Small classic flap - does anybody have it and love it - or not? Opinions and thoughts?

I have same problems with my first Chanel purchase. I am still deciding between small and M/L size. I saw M/L size in store ( department store) somehow it looks so wide on me and asked for Small size. The SA told me it is hard and rare to find Small size in US and recommended to check out boutique... I could not find any SA at Boutique so ... the rest will be history... I am going to pick up small size in Europe ... hopefully I will like the small size and despite increasing price on M/L size

Thanks! I hope that you will be able to pick up a small in Europe. I did not think that the small was difficult to get since I thought it was not as popular as the jumbo and the M/L Classic flaps... But I suppose that they might produce fewer of the small and maybe this is the reason it might be hard to find. Wish you good luck on your search for the small one! :-)

My first Chanel bag was a small Classic Flap back in 2005. I think it is very beautiful, looks better than the Mini and it’s more luxurious with the double flap, plus it fits all my essentials. I think it is a great size which is also great for evening wear. I have never had any regrets!
Thank you! Great to hear that you are satisfied with your small CF :-)
I absolutely agree that it looks more exclusive and luxurious - sort of more like a "real bag/purse" than the mini and yet small enough to be elegant for evening and more formal wear. That is the reason why I am considering it. Just a bit afraid that it would look to small on me and I would also love the option of being able to wear it crossbody but I think the chain is to short... I am 5.6 so it might not work for me (if I am correct) but I have never seen this size live or tried it on so I do not know. I only assume because of what I have been reading and/or pictures :-)

Got my small classic flap in Oct last year and it’s my first ever Chanel bag. What can I say, I am now three bags in and the small flap is still my favorite! I can carry her crossbody comfortably as I’m petite (only 5’1).

It’s funny because I actually went into the boutique wanting to grab a medium/large back then. But after trying it on the SA and I agreed the m/l looked a little too big on my frame. The strap length when I carried the m/l on one shoulder was also a tad long for my liking.

Luckily for me the small flap was available and after trying it on the rest was history! Have attached a crossbody pic for your reference!

It look great on you crossbody! :-) Absolutely stunning. I am a bit jealous of you being able to carry it crossbody. :-) That is one of the things I am thinking of since I am 5.6 tall. So I do not think that I can wear it crossbody. But maybe I can live with that and just carry it with a short strap and/or on the shoulder... I would mostly wear it as an evening bag and then I might not feel the need to carry it crossbody as much as if I would wear it more daytime / casual. I suppose I have to try it on in the boutique to be sure...

For me, the size is great but it depends on what you want to carry with you. I am about the same height, and don’t wear this bag crossbody. If I want to wear a crossbody bag, I usually take a Reissue or WOC with me. I do want to mention that my bag is about 14 years old now, so I am not sure if the strap length is still the same. Good luck choosing!

Ha, same here! :) I was deciding between the m/l and the small flap for a long time at the store and really wanted to pick the m/l (as it is a little bigger and the price difference is basically insignificant), but the small kind of looked better on me, so I picked that one :) But then at home I still wasn’t completely sure whether I’ve made the right decision, so a couple of days later I went to another city (there is no Chanel boutique in my hometown) and wanted to see the m/l one more time... but again I went home with my small flap, as also at that store the SA explained to me that the small looks more appropriate for me as the m/l makes me look older & the strap is too long :D (I am quite petite and young looking, I got a feeling that she thought I was a teenager, hehe). But I must agree, the m/l looked a little ‘off’ on me, kind of like a granny’s bag, lol  The small looks more ‘fresh’ and youthful, I believe :)

It is a little snug worn cross-body, but I don’t wear my bags often that way, anyway... however, recently I’ve seen quite a few bloggers wearing the small flap cross-body, so I guess it is getting popular as well :)

I think small flap is the best size!
It just looks so chic, can easily transition from day to night and still looks and feels like the real deal.
I love wearing small cf crossbody as well.
Ill never buy a black m/l, it somehow looks "stolen from mom" on me. (but maybe a bright coloured one.. :D )
And it doesnt hold so much more than the small. Bigger daily items like waterbottle, cardigan, sketchbook etc wouldn't fit in the m/l anyway.. I sometimes just add a fun tote if I don't feel like carrying some things in my hands.
I absolutely love the look of the Jumbo, but its about the weight of an aw rocco, wayy to heavy to add even more stuff imho ..
My chanel wishlist mainly consists of small flaps in different colours.. but lets see what'll come along post Karl and post price increase...

