Should I sell my 227 Reissue for a Hermes Lindy

Dear lovely ladies, thanks so much for your comments. Everything makes sense. I still have a black M/L, a gold medium boy and a timeless cc clutch which are options for dinners. What I'm missing is a true 'work bag' that can go from everywhere to even interviews. Im just frustrated with not being able to fit that something extra when I really need to. Eg just a little snack (like Lays chips that I prefer to throw in discreetly in my bag) I need to carry in my hand cos the reissue simply has no space for it. I promise I've never attempted to put burgers or a wet Brolly in my beloved bags :p

Actually to be perfectly honest the best bag I ever had is the LV speedy. It can fit an elephant inside and yet look perfectly ladylike and Classic. Unfortunately I've sold it. In many ways the Lindy reminds me the speedy in terms of the roominess and beautiful structure.

As you said, you are missing a work bag. Maybe the speedy b is something you should consider or the Neverfull. I have a LV Totally and some canvas bags from Fendi and Gucci that I use as a work bag. They provide the space for work and lunch stuff. The Lindy is a cute bag but I don't see how practical it is as a work tote. Let us know what you decide.

I think the Reissue 227 is a beautiful, classy bag and if I were you, I'd try and keep it since you state you loved it and used it when you initially got it. It's perfect for so many occasions and is very versatile. I'm not fond of totes either, and recently sold a " like new" Chanel Cerf Tote and GST ( both less than a year old and carried only a handful of times) and the resale value for each was a mere fraction of what I paid for the bags. Both were purchased brand new from the boutique. I don't miss the bags, but I lost a lot of money.

Have you ever considered the LV Sofia Coppola PM? It's a fabulous, roomy daily bag. Very luxurious, yet practical. I absolutely love mine. I also love my LV canvas Speedys. The Speedy is iconic, functional, and it can be dressed up or down.

You know your needs best and your personal taste in bags. Follow you instincts and your heart and buy what you love and will use.

I agree on the Sofia Coppola! They're discontinuing it though, so you'd have to act fast. It's chic, will ALWAYS be in style, and the quality is superb.

The reissue is also classic, however, so I'd try to find a way to keep that while also getting a daily bag. The SC (Sofia Coppola) is $4500ish brand new so it may not be possible. I think you should still get a speedy type bag in addition to keeping the reissue, though. Both are essential for different purposes.

I went through a similar dilemma about a year ago, considering selling my 227 for more Hermes. Then I got quotes from some reputable online consignment shops (including Yoogi's and Ann's) and was shocked at how little I'd get for a bag that is in new condition and still has everything (box, dust bag, card, etc.). I realized that although I don't use the bag that often, if I sold it I'd never re-buy it and I decided to keep it. It's a beautiful classic and although I don't wear it often, I'm really glad now that I didn't sell.

I like the Lindy on others but I don't think it would work for me. It is a bulky bag that sticks out from the body when worn by the shoulder strap, and my SA told me the way it folds in on itself when carried by the handles would drive me crazy (and I suspect she's right). The top does not zip shut. Between the Lindy and the Speedy B, I'd rather have the Speedy B before we even get to the price difference.

I have three Hermes Garden Parties but find when I need to carry a lot, I resort to a trusty Longchamp Le Pliage, which is lighter, has a zipper and the handles fit over the shoulder much more easily. If you want to continue to carry your 227 to work, I'd just ditch the paper bag and get a Longchamp. But if you're looking for a classy office bag that fits more, how about the Fendi 2Jours? Really beautiful bag, IMO, and well made and will fit what you need for way less money than a Lindy. Just my 2 cents.

If u can hang on, just get the lindy without sacrificing 227. I am afraid if u sell 227 to buy lindy, u will want to have it back ultimately.

I stupidly sold my maxi for evelyn. I dont regret. But i wish i hadnt forgone my maxi. Now i am thinking about having one back.

FYI, i have a lindy 34 in Bleu Electric. Its fabulous. Not a loud bag that scream the brand but its noticeably an elegant piece and spacious for me to hold a ton.

I know your problem - I also take my 227 to work along with a small bag with my lunch & sometimes books/papers. My long wallet, glasses, 2 phones, key case & notebook/tissues/lipgloss are packed into my 227 like a jigsaw & there's no room for other essentials. I sometimes wonder why I paid so much for a sub-functional bag, although look-wise the 227 is perfect for my very competitive workplace, it's businesslike without coming across like a designer princess bag.

I'm not wild about totes either - have a Chanel tote but don't use it much - so I'm always interested in bags that aren't totes, but fit a lot of stuff. My favorite work bag is probably my Bottega Veneta Brera - a satchel style with tough leather, really well made, easy access & tons of room http://www.bragmybag.com/bottega-veneta-brera-bag/

The Lindy always looks like a bundle of gorgeous leather... If you don't need a shoulder bag, maybe look at the Brera - you could pick them up on sale so you could also keep the 227 :smile1:

MissFluffyCat you know how I feel exactly! I also carry 2 phones. I can't fit in my sunglasses without squashing them. Already my reissue is showing some signs of bulge due to me trying to fit only my 'essentials' - which is my long caviar wallet, 2 iPhones, compact, lipstick, house keys, tissues, umbrella and office lanyard. It's really ironic as I sold my jumbo to fund the reissue as I wanted a roomier bag.

I work in a very professional environment too so being unstated is key, but my Chanels still get many 'glares'. I have 1 other black distressed leather seasonal Chanel flap and I like it very much as my work bag. It can carry more stuffs, and it is very rugged looking.

Speedy is significantly cheaper than the Hermes so why not get one of those again? I've been thinking of getting a pre-owned epi speedy since I hear they don't make them anymore and I like the simplicity. It'd be a great bag and you know you can fit tons and not baby it.

And I put burgers in my bags all the time! Hot dogs and milkshakes too. Lolllz.

I used to put ballet flats in my speedy :p i let go of my speedy as it was a monogram piece and there are too many ppl carrying monogram designs where I live and work.

I think that you should do what's the most convinient for you. If you are more comfortable with having everything in one bag, then sell your 227 reissue. Use your own judgment for what will be the best option for you. You do not need to explain or prove yourself to anyone. When at the end you are comfortable and confident, then you made the right choice :smile1:

Thank u Olgita. I used to suffer from 'logo mania'. That was how I ended up with so many beautiful, small, yet impractical bags. And I don't get to go to that many dinners or exciting nights out to use all the little bags.

Then I moved to carrying more understated bags as I grew older. I appreciated the design and leather more and gotten less important to me whether ppl 'knows' what I'm carrying.

Also, how about a longchamp Pliage ? Those are very basic bags but look much better then bringing a paper bag.

I agree. Or get another Speedy in non-monogram. Much less money and you can use and abuse both.

I usually think sell the bag you don't use, buy what you will use, don't worry about price increase... but in this case, I would not sell the reissue to fund a Lindy IF IT WERE ME. I could be biased since I'm not a fan of Lindy... but it's not like you never used/liked it! We all get tired of bags we love and get distracted by shiny new ones, I think... I know I do. But then once the newness wears off... ;)

To me,Reissue 227 is such a classic and elegant bag.I own both a Reissue 227 and Lindy. Both are a completely different bag. I won't sell my Reissue to fund for a Lindy.Like the rest of the ladies have suggested,LV speedy B seems good as a work bag and it's not so highly priced.

The Speedy is gorgeous in Damier Ebene. I know this is the Chanel forum, and you're asking about a Hermes bag style, but you did state you loved the functionality of your Speedy. My SC PM and DE Classic Speedy are two of the most used, most loved bags in my collection. They are versatile, beautiful and functional.
