Selling Chanel for Hermes

I would personally keep the classic and sell the 19! The 19 is still really trendy right now but if you know you will fall out of love with it in 5 years then it might be a better idea to sell it now while you can still get most of your money back for it. I also moved from purchasing Chanel to Hermes and once you start going the Hermes route it’s hard to go back to Chanel. I sold most of my wocs and one or two trendier pieces since I never reach for those anymore but kept my mini and small classic flap, and I don’t regret my decision. I’ll still buy Chanel once in awhile but only if I am really absolutely in love with the item. If you are confident that your SA or store boutique can pull through at hermes with little prespend then I would make the switch but keep the classic flaps since those are harder to find/ are constantly increasing in price so might be harder to buy back again if you regret selling it in the future. Just remember that most people think they’ll stop at 1 Kelly or 1 Birkin but it’s really hard to stop and you’ll probably want another after getting your first :amuse:
Thank you for your advice. I’ve only just seen your comment. What are your thoughts on me selling the Trendy instead of the 19? I use my 19 more but totally agree that it’s a trend bag that I could get sick of in a few years. Do you regard the Trendy as more of a classic bag that’s worth keeping? I love it so much but am really put off by its delicate nature so I hardly use it.

I might be in the minority here but I think sell both the 19 and the trendy, keep the classic and buy a Kelly.

The trendy and 19 will date IMO - the classic is definitely worth keeping for the reasons everyone mentioned above

I find the Kelly incredible - it goes with everything, the long strap is very functional and (leather dependent) its incredibly resilient. Its a forever classic which will never date and I never get tired of mine. I still love Chanel classic flaps but 6 days out of 7 in the week I will select an Hermes bag and my Kellys are the ones I reach for the most.

Of course this all depends on your personal style and taste but you're already gravitating towards it

i personally think the 19 will go out of style first, but if you don’t reach for the trendy cc then it might be a good idea to sell that one too. You will get more money for it now then you will a few years from now. So something to consider if the Hermes Kelly is your main goal. You can save that money aside and use that for the Kelly once you get offered it from the store. Just make sure you don’t go to an SA that will take advantage of you. :amuse: Since you are not in a rush, I would just do this. Also make sure you want the 28 size and not the 25! I personally prefer the 25 because I don’t carry a lot of things, so I regret my Kelly 28 purchase. But if you like larger bags then stick with the 28. Also it’s good to keep a few casual bags in your collection too since I feel the Kelly you probably wouldn’t use daily!

I didn’t rehome my one and only 19 to fund Hermes purchases but because I was already finding that I didn’t reach for it as much. I was getting tired of the look and the bold chains. I vote keep the Trendy and the CF.

Agree with this
My first ever H bag was k28 retourne as I thought this size would be perfect but since then I’ve only bought 25 sellier as the 28 is far too big for me

Depends on your style but 28 size is quite large

If you are confident that your SA or store boutique can pull through at hermes with little prespend
This is really not easy. I have a good relationship with my SA at a major flagship and, during the leather drought that was this past summer, I ended up 5X prespend by the time my SA got the perfect 25B (Gold sellier Birkin 25) for me. Other TPFers also reported this kind of prespend For a B25 (a k25 is easier) The fact is, you may have the best relationship with your SA, but at the end of the day, the SM makes the decision among a group of eager clients. A 28K/30B is much easier (probably 2X), but if you are set upon the boutique route, it’s rare to get what you want with little prespend.

Lottery in Paris is becoming one of the few ways to get a BKC with little prespend, but current reports on the Paris thread are not encouraging.

I was at the same position as you! I wanted to sell my Chanels and other designer bags and move to Hermes. I think it benefits me to downsize my collection and to get my dream bag the B25 black w ghw. So I sold the 19, Trendy, mini CCH, mini reissue etc that I wasn’t using and okay to let go. I was also thinking of selling my CF as well but I couldn’t do it I know I would most likely have sellers remorse and a classic flap really completes one’s handbag collection, (for us handbag lovers). I really adore Hermes and love their leather quality, I have tried my luck at my local store but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Let’s just say I don’t have the luck and the patient or enough fund to play the game. So I ended up getting some bags from the Hermes website which I’m really happy about, more practical and fits my lifestyle (they costed more than from what I sold,of course) . My conclusion is I think I’m still not ready for the game, both mentally and financially. I like the brand but I not willing to play the game no more (if that makes sense). And I sometimes feel I don’t really love the b25, I just wanted it because of social media, influencers, and the exclusivity the brand built around those bags, it’s not that practical, gets heavy, etc. So you have to really be prepared to dump that kind of money and make sure you really love it and it fits your life style. And start saving! Good luck !

Out of curiousity, do you prefer the mini or the woc? have you kept any wocs?

I’m at the stage where I dreamt of having one every other day. I owned more than a dozen of Chanel but I can’t let go any of it. so I saved up for a birkin, gotten it and realised its such a plain square bag with no details on it not like the classic flap, the excitement and thrill I get from Chanel. sold that off and still thinks I need a Hermes because that’s the only path to go. Went Europe tried my luck but it was fashion week and dealt with very proud SA asking me to go back to my own country instead to get one. Come to realization: I just want it for the chase, for the rationale of it but don’t really love it nor is there any addiction or enchantment towards it not like Chanel for Madame Coco’s approval :yucky::heart::biggrin:

I did this, sold ALL of my (collection upon to 20 at the height) chanel bags and went down the Hermes path in 2020. Now, bs and ks later, I have to say my eyes have wandered back over to Chanel. I caved and bought a WOC, I'm suddenly reminded why I sold the bags in the first place.

I have to admit, I should have kept at least one classic flap in my collection for longer because Hermes clutches are so damn hard to come by... LOL
