Should i get an evelyne...?

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful inputs! After reading through all your replies, I am definitely going to go for one. I have three kids and when I am out with my youngest who is three years old, I never really get to carry a birkin, as she constantly wants to be carried. So my go-to bags are kellys or bolides but even kellys can be a hassle to open and close.

catsinthebag - it's a great idea to wear it with the pocket on the outside. I never really liked the H logo :p

I also like the fact that the evelyne is flat and that I could pack it in my luggage. I usually carry a bolide when I am traveling, then have a big carry on bag with a clutch inside a kelly 28 inside a birkin 30. So I think I will enjoy the fact that the evelyne could be inside the check-in bag.

I was initially thinking about getting a more casual and fun color - like a blue hydra or an orange poppy- but after reading all of your posts, I think I should go for a neutral color. Any recommendation for a neutral color? I live in year-round hot climate so I am in shorts a lot. I am thinking that black or navy may be too heavy looking for the weather. My favorite is gold but I already have a bolide and a birkin in gold. But if I get a gold evelyne, I could probably use the gold canvas strap on the gold bolide too... I am not a big etoupe fan... Which color bolide have you found very versatile in the summer?

Thank you again!
Mine is Rouge casaque. Love it.
Although I already have a Kelly in Etain, I would love to find an Evelyne in Etain. It's a perfect neutral.

The Evelyne and the Bolide are my most carried bags. I love my Kellys, but for ease of use and under the radar style, the Evelyne and Bolide can't be beat.

On my casual days, I carry an Evelyne. It's perfect for running around shopping, weekends at the park or museum, sightseeing, etc. I like the trim depth of the Evelyne, the way it sits close to the body, the fact that the strap is adjustable and I can wear it on the shoulder or cross body. The bolide is too wide at the base to wear cross body, IMO. I also like the fact that I can reach in with one hand- with the bolide one has to hold the bag while undoing the zipper. The Evelyne holds quite a bit and I like to use the outside pocket for my phone and sunglasses- no need to fish around for my ringing phone- super easy access! I originally worried about pickpockets with the open top, but I carry it crossbodfy if I am in a crowd- no problems so far!

If I am casual to smart-casual, workwear, I will go for the bolide. It has a more polished look- works with skirts, day dresses, etc. the zipper is a plus if I am concerned about security or if it is raining. It's a bit roomier than the Evelyne...

They are both great bags. I love the Evelyne more than I imagined, and I often have to force myself to change to a different style just to mix things up a bit. I prefer neutrals, so I tend to play it safe regardless of bag style.

After dismissing the Evelyn bag for years, and only collecting Kelly and birkin bags, I have to say that I've become a huge fan!!
Only in PM and only in clemence leather.
This bag goes with me everywhere. Even on hikes.
It's s wonderful messenger bag and I can't wait to purchase another one.

I love my [ Gold PM Clemence] Evelyne and it's place in my collection is near the top.
What do people conceive as casual? If you're out to dinner or a drinks party it's not right , nor for smart officey wear.
I see it as a perfect bag for a lunch out, gallery visit , concert going etc . It does look fab with a edgy jacket and jeans ensemble.
The rest of my collection I wear as casual as possible anyway ; Kelly, Plume, Barenia and Toile Garden Party, and Trim .
I always thought the Bolide was very formal looking until I saw a friend's Bolides , and I can see that's a versatile bag . I'd say the same about an Evelyne , though in a different way . It's a striding out confident bag IMO …oh…in Clemence of course!

Hi OP, glad you are going for it! I NEVER liked the Evelyne because of the H logo - then I was told in Paris that the intended way was to wear it logo in, pocket out. I now love my Evie SO much. Here's why:

Easy crossbody with a wide strap (which H will shorten for you if needed) - plus then you have an extra strap for other bags. I agree with Monceau that theBolide is too wide at the base to wear crossbody, plus for me the Bolide handles bump into parts of me that don't like bumping ;)
One of very few H bags with an exterior pocket. Like most of us, I like to be able to grab my phone and a few other things without undoing even one Kelly turnlock.
Great for running around with kids/dogs. I'm sorry, I can't put dog bags in a Kelly, I just can't :p and if I have to grab at a stroller or a pulling pup on the pavement while wearing a K, the K will likely hit the sidewalk.
Under the radar with logo turned in - works everywhere a classic messenger will. I've had so many compliments on my Evie from people who had no idea what it was. I carry this bag without considering the "iconic" implications of a B or K or even a Bolide or Chanel flap.
INDESTRUCTIBLE. In Clemence this is a great workhorse bag. No matter how many Bs/Ks you have, you probably feel a bit careful with them - this bag has no formed corners to scuff and Clemence is SO tough (I do NOT like Epsom in an Evelyne).

On colors - I'd say gold or black/bleu nuit/bleu saphir/indigo. Preferably both, dark and gold, as it does not sound like price is an issue. Have fun with your Evie!!

I'm enjoying these opinions ! I am curious about why Epsom doesn't seem that desirable in an Evelyne? My assumption is that it's because it is stiffer because I believe it is a durable and lightweight leather? I'm wanting one too! I had a Clemence GM but sold it because I found it too heavy. I'm stalking the Hermes website for an Epsom in a color I love, but this thread is making me wonder!

Epsom yields beautiful colors and is lightweight but the stiff nature of the leather doesn't allow it to sit as comfortably against your body.
People tend to have fairly strong opinions about Epsom ( myself included).
Clemence is just more yummy.

I am back at this forum after being away for five years and am impressed with how helpful everyone is!
Thank you! I told my SA that I will be coming in tomorrow morning so I will post some pics if I find a color I like!

@BagLovingMom
Personally, Epsom is my least favorite, as it doens't age very gracefully. I have one kelly in epsom which I usually would have declined but had to take because it was in the color/size/hw that I had been looking for for years. I don't get to use it as often because I feel like the crease on top of the kelly buckle is getting deeper and deeper everytime i open and close the bag.
I am not sure when you had bought your last clemence evelyne but I definitely do find the new clemence to be much much lighter and thinner than before, probably from around 2012ish.

well dear, glad to hear you got good advice!! I am with you on the convenient cross-body option - I am about to have my fifth and my 1.5 year old also needs carrying etc, so I am working on getting a Trim to be cross-body. (I have this random need that every bag I own should work with kids and for work which is totally unreasonable of course but it is the only way I can justify buying them :))
Clemence is my absolute favourite leather, so incredibly hard wearing, so good call on that. while I love Etain, it does not love me back - so my choice would be black or gold ;). I also live in all year summer climate and I feel like gold totally suits that kind of weather.

I say go for it!
It sits nicely on your shoulders, wraps perfectly around your body and seems practically indestructible. Mine is in Gold (GM) and it's quickly become the only bag that I like to carry. I've got two little ones under two, and I know that it's going to be the only bag I'll carry for a long time.

I have to second QuelleFromage regarding complements. Interestingly enough, I receive more genuine compliments about the Evelyne than any other bag- people don't recognize it as Hermes, but they instinctively know it's a great bag.
