One of my very favorite Alice Shirley designs, Appaloosa des Steppes, in canard/framboise/marine. I read in a 5/17/18 article in Homes and Interiors of Scotland that Ms Shirley was inspired to create this design because of one theory that the American Appaloosa descends from wild spotted horses in Kyrgyzstan. There is a film that I need to stream called True Appaloosa by Conor Woodman that chronicles a NZ Appaloosa breeder and horsewoman’s trek to the Asian Steppes to research her theory that the breed entered NA via the Bering Strait. It’s absolutely fascinating and I look very forward to seeing it. Behind this leaping boy (I’ve decided he’s male; I have named him Azamat, which means “majesty” or “glory”) are the geometrically arranged ancient tribal patterns of Shrydak rugs, created by kyrgyz women who felt, cutout and hand-sew the wool used to make these gorgeous rugs. Stunning colorway Karenska.
Changed the scarf ring and repositioned the asymmetrical fold to better show the horse’s spots. View attachment 4966065
Well done!

I am always so tempted by this gorgeous colorway of Savanna Dance!
I'm in heaven seeing everyone's kitties. Here are my goobers, back when the dark one was about half the cat she is now! :giggle:

I just adore gavoches and I’ve never seen Maharani in this format. So cute!

Scarf mail! Faubourg tropical from SS2021. And it is on topic. Showing both diagonals, and details of some of the fauna. Felines, monkeys, birds. And yes, there is a snake. Also wonderful vegetation.View attachment 4966352View attachment 4966353View attachment 4966357View attachment 4966359View attachment 4966360View attachment 4966361View attachment 4966362
LOVE this! I really want this colorway as well. You’ve paired it so well with different blues.

Lovely contribution to the weekly theme, Cookiefiend, and congratulations on your first Jan! You followed on my own heels, having just very recently received my first Jan! Animapolis, which I modeled earlier in the week.

Gorgeous scarf1! And I love the double wrapped tie around your neck! It's a fab look for you!

Wakoni from 2014 tied with mors !

beautiful!

Hi friends! I have just loved through a very long and exhausting week... with a dentist visit to top it off. Wore my Flowers of South Africa

Glorious FofSA!

I played around with my (3) Baobab Cat scarves recently. I’m always trying to find a way to wear it that shows the wild cat but no luck today. Beautiful colors on a white shirt.

That’s lovely — this one is on my list, too!
Amazing and thank you! I’ll let you all know how it goes and whether the lip gloss I’m trying to remove (out there by me day one of owning it) comes off!

Honestly, I spill coffee and stain my scarves with red lipstick all the time. It always comes off. I don’t even think about twice — a lot of the time, just a quick rinse in cold water is enough!

Biggest fear for me is accidentally flattening the hem. Hasn’t happened yet. I use a cotton hankie over the silk when I iron. @Redbirdhermes , how do you iron, please? I know this needs to go to a different thread if the discussion continues.

It’s honestly not that easy to flatten a hem with a regular iron.

If you get a scarf with a flattened hem, soak it in cold water (briefly) and fluff the hens a bit, they will spring back up.

It took me a long time to gather up everything. I even installed a water softener in my home as our town water is super hard. New iron, ironing board cover, wash bin, special liquid soap, and color catcher sheets. A couple of soft old white towels and my egg timer. Once I had everything assembled it is quick and easy. Just follow the directions in Mai Tai's handwashing scarf blog entry. About 3 minutes of constant gentle swishing in soapy water, two cold rinses, roll in towel to absorb water, hang over clean towel on shower rack. Ready to iron in 20 minutes.

Thank you, and good luck. So far I've only washed older ones that reeked of perfume. They are good practice for me.

I am super impressed with your commitment. I usually just dunk them in the sink with a bit of soap...

Precious!!!

. I love that.
Occasionally, I wear ear plugs to bed. I am extremely careful because Mischief, aptly named, goes crazy chasing them. One day, I realized he had it in his mouth and couldn’t spit it out. Celle horreur :wtf:. I had to pull it out of his mouth. I can’t even think of what could have happened. Just the thought of it fills me with stress. So I never leave them around and happily, they are only used if the neighbors are outside and talking loud when I am trying to sleep.

Mischief is so cute and looks a lot like the cat I had growing up!
