^Ah, so that means if you are buying stones lesser than a certain size it doesn't really matter if they are industrial grade diamonds, if it sparkles and it's pretty you're good to go? Interesting.

Never once did "Industrial grade diamonds" enter my posts. I don't even know what these are, except that maybe there are some industries that require the hardness of diamonds for production. (?).

If you know diamond jewelry in any capacity, you know where to spend money and where to consider the alternatives, i.e., combinations of the 4 c's which on paper may not amount to "awesome", but can compensate enough to stand on their own. This usually translates to smaller stones.

I'm no expert but have had my share of diamonds over the years and I always was under the impression that the quality of the diamond was key in the ability of it to reflect light and sparkle. If the diamond has visible flaws or undesirable color, etc. then it won't be very pretty or sparkly. The diamonds in my earrings are what I call "crisp" .. not a technical term LOL but they are white and clear and I can't imagine industrial grade diamonds being this pretty.

I think I got a little paranoid in my post a few posts above this where I was worried about the diamonds. It's easy to get caught up in the situation ...

Who wouldn't?? Just today, when I opened the drawer where the pearls were that I purchased from Elana, I picked them up and "bit" them. Some cliche about making sure they're real. :D

I have to agree with Winston in that if people received the items they paid for and were happy with them, then there's no point in worrying about them now. Be happy with what you received and certainly don't stop wearing them just because it turned out some other people weren't as fortunate (since some are saying the items are tainted for them now). Wear the items you obviously enjoyed enough to spend good money on, it would just be sad to leave them sitting in a drawer.

Has anyone given any thought to the fact that if these "diamonds" are so sparkly or sparkle like crazy, maybe they're actually CUBIC ZIRCONIAS???

CZ's are relatively inexpensive when ordered in bulk.

CZ's??? Really??????

There is no way Elana calculated this type of fraud. She was a true jeweler. Not to mention, the people on this board are quite savvy. I think any thing of this sort would have been noticed a lot sooner.

Some of us have had the items professionally appraised, no cubic zirconias, pleazzzzzzze.

But I feel strongly enough to post further.,
When you have some posters on a thread as sensitive as this, who are brand new members of the forum, and post on this thread, and at the same time
make statements elsewhere, such as the one I am actually copying and pasting, below, it is obvious, at least to me, that in some cases, the true intent of some posters is not to help in any way but to sensationalize........and, lets face it, a thread such as this sells..............,and here is the exact copy, Viral use of the web.

The other forum just banned her recently. But they used to share profit made off of that forum's selling by Elana, read from another xxxxxx xxxxx.Of course, all the links and pages related to Elana are now deleted from the forum that she posted as Japster.

So tell me.......can you tell the difference in a piece of costume jewellery that uses a diamond vs cubic zirconia??

Many "savvy" people on this board were unwillingly and unknowingly taken for a ride.

And how are you so certain that she didn't calculate this type of fraud?

Btw.....I use CZ's in my glass art/jewellery designs ALL the time. Unless a client ships me their loose diamonds which has happened on occasion.

I mix CZ w/ pearls, crystals......I dare you to tell the difference!

Oh, yikes! What a thought! I don't think they are CZs. I got them over a year ago and at that time and at the "place" she was selling them I just don't think she would have risked the tPF embarrassment of doing that. I could be wrong but that's my take on it.

About 15 years ago I remember getting some sort of CZ item from QVC .. I honestly can't remember if it was solitaire stud earrings or what it was but the one thing I remember about the experience was that the CZ's got cloudy after a short time. They probably could have cleaned up OK .. I don't know but I have never ever seen diamonds look like that.

I'm going to get the earrings appraised when I can find the time to do so. Of course I'll report back here but it might be a while as I am not sure when I can get to it. I may try to just stop in at the jewelers soon, just to have them take a quick look. I don't want to leave them right now as I have some holiday parties coming up and want to wear them!;)

You forgot to highlight this in blue.

I really don't appreciate your sarcasm btw...it's becoming tiring.

Yes, absolutely, I can tell the difference between CZ's and real diamonds. So can a majority of members here. What is becoming really tiring are the futile attemps to make more of this than what already exists.

If you are dealing with a medium that can go either way, perhaps it's your clientle that cannot tell the difference. Hopefully, you disclose to them when the stones you set are, in fact, CZ's. Elana never made this type of allowance. And regardless of your speculation, this was not her thing.

^I'm not saying anything about Elana's stones per se, but how can YOU be SO sure about what was Elana's thing re: her business, her merchandise etc and what wasn't?

You may be sure about the transactions she did with you, the merchandise she exchanged with you and the correspondence she had with you, but how can you speak for every other person's transactions and every other person's merchandise that they purchased from Elana?

An expert such as yourself...........yet placing pearls between your teeth.

Interesting......or was that a bad joke?

This is not about me and my transactions. I am simply trying not to feed the hysteria about the possibility of CZ's. How do you know, that she took the time and effort to set CZ's to pass off as diamonds? Most of those who posted about transactions have had their pieces checked. Never once did the subject of CZ's come up until someone decided to start this fire.
