Maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet, or I am just feeling mean, but here is "another version" of Reveries Japanaise (and yes, I DO know all the rest of them, and this puzzle has been done before, many times, but fun, none the less. Seton not allowed to play)

Soleil de Soie is Caty Latham's version of the composite scarf we just did for Annie Faivre Week. Caty was originally on the SOTD theme schedule for 6 March, but I moved her to November in favor of moving Robert Dallet to an earlier place. He's the featured artist on the H website these days because of the Big Cats fundraiser. Jahna, I hope we can play the Caty game in November when she's our artist.

I'm okay with showing your scarf of the day, but I chose this year's themes based on member requests, so I hope they're of wide enough interest to encourage lots of sharing. Feel free to let me know (as you've been doing) if there are additional themes you think would be good for the future. And don't forget SCARF ON SITE for SOTD -- scarves that show places and activities that mirror where you are!

Dear silkies, for those of you who do not know the history of scarf of the day, it was started years ago by a lovely tpfer who encouraged people to post whatever silks they were were wearing that day. Themes were requested to make the thread more fun and to be able to share various designs that would also give us a chance to wear those designs more frequently. The thread encouraged diverse looks, knots and lifestyles. Misti and Abq thank you for reminding about the threads topic. I hope we can go back to having fun sharing our H silks!

Thank you, Lanit! A history lesson is always helpful.

Thanks for clarifying Lanit. Stupid question: sometimes I'm such an airhead. I wouldn't want to break the rules. Since its scarf of the day should it be a scarf we are actually wearing that day or is it ok by the rules to post all of our archival photos of scarves lying flat or worn that fit the theme? Thanks! I am still confused... We can ONLY post if it is exactly on this weeks topic?( according to mistikat this is what people want???)
Like PBP, I thought the themes were guidelines, but it was Ok to post a scarf you are actually wearing today...

I realize that we got off topic with the storage discussion but this is really going to be less fun if we rigidly stick to the theme. That has not been the case in recent memory. As I said sparklelisa encouraged posting what we were wearing so I thought it was ok.

I received PMs from members who felt that the discussion in this thread has really veered into more of a chat style format with everything from scarf storage to tying being discussed. I'm not trying to squash discussion or people's love of scarves, just trying to be mindful of what other scarf lovers have said was more in keeping with this thread and what they would like to see.

I think in general that people read the title of a thread and expect to see that reflected in the content. As Lanit has explained, this thread morphed over time to being more focused on a scarf of the day tied (no pun intended) to a specific theme. I don't think anyone wants to hammer rules all the time (I don`t for sure) but lengthy discussions about storage and other matters relating to scarves but not that pertinent to the thread topic have become something noticed by other scarf loving members. Who asked me to take a look. If the consensus is that it should be a general scarf discussion, I am happy to change the title and first post so that all members know what the thread is about.

Hope this clarifies!

Thanks mistikat and ABQ2ATL, for reminding us to (mostly, stick to a theme). I think that is why this thread has lasted for so many years. I see sparklelisab is now listed as the thread starter, but was proceeded by ? (I am sorry I've lost the name).

Is "scarf mistress" still in effect? You, ABQ2ATL?

Sorry for my post of "Soleil"; it has probably been overdone... Anyhow, I think the thread works fine as is.

Anyone have "Chaque Rencontre est Unique"? I have one, but no photograph yet. Would love, though, to see other CWs...

I think this has always been 'scarf of the day ,' and although the themes are fun and add focus I do feel that 'add' is exactly what the themes should do . It should remain a fun way of sharing what we are wearing each day if we so wish.
A more prescriptive approach was never the idea , and if it is now maybe we should have two separate threads, one for ad hoc posting of 'scarf of the day' and another for the themes run by a member.
I appreciate the time spent on organising themes by ABQ2ATL and do not wish to appear ungrateful . The themes are now much more prominent and detailed which can make fascinating reading , but in the end I'm interested in seeing whatever we are wearing and how.

Hmm, well I really don't see what the big deal is. It's perfectly enjoyable to go on a tangent once in a while and it should be fine to do so. Just as it is in real conversation. It's not like the thread permanently morphs. It always organically comes back to topic within a few posts. That is my opinion only, so I will try harder to stick by the rules.

Anyway...

On topic: PbP and scarf1, abq2atl (or perhaps it was our previous scarf mistress) has said in the past that it's fine to post an off topic scarf if that's your "scarf of the day". I know I've done it! While I enjoy the themes very much and find them fascinating and educational, many of us don't have a scarf to suit every topic, but we still want to share our beauties with others on the day we wear it. If this is wrong I'll be flummoxed, because I know I read that.

Very pretty; I'm a huge fan of the dip dyes. But is this one of the scarf of the day themed scarves? Really trying to keep people on topic as I've had requests from other members that this happen.

Thanks again for your understanding.
Sorry! :push: :sweatdrop:I'm relatively new and was under the impression that SOTD was either what you were actually wearing or related to the weekly theme and that sometimes, those 2 things intersect. Happy to correct myself!

Beautifully stated frou frou and Pirula. Do people think we should start a separate thread without themes to post modeling shots of what we are wearing and chat about scarves freely?

Sounds good to me :D as I said if the theme idea is now the raison d'être it makes sense to give some of us somewhere to share the scarves we actually wear.
