Spent a pleasant afternoon arranging my scarves!
First I labeled the drawers:

And then because I got worried about the plastic drawers, the light, and the silk - I lined the drawers with acid-free paper and made a small overhang to cover the sides of the scarves from light and dust.

I probably worry too much... [emoji12]

How do you all store your giant cashmeres in the warmer weather? I actually use them throughout the summer, but am willing to have less frequent access for the next few months to be sure they are moth free. Thanks!

I take them out of the boxes and store individually in 2 gallon ziplocs or IKEA's 6qt freezer bags, which hold a 140 perfectly. Great for travel as well.

If you prefer to keep them in the boxes, a 2.5 gallon ziploc works nicely.

OK, I feel better! They are in a giant ziplock bag that came with my new comforter! I tossed in a lavender sachet. Hope this works!

I use plastic bags all the time but ...
I snip off the corners of the bags , a tiny snip , just so the bag contents can breathe and any gasses can get out , plastic does outgas - makes vapors at least in theory
But do it for another reason too - humidity
Heck have friend who opened her sacred boîtes oranges to find mildew !
Venting is good

Thanks! Maybe I should poke holes in the comforter bag?
MILDEW??? Oooof.

Yes, holes, I have even been tempted - though have never done it - to poke a few holes in boxes
Everyone says they are acid proof and archival quality but... I have never seen that in writing from Hermes
And of course, any tissue in an ebay-purchased box is suspect - it may have been replaced
And scarves fit a lot tighter in boxes than purses , esp. the 140cm they sold me sold to me in a 90cm box - my dd & twill lave are folded weird - you have to fold them in thirds - not halves, I cannot do that... I do 2s not 3s ... They no longer live in boîtes oranges
I am not OCD about storing just wanting to minimize the chance of damage due to bad storage techniques eg sunlight, moisture. I long ago accepted the fact of storage folds

Thank you so much to everybody for posting all their great storage ideas here. I now have 23 scarves and it takes a while each morning to find the right one. I have just sorted my boxless vintage ones and need to tackle the others. I have used folded A3 acid-free archival box sleeves and punched holes along the bottom for air to get in. I have also punched two holes in the folded top and tied with some H ribbon to make the pockets prettier.. I will later add labels.IMG_20180116_172708.jpg

So I thought I would share my scarf storage solution here. I have been looking for a chest of drawers not too deep and not too shallow. I also wanted something that could house my collection for the rest of my entire life. I didn’t want to run out of capacity somewhere in my mid 50’s lol. And the insides of the drawers had to be a material that are silk & cashmere friendly and not snag or discolor my scarves.

Here’s what I finally decided on. A chest of drawers by Poltrona Frau called Piu Notte. It’s 48” wide and about 21” deep. The height of the entire chest is 30” high but each drawer is about 4.5” high which I think is about ideal to lay out scarves like they do at the boutique. The insides of the drawers are lined in linen and the drawers “soft close” so scarves don’t slide to the back. I have about 60-70 scarves/shawls and so far, only 1.5 drawers are filled and they are not stuffed. So by my estimation, I could prolly go to about 200 scarves (if needed) with this chest. Hopefully that will be my lifetime max lol.

You can choose from many different leather colors for the exterior. I chickened out and went with a light grey instead of something wild like purple or teal.

MYH, your storing challenge & solution is quite special.I do like the color you chose to store your shawls.
Very sophisticated looking..
Awwww...thank you. I’m thinking it’s a leather color that will stand the test of time. Hopefully it will. So far though, I’m most excited about the large capacity. Fingers crossed it can hold all my scarves/shawls forever.

Oh WOW!!
You already have received it! What a lovely and functional way to store your scarves. Was it hard to get rid of all the orange boxes? I am not sure that I even can....
Thanks for sharing. This is such a perfect way to store your silken treasures.
