Sigh...I don't like my Birkin

Just want to add that there is one bag that I hardly use, and that's my Vert Anis Togo Kelly. I put it down to a colour too striking for me.

I agree Vert Anis is vibrant! It could be the togo leather? I don't care for togo either.

My Kelly is Swift, and my Picotin is Chevre. I love Vert Anis in Lizard also!

Jemi - I think isus offered some great advice; use it a bit and see if it grows on you. Personally, I love it, but I am a much more casual person so the birkin fits the bill (I don't really like the Kelly. . . but I'm reluctant to part with the two I have).

I have had an experience with a Bolide in Gold w/GHW that I ended up being the wrong color and hw for me and I love Bolides! I also have made a mistake with an Orange Plume (result of oh-so-cute scarf book photo) and well, that one has gone away, too. So, to make a long story short, please take heart as you are not alone in being uncertain with your purchase. :flowers: Ultimately, it is important to follow your heart and adapt your collection to your style ~ you are not a weirdo if the Birkin does not sing to you!

jemi - Am really sorry to hear you are not happy with your new purchase. From your description, it sounds like you might prefer shoulderbags to handbags. And that is totally fine. I have often wondered if the reason you see a lot of Birkins on eBay is because so many of us love the look of a Birkin but really need hands-free. My $.02 is to try the options others have suggested for making her easier to use. If those don't work, put her up for adoption and then select something else you will both like and use.

With it being box leather, it is more stiff than some of the other leathers. I have a 35 in box and I love it. You say it's hard to get in to. Just pull it open to the width you need.

From your picture I see that you've got her all strapped up. It sounds like you are wanting a more casual look.

Here are two pics of my boxcalf Birkin .. one strapped up like yours and the other with the straps loosened. There are points in between, as well. You can leave the straps in the guides but not buckled, for example. Boxcalf can be stiff but already mine has loosened up. My bag is a 35 but I think the effect would be the same with your 30.

See how different she looks ... one more formal and the other more casual.

Well I have been talking about this with one friend from the forum and thru the conversations we agreed maybe I need to see how a larger one feels to see if that is the issue.

I don't think it is the color - I really like the brown. And it is much nicer than the picture I posted (that picture is terrible - make it look like a shiny bag). Since opening this thread and making a few responses back to people I am thinking maybe it is the leather and I should have gotten something softer - the bag is a real PITA to get in and out of even when not strapped up.

Wow Jemi, my leather is Evergraine. It is stiff but, it is easy to get into and I wear my straps closed and locked! Try a Bagmate, it makes it easier.

I think a softer leather will make it much harder to get into?

Hi Jemi, I love your bag and I bet you just need to open her up and organize the interior. I had a heck of a time coming to terms with my first one, but once I figured out how to organize my stuff, I carry one to work almost every day. Mine are 30 cm and they hold everything including clean socks for the gym! Give her a chance; she deserves it!

Sorry, I was multi-tasking and didn't provide the rationale for my post above. I had meant to say that VA was hard for me, and as a result, I used very little of it. And it was meant to prompt if the Birkin is in a colour that you prefer, maybe you would truly enjoy having one???

jemi - I'm sure you'll find something that you'll like soon.

I jumped on some birkins without much thought as they're so hard to come by. Took me a while to realize that they're not quite right. Since then, I've trim down my collection and only get the ones that I'll keep forever.

By the way, your bag is really nice. Do give it some time... Brown in box leather...

Jemi ~ I'm sorry you didn't instantly love your birkin. I agree with the others, get it out and use it before you make a final decision. It looks like a beautiful bag.

I agree not every bag is for every person! It might be the size - I went through that issue thinking I didn't like the kelly bag but I really just didn't have the right size! I also love the bolide best - indiscreet, easy to use, etc. - sometimes I think some might get caught up in feeling we should love the most popular coveted styles but it doesn't always work for us! And it can be a fun process trying to figure it out -- good luck!

Jemi, I feel for you...it is disappointing to get something you thought for sure you wanted only to find out..maybe, not so much! It IS a BEAUTIFUL bag! If you really find it's not for you, then it's not for you! :okay: Move on, life is short and there are so many bags to experience and enjoy!
My experience with Birkins has been that I need to stick to the casual leathers, even though I drool for chamonix and brown box! I had a vache liegee in natural that I bought because I loved the color. I just could not get used to the stiffness. So, I sold it! If only we could sell all relationships that just don't pan out!