Hello,

i tried on both. At first (few month ago) I wanted the small one cause I thought the medium would be to big For my frame. I am also petit 5.1.
But when I went in the boutique few weeks ago i tried on both again and the medium was the one wich i liked more. The chain length is the same.
Best is to try on both by yourself and will see what your heart is jumping for ..both are beautiful bags and I think you can’t go wrong with either. i also have a mini but i think nonetheless small and mini works for different occasions. And small cf looks more elegant than Mini cause you have more options wearing the bag different wise. i love all three sizes. Hope you find the best size for you.

On the pic left is medium cf and right small cf in lamb

I understand that the reason why it is rare to find a small flap in the US is because it is only 1" smaller from east to west than the M/L and most Americans would rather have the extra 1" and buy the M/L considering the small fits the same as a mini. But I can see why people who are shorter would like the small better, so it just seems to be preference on how it fits your body frame.

I have both m/l, small and mini. To me the m/l and small are pretty much the same, I use them the same way and they carry my stuff pretty much the same. I do prefer the look of the small slightly more, and if I had the option to buy the exact same bag in either small or m/l I would probably buy small. However, I often look for a special color combo that's hard to find and then I would be happy with either, depending on what I found.

The mini to me is a different bag, I actually use it more casually even if it's a smaller bag because it sits comfortably cross body. I think the small and m/l looks more expensive and dressy as you wear them on the shoulder. I do wear my minis on evenings and occasions as well, but I hardly ever reach for my m/l or small unless I want to look more dressy (and don't need a practical bag).

Lol, exactly, I feel the same  When I was buying the bag the SA actually told me that m/l makes me ‘look older, but not in a good way’ (she said I was too young for m/l)... I think she was kindly implying that I looked slightly funny with it   Which is kind of sad, as a really like it on others.

I agree... I must admit that I really dislike the mini, I’ve never liked that bag, esp. not the square one :/ But the small CF is quite different, a real purse and not just a tiny ‘box’ like the mini :girlsigh:

I have a small black, ghw, classic flap from years ago. I used to wear it all the time, but since acquired several more classic flaps, M/L and Jumbo. It's nice for evening if you're not going the clutch route. I use a long Bottega Knot for that.

Thank you for your comment, much appreciated. This absolutely does make sense and for my lifestyle I could see myself thinking and prioritizing like this. I have a Coco handle in the small size (29 cm) that I can fit a lot in and I think that it is close to the jumbo in size and/or how much you can fit in it... I also have a reissue WOW that I love, so the really small bag is also covered... The M/L flap does not appeal that much to me so I was thinking that the small might be the right one for me - also hoping that it might land in between the WOC and the Coco handle in size so I could get the most out of my bags... So I would think that my Coco handle would pretty much match your 227 reissue in how I wear and use it (maybe).

The comment on lengthening the chain is also very much appreciated! I just recently found out that this was a possibility...! I would have been very nervous to have anybody do things like that to my expensive bags but I find that quite a few people have been lengthening the chains... The possibility of doing that is really great! It is sad if you love a bag and the only thing that bothers you is the chain length and you do not buy it / use it for this sole reason...

Agree with all of this! You would never know that the chain had been lengthened. It's perfect! I have no idea why Chanel doesn't make the chain longer on the small flap to begin with. By the way, I love the Coco Handle. Gorgeous bag!
