To me, I always always put things on hold so I can sleep on it, unless it's something I ordered specifically of course. I do change my mind from time to time. When I still pining for it after a week, I go and buy it.

I am at a stage that I am fairly content with my collection and I find less less times I absolutely have to have to something. A lot more difficult to find things to fill that "gap" in my wardrobe. I think this helps a lot.

Thank you all for the amazing tactics/ideas! I'm going to implement tactics below to help curb my H enthusiasm--little steps at a time and will see if this helps at least for now.

1. Make a wish list per quarter and stick with it. Don't buy anything not on the list. Consider special occasions like birthday and anniversary and plan ahead. No running out before the special day wondering what I should get.
2. Set a shopping budget for all items (H, clothes, shoes, jewelry) per quarter. If limit is reached, then have to wait until next quarter. Unless offered a B, hehehe.
3. No shopping online--H.com, resellers or ebay. Can browse but can't buy unless an item is on my wish list and at a mark up of no more than 10%. But definitely no buying bags online. Got to try on in person only.
4. Go to the H store only if looking for a specific item on the list. No 'just browsing'. If they don't have the item, move on.
5. Don't tell SA my wish list. Enjoy the journey and the discovery!
6. No tPF more than 15 minutes per day. (This is going to be hard! What will I do at work now?)
7. If offered an item at the boutique that's not on the list but it's very nice, sleep on it for 24 hours, better yet 48 hours. Keep the budget in mind and make sure it doesn't look anything remotely like what I already own.
8. Don't buy an item because it's on sale, unless it's on the list. And don't say to self that it can be used as a Christmas/birthday gift for family member. I know I horde!
9. Don't get rid of clothes and shoes in the closet to make room for a new bag. If purchase a new bag, one existing bag (H or non-H) gotta go.
10. Commit to using each H item at least once every 2 months. If an item has not been used in 2 years, let it go.

While hopefully these tactics will keep me on track, I know I'm going to be in big trouble next month as I'm going to Hawaii and they have 2 fabulous H boutiques there. They're my favorite stores--I consider them my local H boutiques. My favorite SA is at the Ala Moana store. My goal is to to buy no more than 2 F/W shawls and 2 90 silks but god helps me if she shows me any "special" bag. Then I won't have any willpower. Any suggestions are welcome!

May be I'll implement #1 & #2 after my trip. :p

Hehe.....I didn't set foot in H for exactly one month. I really need to stop going there!

Saw the Rose Jaipur B35 you posted. The beauty is totally worth escaping the ban island for!

Thank you! This only extends my time being on the ban island. Every time I go to the store I walk out with something. I need to learn some skills of how to say no to my SA without hurting the relationship....

For me, add the internet too! Yesterday I saw a Kelly Lakis, but of course in 35, and I almost ran out of ban island! I am on a 6-month ban. I already think the Kelly 32s I have are too big for me, but those darn-convenient pockets were so tempting. I thought I'd sell all my Evelynes and replace it with the Lakis, but a 35 is like luggage on me, and my back suffers, so I stopped and gave myself 20 minutes and luckily, the urge to buy went away:graucho:

I hear you, Marbella. I like Lakis too, and I also know that the bag is way too big for me. I'm not on the Ban island yet but I think I should; considering I went wild last year. If I buy one more H bag, I would be on Ban island for years:p if not forever.

Thank you so much, FabFashion, for starting this thread. I learn so much from you and all tpf members and now I know that I'm not only one who feel the pinch of guilt for spending too much on H. Now I am running out of closet space too. The stock markets have been bad lately and I also notice Hermes bags on reseller sites have been not selling fast like last year.

Ok, how I implement self control when it comes to H?

I made the list of what I have on hand and when I bought them.

When feel the urge to buy a new H bag; I would look at my list and realize that I already have too many bags. I also try to sell bags which I rarely use to fund new bags. Normally, this is good strategy and my DH supports it. He is from the long line of engineer family so he is very logical but never ask how much I paid for any of my stuffs. I told him yesterday the story I read as a child about a little bird who has lost the most valuable thing in his life, his family, because he has no self control. While finishing my story, I was thinking of myself and Hermes, and I realized that I'm no better than that little bird in my story.

This is an old thread but it is an valuable one. I myself will visit this thread regularly and tell myself to slow down and think sensibly. Thank you again everone:smile1:

I went back and saw that the Lakis sold, phew, love it when temptation is bought by someone else.

The way for me to keep from buying has been to sell, and as I sell bags, I realize I don't use what I have, and don't miss what I have sold. When I lived in Europe a few years ago for a year, I had 1/10th or less of my clothes and didn't even use 1/2 of the small amount I had taken with me.

So, I think I will keep revisiting this thread and reminding myself to use what I have, keep circulating the already-too many bags I own, and sell what I don't use or haven't in the last-1.5 years (so much I don't use, I feel so guilty), and then consider if I need anything. On that note, I should go over to the Marketplace and list :)

I stay away from the stores and keep my handbags on display so I remind myself constantly that I don't need anything else in my collection. If I see something I want, I ask myself do I really need it and wait two days to see if I am really wanting it or is it impulse buying. Also I payoff other purchases first before making a new purchase.
