I’m not sure, but it seems like real leather and nice quality based on the feel and weight. I would have to compare it to one in the store. Looks similar to the authentic ones I see online. Worth it for me for less than $10.
At my Goodwill Bins location, I noticed an employee going through a bin to pick out a few pairs of jeans... I think what you've experienced is becoming more common.
