Hi ladies,

I've been a lurker here for a while, and today I have decided to share. I have a very small collection of H scarves - only 5 so far, and one is still en route to me - but I love the "Charmante aux Animaux" SO much that I have it in 2 cws! They both fit largely with separate parts of my wardrobe, so imagine my surprise to find they actually work TOGETHER....

Double Charmante aux Animaux are Gorgeous! I have Charmante aux Animaux in different cw, but only one.

I've been trying without much success to make two scarves work! Today I finally had some time to play, but it has been rainy and dark, so the colours are not looking quite right.

But here are:

Qalamdan + Ex Libris en Kimonos

and

L'Art d'Ecrire + Carnaval de Venise (both are navy and not at all black, as they appear)

Both are successful! I guarantee that Qalamdan + Ex Libris en Kimonos combo has oriental taste!

I'm glad you enjoyed it, cherryblossum! I believe that in most sectors of the U.S. business world "business fashion" has loosened up a bit, but I don't know about other countries, and I'm guessing that in certain professions (law, probably, and banking) things haven't changed much. I'm all for using fashion as rebellion, LOL!

Good question, cherryblossum! It was Lumières de Paris, by Natsuno Hidaka, a 2006 issue. I found it in a local consignment shop just a few months ago, at an incredibly good price, and fell in love with it. I honestly prefer the older designs to the newer ones (Lumières is something of an exception for me), so I've been hunting on all the trustworthy reseller websites ever since!

Here is the scarf that "brought me back"... I apologize that the picture is not very good. I am still learning how to take pictures of my collection. What I like about this scarf is that it reminds me of the stained glass windows you see in the old Paris churches.

I appreciate your kind response.I realize why you are finaly back to H scarves and why you came here! In this thread, both brand new scarves and oldies but goodies come and go!

BTW I have been looking up Natsuno Hidaka for a while, I believe she is a person from my country. I'd like to know more about her. Thank you in advance.

I love the braided twillies, dear Chestnutty!
Your new scarf is cute, but I wonder what your "punishment" is for cheating on H... so many temptations next time you walk into the boutique that you're unable to resist and walk out with a giant orange bag?:graucho::D

Oh dear, I had thought this day would never come but oddly recently I have not much interest in current season scarves. Not interested in any shawl this season except the one I already bought (black/white Zebra). The only boutique score recently (a few hours after the mentioned infinity scarf was bought) was a Pique Fleuri carré in a very Mediterranean colorway which took more than a year to grow on me (finally!). Meanwhile at the boutique, I did tempt a customer to buy more carré than she had planned, hahaha. I guess I'm an enabler at heart.

It's a lucky scarf! Do you know the symbolism of the hand? (I won't bother you with it if you do, but if you want more detail let me know and I'll explain. You might see in some of my photos that I wear a pendant with that same hand on it!)
I'd love to learn more about it. Bring it on my friend!

Welcome musicmom! :welcome2: wow! Just wow! Great pairing and awesome tying. I think you have a good eye for scarf combos.

I've been trying without much success to make two scarves work! Today I finally had some time to play, but it has been rainy and dark, so the colours are not looking quite right.

But here are:

and

L'Art d'Ecrire + Carnaval de Venise (both are navy and not at all black, as they appear)
Momasauras, you are definitely talented in the scarf combo dept. I think your two pics look fantastic. :woohoo::woohoo:

Red bridles squared - Quand Soudain and En Desordre.
Another beautiful pic and on theme contribution. Dang, we are a talented bunch! Love the two scarves you chose and how they work together.

I love the super modern look of your pairing, VespeSparrow

Thank you for the advice, birkinmary. I'm going to give it a try, though I'm not sure if I can get another picture in this week. Maybe Saturday. But I'll definitely try it in the future, especially in the winter, when a little extra warmth around the neck is helpful! :smile1:

The first knot is really easy to make, Elaine, as for the second one, I'll post a step by step later.

Oh! I had forgotten those little skinny neckties! I had a few of them... you could tie them like a men's mini-tie, or you could make them into a sort of bow. Lily Tomlin used to have a routine about women's business attire during that period that went something like this: "Your blouse is embellished with something that's sort of a bow, and sort of a ruffle, and sort of a collar... and it doesn't offend anyone, because you don't look good in it.":p

Good for you, for rebelling with shoes! They're a great way to stand out from the crowd (pun intended:p). My shoes were as boring as my suits; I standardized on Ferragamo pumps, with 2.5" heels... I had them in a variety of colors, to match my outfits. They were very pretty, and actually rather comfortable, but I certainly wouldn't call them "rebellious." Which brands did you like?

My budget was really thin those days, Elaine, and there wasn't a Web to browse either, but there was a local shoemaker who made amazingly chic styles, not very comfy but trendy enough, I remember a zebra printed pair that was quite stunning back then... 25 years ago! :p

2 color ways of the same design Les Becanes

Clever pairing of a classic design, essie, I love it!

Yes, I know... :graucho:

I know, I've trying to learn more about her, too... but I've hardly been able to find anything! A few tidbits: she has been designing for Hermès since 1982, according to one article I read. And this year's Rose de Compas pattern is one of her designs http://usa.hermes.com/la-maison-des-carres/carre-vintage-100-soie-70cm-rose-de-compas-54845.html . There are only a few pictures of her scarves on HCSI... here is the link. http://piwigo.hermesscarf.com/index?/category/93-natsuno_hidaka

I wish there was more about her... I think her work is beautiful! I would love to own her Turandot scarf, which is a tribute to the opera of the same name.

Okay... here goes. The hand, held upright like that (with the fingers pointing up and the palm facing outward) is called different things in different cultures; in Israel, it is called a "Hamseh" from the word "hamesh" (which is the Hebrew word for "five"... five fingers, get it?). It is sometimes shown with an eye in the middle of the palm, because it is meant to ward off the evil eye. It is seen all over the Middle East. In the Islamic tradition, is is often called the Hand of Fatima. And Middle Eastern Christians call it the Hand of Mary.

It is a very, very old symbol in the Middle East... it has been found in archaeological digs! Until recently, it wasn't seen in the U.S. at all... I bought one in Israel in 1976, and none of my friends here had ever seen such a thing. But because we live in such a "globalized" world (which I think is a wonderful thing!) it is now seen in many countries, worn usually as a necklace or bracelet. And, as you can see, used as a scarf pattern!:smile1:

End of lecture!;)
