Hi everyone. I think the latest kerfuffle has gone away, but it made me realize that not everyone may know about "subscribing to threads" (under thread tools at the top of the page).

I don't know how many people have been "scarf mistress" over the years (I did a year about a century ago) but we love this thread, and I love all the new people. This is my "home base" among 1000s of threads on this site. Thanks be to the hard-working mods!! (Please bear with me for just this post, and then I am working on today's photo).

Wow! Thanks for this! Can't wait to check out that "Storage" thread. I wonder if mistikat might be kind enough to move the few storage posts that started the recent kerfuffle over to that storage thread? That would be really nice and we could all just continue the discussion from there.

There are a few threads where general discussion happens pretty regularly and the original thread starters do not mind. Three that come immediately to mind are Rainneday's Ban Island thread, MYH's Scarf Showcase thread, and The Grail thread. Open discussion is welcome and encouraged on those in my experience.....

There is a post fakes thread, but it's not just for scarves. Believe it's under Shopping.

Just to clarify, we actually don't want a bunch of threads to turn into general chat and it's not a question of whether or not the original thread starters mind. Hermes is actually the exception in that we do have two separate chat threads: Chat, and the Cafe thread. So the fact that there are several scarf topics that have veered into chat/off topic discussions may be fun for the people participating, but it's also a deterrent to people who want to read about whatever it is that the thread title suggests will be discussed.

I realize that for a lot of you, this may seem ridiculous and anal ... but the forum is organized by threads and subforums so that people can search and find the specific information they want, read in it and contribute to it. That is also why some are photo only with no chat - because the chat detracted from the information being provided and made it harder to find. So at members' requests, they were made (or created) as photo only threads.

We also recognize that threads will go off topic and while that is ok for a little while as conversations ebb and flow, eventually we will get reports from other members asking that they go back on topic. Because that is what members should do (as we don't want them stepping in to moderate others or create situations that can lead to drama) moderators step in on their behalf.

The goal is not to stifle discussion - far from it. It is intended so that there is a basic order as to what is discussed where, to make it easier to find, to search, and in which to participate.

There are a lot of scarf threads and a while back, I suggested to the admins that we have a separate section within Hermes where all the scarf threads can be gathered. I am quite happy to gather them all up so that they are easy to find and participate in.

As for the storage posts, my recollection is that there were quite a few spanning several pages. I can move them on the weekend if that is the general consensus.

As this is an example of really off topic for this thread :D I encourage members who want to discuss it further to PM me so that I have a better idea of what is wanted. That feedback allows us to help give newcomers to the thread and long-time participants a good idea of what to expect, and how they can best participate.

Something happened to the storage link I posted, so we needed this!

I really like being helpful to our Silky friends by posting links rather than just saying "do a search." I am totally fine with this post, so if anyone questions whether it's appropriate, please PM Mistikat.

Please mark Jahna's post for reference and don't start an off-topic discussion about these threads. And for everyone's sanity, please try to thank Jahna via this edited post rather than quoting her list over and over!

Actually, please PM the moderators, as that is forum protocol. Members are free to question posts and ask the moderators to decide if they are or are not on topic. Or just report the post if there is any question. We ask that people please don't take on moderation on behalf of the forum.
