Perfect scarf necklace ElainePG! I can see the pink and not just gray. Scarf necklaces are one of my favorite ways to wear my 90cms.

Thank you, MYH! This was my first attempt, and I didn't do a very good job of "puffing out" the sections between the knots... I was too focussed on putting the knots in the right places so the purple would show. But it's going to be fun to do more of them!

I also bought some cheapie little scarf rings on Etsy, and I look forward to experimenting with them as well.

Ladies, I thought I would see what happened by combining the same scarf in two different colorways.

Alas, I think these CWs of Qu'Importe le Flacon are too similar to even look like it's two different scarves. :shrugs:

Does anyone else have the same scarf in a couple of different CWs? It would be interesting to see photos of those combined a la the week's theme!

I agree that it's subtle, rosamonde, but it's still a very pretty look. I own Qu'Importe le Flacon as well, but not in either of these CWs... mine is a sort of deep raspberry shade.

I love the story behind Le Flacon... do you know it? (Apologies if I'm writing something that everyone knows...) It's from a poem by Alfred de Musset, La Coupe et les Lèvres (Cup and Lip). The two key lines are:

Aimer est le grand point, qu'importe la maîtresse.
Qu'importe le flacon, pourvu qu'on ait l'ivresse.

Which loosely translates (with apologies to fluent French speakers) as:
To love is the great thing, no matter the mistress.
No matter the flask, as long as you have drunk.

I just love this, since the incredible collection of "flasks" on the carré are sending precisely the opposite message: yes, perfume is important, but the perfume bottle is important, too! I adore the visual puns that are tucked away in some of the Hermès scarves. I also like that a few of the bottles have perfume spilling out of them!

Oh, sorry, Elaine--I'm working backward in the thread today. Thanks for your nice words! I believe my CW is from the 2000 reissue. Did/do you wear H scarves a lot with suits? I think that is a smashing look--so chic. I hope you post lots of pix for us to enjoy. :smile1:

I used to wear scarves with suits, back in my Corporate America :p days. You probably aren't old enough to remember the book "Dress For Success," but in the late 1970s through perhaps the early 1990s, women who wanted to be taken seriously in the business world had to sort of dress like... well, like men! The "uniform" was an unadorned navy twill suit, severely cut, with a straight skirt, hemmed just below the knee; a white silk blouse; navy pumps; a strand of pearls; and small pearl stud earrings. It's difficult to imagine, these days, but there was very little leeway. The suit might be grey, or (maybe) black; the silk blouse might be pale pink, or (perhaps) have a thin blue stripe, but that was the extent of the deviation.

Well, I wasn't an employee, I was a consultant, so I could indulge in a bit of "frivolity." And the way I did it was with my Hermès scarves. I'd still wear the darned navy suit & silk blouse, but when I knotted a scarf over the blouse, and added an interesting pin to my jacket lapel, it was my little form of rebellion.

I hope my little trip down memory lane hasn't bored everyone to tears!

My Quote function has given up on me - I just wanted to give :wave::flowers: to Rosamonde, ElainePG and BirkinMary for all their creative braiding, pairing an overall inspiration! You ladies rock!

And thank you dear Melora for being scarf mistress this week!

Thank you so much! I've been having a blast!

So I've played in my scarf drawers for a few minutes (a lovely break from what has been an insane work and travel schedule) and I've decided to pair L'Arbre de Vie and Au Coeur de la Vie. Similar names and turquoise accents, with some pinks.

The knot is pretty loose and cozy, and I think I'll try it again on colder days!http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/

What a wonderful, colorful combination! L'Arbre de Vie is on my "wish list"... one of these days I will find exactly the right CW, from exactly the right reseller, at exactly the right price!:D

And because I'm hogging your screens today, here is an off-theme scarf picture, of my Licorne GM and me at a wedding ;)http://www.pinterest.com/pin/create/extension/

The shawl looks just wonderful with your dress. Eceptional outfit!

Very nice! Thank you for sharing

HI Cherryblossum! Thank you! I actually have two pics!

I took a pic of what I did with the 2 twilly's the other day (though only one claims illustrious H parentage, LOL) :p They did go together nicely, I think. They are just twisted together gently so that each one shows its colors and tied in a quick knot. (I live in a very hot climate and so large scarves don't make a lot of sense for me except in fall/winter, but I love my little bandeaux and twilly type scarves because they don't take up so much neck real estate and are fun all year round.)

