Today I went with some friends to "The Bins". I had NEVER been before. My friend's neighbor goes all the time, so she took us. I found this wonderful pair of CYDWOQ sandals my size (looked them up on eBay, going for $175). Got a couple pairs of Lululemon leggings and 3 cute shirts. Paid less than $6 for all of it. I'm pretty beat now, but it was fun

Would you go again?

What are the bins?

I was gonna ask that
Goodwill clearance stores. They put everything that doesn't sell into these giant troughs. You have to dig through it. When I went, things were priced by the pound. It is pretty disgusting, smelly and grimy. You should wear gloves and a mask.

thanks...I don't think I have the stomach for that
as it is, I had seen something on the Internet about goodwill stuff possibly bringing bedbugs into your home. since the items are all mixed up, rather than from one source, I could see how this might be more likely to happen. I bought a RM bag from a Goodwlll auction and was paranoid about it.
But for those who like this and get the great deals, good for you

I can't stomach it either. I tried it a couple of times. I'm surprised by some of the great things some people find.

There are a lot of things I can't bring myself to buy from thrifts. I can't get over the ick factor. I won't buy shoes or clothes that I wear next to my body. I do have a few coats I bought from thrifts. I've heard you should never buy soft furnishings. Hard furniture is fine. I have a stand mixer I bought from a thrift. Even though I thoroughly cleaned it, it took a long time before I felt really comfortable using it.

I have been to the bins in Wilm, DE. Dirt cheap, piece of Waterford and Williamsburg pottery, a dog ramp and a chair to use a spare in my dining room.I call it the Donation Location.

when we were remodeling our home I bought some very nice rugs from Craigslist....you could see they came from nice homes and I love them. but not sure I'd do it now that I got the bedbug thing in my head

Clothing - at least you can bring it home and wash immediately. I went to donate stuff to a nice little local place and picked up a top there but for the most part the times I go into the thrift stores their prices aren't that good and I don't have the patience to go through all the racks

The Bins are Goodwill's "outlet". They put all the stuff into plastic bins (I thought they were gonna be deep, but they are shallow, so you are not diving in). There are lots of people there just digging through. They rotate them pretty quickly, so you can be there all day digging through bins of clothing. They also have shoes, purses, home goods...all the stuff you find at GW, just thrown in bins, not neatly organized.

Ours wasn't disgusting, smelly or grimy. I expected that it would be, but I didn't get grossed out once. It wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be.

At the one I went to, they bring new stuff out about every 2 hours. It looked like some people spend the day there. A bell rings, they push the empty bins out and bring new ones in. Then you dig through the new stuff and people go sit on the side to wait for new stuff. The big pieces like the chair and dog ramp had a price on them. The small stuff is sold by the pound. This was before Covid and I haven’t been back as it is about an hour away. I will try again if I am in the area though.
