Sell at a huge loss or keep and never use!

And even within the big brands like Chanel and Hermes, there are factors to whether they keep their value. Color, material, condition, age all play a role in it.

So unless you can predict what will remain coveted and manage to maintain your bag as pristine as possible, the resale value can fluctuate. Though if you can predict the future, perhaps lotto numbers would be better than handbag coveting.
:D

Perhaps you can give it to a friend or family member? Whenever I have something of worth that I no longer want, I would offer it to my family or friends. If no one wants it then I either donate or sell.
I've read many posts from people who would rather destroy or keep it unused than to give it a second life with some one who may want it.

My two cents opinion - Why keep when you don't use them? Very few luxury brands kept their true value nowadays except MAYBE chanel, Hermes and a few others. I am very realistic about my purchase and do not look at them as investments. :peace::smile1:

p/s: I have a brand new Chanel caviar wallet put away for years but it will be going to a consignment store today. AND I don't care what price they will quote me but I just want it out of my closet as I have come to realize I was a "slave in my thoughts" about not wanting to dirty it. :roflmfao:
Wow, I am flabbergasted. I could never contemplate selling a purse without considering the quote. I did not get my bag for fee, so I don't want to give it away, especially in like new condition. I am glad it works for you though. :smile1:

I can see how that bag wouldn't sell on eBay but would be absolutely adorable in person. It's the kind of bag most people would have to see "in action" and they drool over it. I'm glad you kept it.

YES! This! Over the past year I've sold (am selling off) 90% of my entire closet. I was tired of looking at things I didn't love. Now I have a closet of clothing, bags, etc. that I'm crazy over. It was hard to make some of the calls and many things sold for less than I would have liked. But after replacing them with beautiful things, I don't even think about the money.

So sell! Get something you love. The item is no longer new so bite the bullet, price it fairly and enjoy a new purchase.

Thanks, Sparkletastic, I'm glad you're a fan :). I love your username and your posts often make me crack up!

You are quite right that is unrealistic to expect bags to "hold" their value. There may have been a short window of opportunity when some people would pay premium to buy a discontinued or no longer available design, but I do believe that trend is now over. If you look at consignment stores or eBay they are full of second hand bags which do not sell unless very competively priced. ( which is good news if you buy pre owned) Even Chanel and Hermes are not immune from this. The lesson here is to buy things that we can actually use right now and not think about re sale...

That's true to an extent. From my experience, people will try to take advantage of sellers, especial consignment stores, if sellers do not consider the price. I believe price reasonably but be no fool. If people will accept anything for their purse, then sellers are playing race to the bottom.

Yes I just gave away 7 bags in hope it will make some women feel special and give a bit of confidence-the bags were all in nice condition -some rarely used, and now I have room. I am not one to sell things so giving away to an honest charity felt good.
My iPad is screwing up sorry for double posting

That's awesome!

No worries about the double posting. :)

What a lovely gesture! I think re selling clothes or bags is just so difficult now anyway. Basically cheap fast fashion has pretty much killed the second hand clothing industry.

Well I posted about my never using my BV veneta and had great replies about the brand in general so thanks to all.
Now I ask for your further advice -
In my heart I know I won't use some bags and I know that their resale is low so do I still sell at a big loss or do I keep even though I won't use?
What would you do?

I have accepted that not everyone values my bags as much as I do, so i just bite the bullet and sell them. Better to have cash in hand, than a bag sitting in my closet that I will never use. I generally do not purchase items thinking about what their resale value will be-I buy what I like and when I tire of it, I feel fortunate that I can get a little something by selling it. I will also give neglected bags away rather than see them unworn.

Another option is to donate it to a battered women's shelter or a home where very young pregnant women who have no family are living. These women are often in need of appropriate clothing and accessories for job interviews.

I like your option. I wouldn't sell a bag that I never use at a huge loss nor keep and never use. Instead I would just donate it to someone who really needs a bag more than I do.

I never sell any bag yet because I hate the though of losing $$ so I kept all bags even though there r a few that I've not use for years. But lately I have decided to sell a few. My walk in closet need room for new bags!

For me, selling is such a hassle. If a bag sits long enough in my closet I will either offer it to friends/family or give it to charity. I like the idea of making someone as happy about having a bag as I was when I bought it.

BV is a great, timeless brand. Are you sure you won't decide that you want to wear it down the road? If you are positive then I would sell/give it away, but if there is that chance then I would keep it. You might lose some money by selling it, but you will lose even more if you decide to buy a new BV bag like your old one (bc of price increases, etc.)
