This is a coach bag that I picked up this weekend.

I've never seen it before so I don't know the style name. I was going to go to ask at the ID thread but it shows that no one has poysted there in years. Can anyone here tell me anything about this purse?

Thanks!

Yep the ID gals at the above link are really wonderful! You need to take photos of the bag from several angles and especially a clear photo of the interior creed patch. your bag is probably new enough that an ebay search of the #'s will bring up somebody else's auction of that bag with it's proper name, but its best to get it i.d.'d and authenticated properly if you can.

Have to VENT for a sec.

I have been in a state of mild depression today since discovering that BOTH of my TAFT lovelies are likely FAKES... very nice fakes...BOOOO !!! I HATE FAKES... and even worse, if I carry these bags around-- MY joy will be diminished, even though every single human being on the planet except Hyacinth and the authenticators ( sounds like a band name) wouldn't even know it --LOL..arggggg....I HATE COUNTERFEITERS...so I just felt like VENTING. I bring a dang smart phone with me and do everything I possibly CAN in a short period of time given me at the store, to make sure a bag seems good before I take it home. Unfortunately the thrift shops where I find all the best stuff, don't allow returns. And I bought them too long ago anyway. :cursing: :censor:

you win some, you lose some.

jessi could you post detailed pictures of the supposed fakes if they are so we can see what it is about them that deems them fake.

I just picked up a black legacy zip bag style # 9966 that i'm almost positive is an extremely good replica with the correct style number and everything. I found it for 4 bucks at a flea market and really only picked it up b/c i actually needed a "good" fake for comparisons and to show other people what about it makes it fake. I will be sure to have it "authenticated" to be sure but i have 2 other true legacy 9966 bags and there are things about this one that are off but it's actually still not a bad bag if it is fake.

Hyacinth says it best: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-shopping/authenticate-this-coach-694619-790.html My first Taft starts at posting #11841. I then submitted the second brown one to show her that it matches in most details to the first one. Which ultimately led to her having doubts about BOTH....
Here is the conversation at the Authentification link. Mainly it has a proper style #, but the plant code and the year don't coordinate with known copies of bags of this age and/or the creed patch style isn't quite right for the year, etc. And the zipper pull was strange.

I was reading that thread and as one vintage fan to another, I'm sending you a virtual hug. I have a fake ramblers legacy that I've been debating what to do with and I finally decided.this weekend that I'm going to write "fake"across the creed with a sharpie and carry it anyway. Its a cute bag, nice leather, and I'm not going to let the counterfeiters win!

Those Taft's are cute. Its not the same as the real thing, but at least its not an obvious Foach. The leather on my bag feels great and I bet yours does too.

So sorry to hear this. I think the E plant code on the brown one would have worried me but I don't even know if I would have thought to have the black one authenticated. I would be very depressed too. This just proves that they do make fake vintage bags that are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.
If I were you, I would tell your thrift store anyway. Even if they don't take returns, it is illegal to sell counterfeits. Since you are a good customer, they should do something to make it up to you.

these are truly cute little dowel-topped bags!! Nice find!

Thank you! I read your post and I am so sorry. It is disgusting that there are so many counterfeiters out there. I don't get why people can't just make their own unique creations instead of copying off of others. The people who sell them aren't any better either. Sending you lots of luck on your next find. :)

Great idea! Don't not use such cute bags. I have a friend who ended up with a Foach and uses it to travel to the city. That way she doesn't have to carry her good bags in a bad area. ;)

I read the AT forum every morning with my first cup of coffee...and I was just amazed - and DISMAYED - to see your Tafts go down in flames! I would have thought maybe the different zipper was just a Taft thing, especially when both of yours had the same one! What a shame.

Over the years (before I knew what I now know), I've been duped too...with the infamous "bean bag" City bag (and 4 others that I paid less than $4 apiece for)! It's now being used for leather scraps...and the others are at least out of circulation.

I got a giggle out of Hyacinth and the Authenticators...what do you think, a rap song about style numbers, plant codes and YKK? LOLOLOL!

Try to not be too bumbed out...your percentage of wins is certainly better than your losses!
