Sell at a huge loss or keep and never use!

Sell, of course. If you'll at least use the bag occasionally, then keep, but otherwise it doesn't seem to make much sense to have money just sitting in the closet. Clear it out and use the funds for something you'll enjoy!

If I have a purse or wallet that I know I will never use again, I keep it until (once a year) the building I work in has a drive to collect items for abused/welfare women to outfit them for job interviews.

Other than my LV I've never had anything worth the hassle of selling (a $300 Coach or MK goes for next to nothing on eBay) so I'd rather help out someone who needs it.

One time I gave them an almost new Coach (I'd had it for several years but only used it a few times because it just didn't work for my needs). I'm sure someone was thrilled to get it even though it was out of style, and it freed up space in my closet to buy something I'd actually use.

Well I posted about my never using my BV veneta and had great replies about the brand in general so thanks to all.
Now I ask for your further advice -
In my heart I know I won't use some bags and I know that their resale is low so do I still sell at a big loss or do I keep even though I won't use?
What would you do?

My two cents opinion - Why keep when you don't use them? Very few luxury brands kept their true value nowadays except MAYBE chanel, Hermes and a few others. I am very realistic about my purchase and do not look at them as investments. :peace::smile1:

p/s: I have a brand new Chanel caviar wallet put away for years but it will be going to a consignment store today. AND I don't care what price they will quote me but I just want it out of my closet as I have come to realize I was a "slave in my thoughts" about not wanting to dirty it. :roflmfao:

Yes I just gave away 7 bags in hope it will make some women feel special and give a bit of confidence-the bags were all in nice condition -some rarely used, and now I have room. I am not one to sell things so giving away to an honest charity felt good.
My iPad is screwing up sorry for double posting

Where do you donate your bags?

Another thing to keep in mind is that leather degrades over time whether it is used or not, so if you just put it in the attic or back of your closet, in a few years time it will be worth even less.

After doing some research on where and what they do with the money and those who come in to buy at a very small price, I chose Salvation Army.

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, I won't ever be donating to the Salvation Army because of its history and lobbying against LGBT rights and its religious affiliation (which spurred many political activities to restrict abortion and invite government censorship).

Sell! I recently did a huge purge of my closet and got rid of everything from handbags to clothing. I lost money on a lot of items, but it was worth it in the end. When I look at my closet, I only have items that I enjoy wearing. Plus, I now no longer feel guilty because I don't look and see items that I spent a lot of money on and didn't wear. I also used it as a learning experience and I now really think about each and every item I purchase.

And even within the big brands like Chanel and Hermes, there are factors to whether they keep their value. Color, material, condition, age all play a role in it.

So unless you can predict what will remain coveted and manage to maintain your bag as pristine as possible, the resale value can fluctuate. Though if you can predict the future, perhaps lotto numbers would be better than handbag coveting.

i have few bags i sell at lost because i don;t use them as much, i did a lot of thinking before selling them because the money i lost but when i sold them and use the fund to buy something else i love and use more it felt so much better.
it's better to lose 1000$ than having a 2000$ sitting prop in my closet

It depends on your personality. Several of my bags go on a rest period only to be brought out years later but if you know there's no hope of rekindling why you fell in love then best to sell or give away.

Have you thought of doing a 'one last trip' with each? Sometimes actually using a bag again can make me wonder why I ever doubted it.

I do this with mine and often think that I am fed up with a bag but then like them again especially when people comment on them.

If you are definitely not going to use a bag then Im all for selling it to someone who will love it.

+1. I recently decided to give a bag I hadn't used in a long time another go, after I'd tried and failed to sell it on eBay multiple times. Turns out, I love it. It is unusual, and wasn't the most rational purchase from a resale value perspective, but I love that I have something really unique and I've received a ton of compliments on it. This is it, by the way. It goes great with jeans, and is also a fun summer night out bag. It's surprisingly versatile, and it makes me smile :). http://www.popsugar.co.uk/fashion/p...rgiela-Python-Print-Leather-Shoulder-Bag-1135

I can see how that bag wouldn't sell on eBay but would be absolutely adorable in person. It's the kind of bag most people would have to see "in action" and they drool over it. I'm glad you kept it.

YES! This! Over the past year I've sold (am selling off) 90% of my entire closet. I was tired of looking at things I didn't love. Now I have a closet of clothing, bags, etc. that I'm crazy over. It was hard to make some of the calls and many things sold for less than I would have liked. But after replacing them with beautiful things, I don't even think about the money.

So sell! Get something you love. The item is no longer new so bite the bullet, price it fairly and enjoy a new purchase.
