Simulated Diamonds

Simulated diamonds are chemically and physically the same so why not? I think this is one instance where the simulated substance is sometimes comparable or even superior to the real thing when you are concerned about price, quality, and potential politically incorrect origins. I am so sick of DeBeers and its stronghold on the diamond industry and the masterful marketing it has dispensed on females worldwide. Also think about the artificial restriction of the diamond supply - they're great stones, but not as valuable as they are priced and perceived. Thus all the reasons why my SO already knows I don't want one in my e-ring.

*Off the soapbox* :lecture:So if you like the simulated diamonds, definitely go for it!

Some very real and important facts very eloquently put, diamonds are really not as rare as were led to belive, but marketing, and the restriction of how many are let onto the market at any one time lead us to belive that, and all serve to make us want one more.If your worried from a security point or have budget limitations,I don't think there is a 'right and wrong' scenario here, and they are all gorgeously sparkly and satisfy the most avid of magpies in us!!!!!!!!!!!!So just do it!!!XXXXXXXX

Well said Chaz, a definate voice of reason!!!

I have a pair of CZ studs and a pair of genuine diamond studs, 3ct and 3/4ct respectively. The genuine diamonds have screwbacks and I feel so much better with the secure mechanism. However, the way my earlobes are shaped, they are darn ginormous, the larger set looks better. I couldn't possibly afford 3cts worth of genuine studs but the czs I have look better proportioned on my earlobes.

The DeBeers commercials are always guaranteed to suck me right in. The commercials themselves tell us that with the right diamond, you have the perfect love. That's what they are playing on. The commercials always show a wonderful husband. If we had a dream husband to give us a dream ring, we'd be perfect just like the dream wife. I can only imagine how many arguments ensue have after seeing the commercials... "why can't you get me a Journey pendant and surprise me like that?!!"

Just a word of advice re: The Diamond Guy, Fred Cuellar. His advice has largely been discredited by others in the diamond industry. Please go to Pricescope and do a search, before taking his advice too seriously. I don't want to seem like a "know it all," but he has gotten people needlessly concerned about "warped girdles" and other such things.

I'm just bumping up this thread because I'm trying to find out more about simulated diamonds vs. diamond simulants, and wondering if there are any experts out there to help me. I'm not keen to buy real diamonds because of the child slave labour they use in the mines and the terrible mining practices (thanks Leonarddo DiCaprio!) In fact, the reason why I won't buy real diamonds is the same reason I won't buy a fake handbag!

But I also don't want something 'cheap' or 'fake'. So my question is, which are the companies that just sell cubic zirconias, and which are the ones that sell actual lab-created diamonds? I'm only interested in the ones that are chemically indistinguishable from the real thing, even though these probably cost more. There is one company called secrets-shh in Australia, but I can't find any information about the chemical properties. Can anybody help me?
