey, and notice the women have a lot more goodies they'd have changes to buy & build up pre-spend (relatively speaking, men don't have so many options:sad:), so would love to hear of you guys' pre-spend/quota bag experiences, whether wild or easy! :yahoo:
it might be a daunting task but if you look back several pages on this thread (or do a search) you will see guys posting about Birkins and Kellys that they got in stores. there's probably one or two that bought Constances but I'm not 100% sure.

Was this an attempt to start a new thread and your post has been moved here without explanation?
It does not make sense here; hence allanrvj's comment and advice to look back.
In any case, can we not perpetuate the pre-spend obsession on this thread.

You have to ask the moderators that question---as they are the ones who moved it here.:confused1:
My intention was to not "perpetuate the pre-spend obsession" on your dear thread...hence why I created a separate one. :annoyed:

For the Sac à Dépêches, up until about 2000's, Hermès used a traditional key, with a hollow center and lock bites extending below...it was done like these ever since they put keys on their luggages and trunks...however those keys had a weakness : since they were hollow in the center, they could break if you were to apply force or twist the key while it was inside the lock...

Pre-2000 model : traditional lock and key

Sometimes in the 2000's, I'm not sure when, they switch to a new locking mechanism, using lock pins inside the lock itself, with corresponding holes on the key. The lock pins are part of the plate that rotate when you insert the key. To lock you no longer have to make a full turn with the key like before, you justneed to insert the key and then rotate 90° anti-clockwise to lock and back to neutral position to retrieve the key. Same procedure but with a 90 clockwise rotation to unlock, which is much simpler

Post 2000's model with new key

With this new lock, the key is a lot sturdier and even if you were to somehow break the locking pin, you would not get stranded with a locked Sac à Dépêches and forced to rush to the nearest Hermès store to beg for help before your next board meeting.... IMHO this is probably less secure than an old fashioned key, but let's face it, if someone really want to steal what's in your bag a good knife will do

Regarding the positioning of the visible locking pines on my 2022 bag, are these pins always in a vertical position when visible, or are there variations where the pins are in a horizontal position? Mine are always horizontal when visible, whether the bag is locked or unlocked. Every photo I have seen on the web however shows the pins in a vertical position.

It’s such a great little bag! I can’t understand why it’s not more popular. Congrats on it!
I really like the look of them (both sites) but the size is awkward or impractical for me personally for different reasons. The larger one doesn't hold a laptop, but it's too big for a casual bag, while the small one doesn't hold enough stuff that I would carry around due to the shape. The lock is beautiful, but impractical for my use. I would've gotten the larger size, had it been just a few centimeters larger.

The upcoming crossbody Kelly on the other hand...
