So...
In my early days of collecting H bags, I would have never considered an evelyne. Today I went into a boutique, looking to order a long canvas strap for my kellys and bolides. And then it occurred to me that I might be able to use the evelyne strap for my bolides. So I asked to try on some of the evelyne straps onto my bolide, and in doing so, came to try on the evelyne on for the first time. And I must admit that I fell in love. The soft bag hung so close to my body and the crossbody canvas strap gave good rest to my tired shoulders! I didn't want to make a decision in haste so I left the store but I keep thinking about the bag!

So if you were me, would you consider getting an evelyne? I have about 20+ birkins and kellys in different sizes. However, my favorite is my gold bolide 31 which I find so comfy. I don't do too well with bright colors - electric blue, feu and rose lipstick are some of my bags that I tend not to use so often. My most used bags are gold, havanne and brique in either a smaller kelly or bolide. But I find myself gravitating towards the amazone orange poppy evelyne, amazone blue saint cyr, and the blue hydra evelyne.
1) Should I get an evelyne? Evelyne users out there, please let me know what the pros and cons are. Especially in comparison to a bolide. 2) If you have similar taste in color as me, and if you have an evelyne, would you recommend getting a neutral color or any of the bright colors above?

Thank you so much for your help!!

From someone who had 4 Evelynes, and sold them all, I wouldn't get an Evelyne if you already have Bolides and Kellys. I have a few Kellys and one Bolide 35/37. My colors are black, navy, green, and Etrusque, and Noisette.
For ease and classic style that can be crossbody, you have the Bolide and Kelly. I used the Evelynes when my kids were really young, but find it too casual now. Your Bolide serves the hands free and easy in and out that the Evelyne does, while being able to close it with the zipper, which you can't do with the Evelyne. Just order an Amazone strap for your Kellys/Bolide if you like the strap. Good luck

What a helpful reply!! Thank you so much! That woke me a up a bit!

like marbella I have bought and sold in total 3 evelynes. yes I love how it molds to the body but that is just about it in my case (sorry to Evie lovers, I get it but it is not for me). I feel the bag is overall too casual for me. I also briefly had a bolide 35 but it does not suit my style at all.
the strap in combination with the overall casual style of the bag was just too casual for me, but a canvas strap with a kelly would be amazing :). (need kelly and strap first LOL). I would also consider what you need it for, as it does look odd when stuffed too full IMHO.

Yes, definitely clemence, not epsom!
And all the colors you listed are my favorites...
Of course you should.
A 29 in a neutral color, like bagidiotic wrote, would be perfect.
But I'm surely not a good advice giver : I LOVE the Evelyne which suits very well my lifestyle.
Another thing to think about : what's the price of the strap alone ? And I don't know if it's easy to get the strap alone. Then you have to see if you want to pay more and have a "full" bag.
Good luck with your decision and tell us what you'll decide. Have a nice day.

I only had 'formal' bags until I bought a GP. I never thought I'd like it but I love it, it's also got me thinking about an Evie. Even though Hermes do fabulous 'proper', more formal bags, don't dismiss the more chuck-about models either, they are revelation. I think it's great to have a great bag for all occasions and I plan to take my Evie out hill walking and urban exploring, something I'd probably never do with any of my other H bags.

I have 2 tpm Evelyn's that I use with my young kids and travelling when I don't plan on putting the bag down (I.e. Yesterday was at a backyard BBQ with kids and worn eve whole time while playing with kids and sitting down to eat). I am thinking of getting a pm Evelyn but I am also unsure when I would use since I feel like I would just use a Kelly for that size of bag - I use my k/b all the time with kids and travel with them too. Probably depends on your style and lifestyle. Not sure I am helping here since I am on the fence too....just a few thoughts.

I'm in the same boat. Lots of K/B and clutches but now thinking about getting an Evy PM cuz I walk my dog with a plain black Chanel messenger, which I love cuz it's understated and I don't care if it gets damaged. Decisions, decisions...

Funny you should say this because I think the Evie is a perfect dog-walking bag! My stuff goes in the main compartment, and my dog's treats (in a ziplock bag), poop bags and collapsible water dish go in the outside pocket for easy access. When I'm not with the dog, my phone and keys often go in the outside pocket. I wear it with the perforated H against my body, because it's more understated, but even more because it makes the outside pocket so easy to reach into. The bag is pretty light and the canvas strap makes it comfortable -- in fact, the most comfortable bag I own.

To the OP, I'll say you really can't compare the Evie to the Bolide, Kelly or Birkin. It's just a totally different animal. It doesn't have the stylistic diversity some of the other bags have -- IMO, the Evie is strictly casual, where the Bolide and others can be dressed up or casual depending on the situation. But the Evelyne is possibly the most carefree H bag (maybe along with the Pico, although even that bag doesn't have a crossbody option), and is one of my most carefree bags, period. I have 2 Kellys but my Evelynes and GPs get more use, TBH.

After dismissing the Evelyn bag for years, and only collecting Kelly and birkin bags, I have to say that I've become a huge fan!!
Only in PM and only in clemence leather.
This bag goes with me everywhere. Even on hikes.
It's s wonderful messenger bag and I can't wait to purchase another one.

I love my [ Gold PM Clemence] Evelyne and it's place in my collection is near the top.
What do people conceive as casual? If you're out to dinner or a drinks party it's not right , nor for smart officey wear.
I see it as a perfect bag for a lunch out, gallery visit , concert going etc . It does look fab with a edgy jacket and jeans ensemble.
The rest of my collection I wear as casual as possible anyway ; Kelly, Plume, Barenia and Toile Garden Party, and Trim .
I always thought the Bolide was very formal looking until I saw a friend's Bolides , and I can see that's a versatile bag . I'd say the same about an Evelyne , though in a different way . It's a striding out confident bag IMO …oh…in Clemence of course!

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful inputs! After reading through all your replies, I am definitely going to go for one. I have three kids and when I am out with my youngest who is three years old, I never really get to carry a birkin, as she constantly wants to be carried. So my go-to bags are kellys or bolides but even kellys can be a hassle to open and close.

catsinthebag - it's a great idea to wear it with the pocket on the outside. I never really liked the H logo :p

I also like the fact that the evelyne is flat and that I could pack it in my luggage. I usually carry a bolide when I am traveling, then have a big carry on bag with a clutch inside a kelly 28 inside a birkin 30. So I think I will enjoy the fact that the evelyne could be inside the check-in bag.

I was initially thinking about getting a more casual and fun color - like a blue hydra or an orange poppy- but after reading all of your posts, I think I should go for a neutral color. Any recommendation for a neutral color? I live in year-round hot climate so I am in shorts a lot. I am thinking that black or navy may be too heavy looking for the weather. My favorite is gold but I already have a bolide and a birkin in gold. But if I get a gold evelyne, I could probably use the gold canvas strap on the gold bolide too... I am not a big etoupe fan... Which color bolide have you found very versatile in the summer?

Thank you again!
