Snobby Tiffany SA

When I get that sort of 'tude from an SA (any SA, not just the ones at high-end jewelry stores), I TELL them, then I ask to speak to someone else.

For f*ck's sake, they're working in RETAIL. Why are they looking down at ME?! I worked in RETAIL at a high-end department store...you suck it up, smile, and kiss ass. It's just what you do. If you're having a bad day, too damn bad. SUCK IT UP. I did it...and I expect the same. They're not there to be my servants, but they had damn well better be courteous, helpful, and attentive. I expect from others what I expected from myself.

So when ANY SA is rude to you, tell them flat out, "Excuse me...save the attitude. Is there someone else I can speak to? Or your MANAGER?" Customers go into a retail store looking to be helped and serviced, not spoken down to.

Next time just switch SAs. I don't know the Tiffany SAs that I've dealt with have been fine, some friendlier I suppose. I did have a bad SA experience at Saks recently and couldn't switch b/c of the department so I went to the manager - I just won't put up with that esp. when I spend so much money there.

I don't think it matters what you wear. When my fiance and I were looking for my engagement ring we got fantastic service at Tiffany's and Cartier even though he was wearing jeans and a sweatshirt sort of thing. We were laughing about it later actually. (Of course he is hot and has a sweet Southern accent so maybe that helps! LOL)

How awful, TravelBug. I would not let a saleswoman put me out of a good mood. I would've just addressed the issue politely and up front: "Is there a reason you're being rather rude?"

Sorry you had that experience. I no longer put up with any crap from sales people. My money and time are worth too much to be mistreated.

Hey girls, thanks for all your replies ... some of them cracked me up! I know ... I shouldn't have let that snobby SA get to me for even that short few minutes when I was inside the store. The funny thing was ... she didn't even know she had little boogers hanging out of her left nostril!!! :p  I guess I could have told her that, huh? :graucho:

I did have a great SA helping out one time ... when I was shopping for gifts for our wedding party. She was so patient and helpful that I ended up buying more than I planned! Why is it so hard for all these snobby SAs to understand that you can't judge a book by its cover????

I've had good and bad service at the SF store--and I go there all the time! I don't have a favorite SA--they're always switching departments & I can't keep up! When my husband and I were looking for wedding party gifts, we got this scary witchy looking woman..and I was worried she would be rude & I'd have to school her :-) She was hilarius! Bitter! But, she figured out that I get the joke & we laughed the whole time!

My FAVORITE T &CO? Beverly Hills! They are AWESOME! At that store & I wish I could use THAT store as my primary one. SF is rough but, I'm treated better there than the 5th Ave store in NYC! Those are some snobby @itches!!

How rude of her!

For Christmas when I went to go get my necklace we had to wait in the line for a free SA; so I was able to just stand around & watch everyone. All of the SAs there seemed really nice..ours was very helpful and friendly, and patient with us even when the whole store was packed with people.

And if all else fails speak to the manager or call customer service, they need to know about this and maybe these SAs will get over themselves and realize that they just WORK at Tiffany and definitely do not own it.

I agree with this! There is absolutely no reason for this to ever happen! Sad that it still does. You never know which customer will buy something, who will become loyal customers and refer all of their friends. Pays to be nice!

Yikes! The bottom line for me is, why should a store clerk have any type of attitude towards ANY customer?! That is purely ridiculous. And why should a customer have to dress up in all their best finery to get decent service? Clerks are there to help the customer, and that is all there is to it, IMO. How wacky that they would think they are superior in some way just because they work in a nice shop...good grief! They obviously are depending on these gigs as their livelihood..while some of the customers most likely don't even have to work at all.

I always walk in like a total hurricane! Sweats and all!! And I still get great service at my regular store. However when it comes to other places..

While I was reading this thread, I noticed that the views starting to be bashing Tiffany & Co. I only go to the local Tiffany store here and there, but I've never been treated anything but the utmost respect. I even went into the store once with a broken toe and I was sat down in a lounge by the sales associates. That way they can bring the items for me to view. Just getting to know the sales associates and sharing stories is fun in itself. If you don't like a sales associate, ask for another. I think Tiffany items are great, but let's not let one person get in the way of viewing Tiffany differently than an amazing experience.

I know what you mean. I used to work at COACH and we had our share of *****y customers, but as SA's we would ***** about the customers in the back, but when we walked back on the floor it was all smiles. Almost like we were actresses..its just what we did.

PS I have had my share of snobby SAs at the Tiffany's at short hills mall in NJ. Can't stand it..almost ruins the experience sometimes!!
