Dear ladies

I woke up since 530am on a lovely Sunday morning agonizing over this. Sorry if I'm sounding so dumb here but it's driving me nuts.

I've always been a great Chanel lover, scrimping and saving here and there to get the classics over many years. My last purchase was the 227 reissue and I used to love her so much.

Over the last few years I've sold a jumbo, a M/L, 2 WOCs. The main reason is I got tired of going out with a fancy bag but can't fit much essentials or stuff a banana or apple in to go to work. I don't carry the entire house with me but whenever I go out, I always need a long wallet, compact umbrella, compact, iphone. I'm sick and tired of carrying a paper bag with me everywhere I go just and stuffing my coins and cash in a teeny weeny case just I can carry my classics.

The day of reckoning came when my colleague asks me looking rather bemused why do you always carry a big paper bag to work? The answer is even my reissue 227 can't fit a small sandwich that I pack to work. Or a foldable shawl that I wanna carry to work. It's sunny and rainy where I live so I carry my Brolly in my paper bag too!

Recently I saw the hermes lindy IRL and I'm simply amazed by how much it can fit while looking so chic. It can even fit some diapers and my baby's milk bottle and snacks (and my sandwich!). I'm so sold.

I need roomy bags that can fit my essentials but I don't really fancy totes. I sold my GST a few yrs ago and no regrets, it was too bulky and heavy for me.

I'll be sad to part with a well loved classic but it's the only way I can fund a Lindy. Pls help!!

The Hermes lindy is a fabulous bag, but I personally think it's more of a 'day bag' compared to the reissue you have.
Do you have any other Chanel bags to fill in the void for 'those occasions' if you sell her? The last thing you want would be selling and then buying it back again at a higher price.

I love the lindy and own one its a very different look from the reissue. hoping to save up money to buy a reissue this year so clearly im no help.

They are complete different bags and I wouldn't even have sold your Chanel bags for those reasons you mentioned in first place. M/L , Jumbo, WOC, Reissue..

These are all bags you use for having a drink or going out with the hubby for instance, not for bringing to work imho. I have bought and sold many bags over the past few years, I started with Chanel and thought I was completely over it when I found Hermes and sold a lot of bags, including a Boy which i totally totally totally regret right now since I got it when the price was still reasonable. Anyway, I've decided to keep 1 M/L flap in Black and WOC in Black for those occasions mentioned above and I am so happy that I did.

For work or other occasions when I need more space, I now have a Hermes Kelly 32 and an Evelyne.

Don't sell your reissue, you mentioned that you used to wear it a lot. Well, keep wearing it, just for other occasions than your work, use it for date nights or going out with your friends. Prices will only go up and the quality down imo. If you like the Lindy, get it, but don't replace it for the Reissue.

I agree with the others. The reasons you stated are not enough to sell the reissue to fund the lindy. The bags are very different in functionality and look. If you need a bigger bag to store your lunch, umbrella, baby's bottle, diapers, etc. then get a tote for them. I know that some people do not like to carry two bags, but it doesn't make much sense to me to carry food inside an expensive leather bag. As for the umbrella, if it's wet wouldn't you just leave it outside your purse?

i like that you're trying to use your 227 each day and realize that it's not practical. it's obvious you need more space in your bag. i completely agree that Chanel bags cannot fit much at all, which is why (for work) I usually take two bags with me... a regular (no-brand) work tote and a smaller Chanel bag for lunch/walking/style. maybe you just need a regular work tote in addition to your 227 and don't actually need to sell the 227? put the lunch, baby items, and etc. in a tote and use the 227 as the purse.

Dear lovely ladies, thanks so much for your comments. Everything makes sense. I still have a black M/L, a gold medium boy and a timeless cc clutch which are options for dinners. What I'm missing is a true 'work bag' that can go from everywhere to even interviews. Im just frustrated with not being able to fit that something extra when I really need to. Eg just a little snack (like Lays chips that I prefer to throw in discreetly in my bag) I need to carry in my hand cos the reissue simply has no space for it. I promise I've never attempted to put burgers or a wet Brolly in my beloved bags :p

Actually to be perfectly honest the best bag I ever had is the LV speedy. It can fit an elephant inside and yet look perfectly ladylike and Classic. Unfortunately I've sold it. In many ways the Lindy reminds me the speedy in terms of the roominess and beautiful structure.

I know your problem - I also take my 227 to work along with a small bag with my lunch & sometimes books/papers. My long wallet, glasses, 2 phones, key case & notebook/tissues/lipgloss are packed into my 227 like a jigsaw & there's no room for other essentials. I sometimes wonder why I paid so much for a sub-functional bag, although look-wise the 227 is perfect for my very competitive workplace, it's businesslike without coming across like a designer princess bag.

I'm not wild about totes either - have a Chanel tote but don't use it much - so I'm always interested in bags that aren't totes, but fit a lot of stuff. My favorite work bag is probably my Bottega Veneta Brera - a satchel style with tough leather, really well made, easy access & tons of room http://www.bragmybag.com/bottega-veneta-brera-bag/

The Lindy always looks like a bundle of gorgeous leather... If you don't need a shoulder bag, maybe look at the Brera - you could pick them up on sale so you could also keep the 227 :smile1:

Speedy is significantly cheaper than the Hermes so why not get one of those again? I've been thinking of getting a pre-owned epi speedy since I hear they don't make them anymore and I like the simplicity. It'd be a great bag and you know you can fit tons and not baby it.

And I put burgers in my bags all the time! Hot dogs and milkshakes too. Lolllz.

In my humble opinion, chanel is more of a dressy bag while hermes Lindy is a daytime bag. The reissue is stunning and I personally would never trade it for the Lindy.

Lots of good insite from people here so far. If I can add, I recently consigned a silver 227 brand new condition from 2014 with white dust bag, serial card, care card and only got $2600. for a bag I paid $6000 plus tax for. 🙄 This was after getting quotes from multiple on line co alignment stores. Please know you may not get much for your reissue. If this is not a problem, then I say sell and get a bag that works better for your life. If the speedy worked, what about the empriente leather speedy? Comes with a strap so you can hang from your shoulder for work or cross body when handling baby. The leather IMHO looks much more understated and luxurious than the monogram leather. Hope this helped. ☺️

Hermes Lindy is an interesting looking bag; if it's as functional as you think it is, I would try adding it (as opposed to substituting it) to your collection. Everyone here makes a good point: you'll lose loads of $$$ on the sale of the reissue, and if you ever want one again you'll end up spending even more for it. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

I think that you should do what's the most convinient for you. If you are more comfortable with having everything in one bag, then sell your 227 reissue. Use your own judgment for what will be the best option for you. You do not need to explain or prove yourself to anyone. When at the end you are comfortable and confident, then you made the right choice :smile1:
