Well, will try again.
Have seen Birkins on the shelf at VA H, not recently but over the last few years at least 3-4. And at least that many Kellys over the same time frame. And I don't go in all that often. When I can, I stop in. Love the store. Love the staff. They always seem busy and everyone seems friendly and kind.
Always think it is worth a visit to see the silks, RTW, home goods and of course the bags and SLGs.
Hermes sells more than just Birkins and Kellys.
TT, yes, I enjoy a store visit there too. The staff is friendly. They have tried to get what I wanted for the most part. The manager has tried to be responsive. I just want to get more stuff there and knowing what's available or could be made available is sometimes difficult. You are right, it's not all about birkins & kellys, it's about follow-through for smaller, less costly items that is what will keep me coming back to the store. As one example, I haven't seen the Marcelina yet but have expressed interest in it. I think the SA attitude may be that if I'm not clearly going to purchase it they will not follow-through. The SA's probably get a zillion requests to snag & hold particular scarves and I am just one of many.
It may also be that there is a limited amount of desirable inventory and they have to spread it among a bunch of customers so I get access to some things but not others. If that's the case, then I have to accept a certain amount of frustration from them. They are not a mass marketer, the prestige for their stuff is associated with scarcity. The SA's are probably trained to keep up the scarcity mystique, not make stuff too readily available. That is probably why I have never been initiated into the secret handshake! From reading tPF posts, I have learned to appreciate the extra access resellers provide, altho I haven't used one yet. When push comes to shove, using a reseller may be the solution.