Also, I was reading through the thread and earlier someone showed the trick of tying the wrist knot, so I had to try that today also and took a pic while waiting for hubby so we could go cabinet shopping. It works like a charm. I'd have never thought to do that around the wrist, though I use that pass through all the time on neck scarves.

The H scarf in both pics is Bouclerie D'Attelage twilly.

Thanks for letting me join in! I hope to do so again soon!

Thank you for showing how you tied your Twillys, bunnycat. I've never owned one, just seen them on the Hermès web site, and sometimes here on tPF, wrapped around the handles of people's bags, so I've never quite understood how they were meant to be worn. (And, I must say, the Hermès web site isn't terribly helpful when it comes to tying Twillys!) Your photo was a great reference. Also, I can see how in a warm climate a smaller silk would be very useful.

Ladies,
My belated thanks to you for the kind compliments on my pink Passage a Tokyo rosette look.

Rosamonde - The blue on blue look is heavenly gorgeous! Great idea!

birkinmary - I can always expect exquisite pics from you. Your pics never disappoint. Quite a pleasure for the eyes.

Lanit - Hope you'll have more free time soon dear. Scarf-wearing season is finally here.

ElainePG - I have enjoyed your scarf musings. Keep them (and the photos) coming!

Melora24 - It's so nice of you to provide mod pics and ideas.

One minute of confession: I just cheated on H. On my walk around the neighborhood last weekend, I stopped by a small indie boutique and fell for the colorway of this non-brandname infinity scarf. I love the colors so much, so fresh and vibrant, and the price was less than CA sales tax on a H twilly, so heck why not! :D
And here's my score (love that it matched my Zara tweed jacket nicely)

Thank you VesperSparrow, rosamonde and ElainePG!

I admit that I currently have more fun with skinny twilly shaped scarves than squares, and am always trying to come up with ways to use them but this thread inspires me to pull out the other shapes soon. I don't think I'll wrap my H twillys in my hair but neck, no problem, bag no problem, and a hearty thank you to the lady who posted the instructions for the wrist tie a few pages back. When I did that I just looked at hubby and said "What fun! Gonna need lots of these!" :P

ETA: Here's the link for the wrist tie again. Melora was the poster who posted the link. http://summerisaverb.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-to-wear-your-hermes-twilly-orrrr.html

Bunnycat, have you tried braiding the twilly for use as a bracelet? If you're close to a boutique, ask your SA, they've been trained on making this look recently.
Here's a how-to video:

or, if you have 3 twillies, you can braid them together like you would with hair

How pretty, cherryblossum. And as far as I'm concerned, your bias fold looks just right! One of the things I've learned from Mai Tai's blog is that all these years I've been making my bias fold too thin. I mean, sometimes a thin bias fold is fine, but with some patterns, it looks better if it's "plumped up" a bit. That's what you did with your two scarves, and it looks just lovely.

Thank you,ElainePG! Your history is very interesting for me. I appriciate your attitude toward your working fashon. I think I'm following your style. A little rebellion with H scarves!

How intriguing your twilly braiding is! I always cannot say enough about your advanced skills, dear Chestnutty! Please show up here sometimes.
The braiding reminds me of Pegase's contribution on page 1!

Now that I'm finally back from my trip, I can play in my scarf drawer and contribute to this thread! On theme with a layered cowboy knot today. Using Flots du cheval and la Mer au Ciel. Kind of busy but I think it works. :-) sorry for bad pic quality. I'm still trying to figure out where the light is best in my new house.

Perfect color match and nice pairng of 70 and 90! I'm figuring out my 70 90, I have not found the solution yet.
Thank you for sharing your enabling pic,MYH!

Today's two-scarf theme: I picked scarves whose names rhyme!:smile1:

Using Farandole and Muserolle, I finally figured out how to re-create rosamonde's braid, and here is the result.

Combining two carrés has been such a fun exercise... I never even knew it was possible! When I look at these two scarves side-by-side, it would never would occur to me to combine them because the pinks are totally different. And yet, once they are braided, the grey somehow pulls it all together and it works. More Hermès magic!

Perfection! Exqvisite pairs and braiding!
