27 Jun 2021 FOMO & Sales Goggles: A look back at Impulse buys, bargains and Must Buys in the first 6 months

Good morning Scarflandia!

Welp - this is a week meant for me… The Queen of Sales Googles, The Queen Bee of Impulse Purchases, The One Who Can’t Resist :borg:, The Boss of Oh It’s on SALE, Why Didn’t You Say So!!!

Gosh, I’ve been busy this year… and we’re just 6 months in! My credit card has taken to hiding under the bed, scarves are falling out of the closet, and the mail delivery people and I are on a first name basis. :giggle:

Sales Goggles - just in case no one has heard me blather about them - are firmly attached to my noggin at all times - Me Oh My how I LOVE a ‘bargain’!
View attachment 5121675
Though we all know an H ‘bargain’ is because I applied H Math.
Wait - maybe you don’t know about H Math?!?

Ahhhh… pull up a seat Grasshoppers.

H Math is an art. It’s when you rationalize your way to a new scarf.
So for example - my Amazone. I had wanted this scarf for ages, it reminds me of the Anime movies I watched with my youngest son… I had to have it. When I found it, I pounced on it even though it was an outrageous price - and the only scarf I have paid over retail for. Then I found another one for a song (of course I did :noggin: ), and I bought it too. H Math allowed me to average the cost of the two together and SHAZAM - it was a bargain! TA DA!!

(Like a story problem, except that the answer wasn’t a Purple Hat [my usual answer to story problems], but 2 lovely scarves!)
View attachment 5121677
Or perhaps you’ve found the Vintage Scarf of Your Dreams, but zomg... the price. Great Googly Moogly. But H Math comes to the rescue, because -gosh - I’d pay this much for a new scarf in the boutique, and this Beauty I’ve Been Waiting For is just a bit more... I’ll take it!

(Then you run off hissing My Precious to yourself)
View attachment 5121678

But, we’re talking about this year, 2021, and as I stated earlier - I have been a bizzy bizzy Cookie! In January, I found a lovely scroll jacquard - Le Cle des Champs.

So, what have y’all been up to?
lovely intro and i gotta love the 'shoutout' to steampunk, having written a thesis on that topic. i'm less known as the steampunk lady and fast becoming the scarf lady these days because i can honestly say that every single scarf in my collection was purchased using H Math.

So many FOMO silks to ogle and catch up! I think this theme suits so many of us scarfies. Here are a few of mine to share.

Beverly Hills moussline- this became available at the summer sales, but I missed out on this preferred colorway in orange and purple. My dear friend was willing to release hers to me so I am thrilled to have it in my ever expanding mousseline collection.

While SIP, plenty of time to find some wonderful past season silks that I missed out on:

Zebra Pegasus mousseline which disappeared from our store before I could take the leap when first issued and then came available on a reseller site early in the pandemic when no one was lookong for scarves lol…

0C62A0AF-84DF-4FCF-B497-E57435CDA4C3.jpeg

Flowers of South Africa - mulling over and being on a ban when it was issued, then realizing I really loved the design and colorway several years later….

Yet another beautiful mousse by Alice Shirley that a dear friend knew I was searching for and offered hers to me ( what great scarf friends I have!)

OK here is where OBSESSIVE FOMO comes into play. I could not pass up on SE Wild Singapore or Animopolis, especially when they fund a good cause. Just tell me its a fundraiser and I will seek a scarf maybe to the ends of the earth, and I am totally grateful to my dear scarfie friends here in TPF who so kindly attained and shipped them to me. Thank you, dear gal pals for these two amazing silks for my tansu!

Here are four more acquisitions from 2021. :wtf: All because a) I missed them the first time around because I was either blind, asleep, or they pre-date H fever and b) they’d been on my wish list and finally showed up in the right cw for a fair/good price. A + B = C (joy!)

And yes, it’s not your imagination, Honoré is a favorite.View attachment 5123380View attachment 5123381View attachment 5123382View attachment 5123383

Beautiful! All such great colourways, and styled perfectly.

Well here are the last 3 scarves I have recently purchased - all previously owned.

della Cavalleria moussie 140 - I got sidetracked by other beautiful moussies the season this came out - felt lucky to have found this a few weeks ago. I clicked “ BIN” very quickly. This Cw will be very versatile- with all the colors in it.
View attachment 5122989

another purchase this month - I didn’t manage to buy maitres de la foret when it was originally released. I always knew this was the perfect CW for me- another BIN as soon as this was listed. all my favorite blues with a bit of purple.
View attachment 5122991View attachment 5122993View attachment 5122995
and this one was a surprise - a beautiful moussie stole Tabriz listed at a great price with crummy pix. In fact it is very difficult to photograph moussies so they are often a b3autiful surprise when you open the box - even better than you hoped for.
lately I have been wearing a lot of aqua and greens so this was perfect!

Congratulations on your blue beauties! You know it's right when you can't hit the button fast enough!

This is just beautiful. And beautiful on you.

Thanks Cookie!:hugs:

Hierarchies! Thank you!

Fabulous!!! Offrandes is divine in green.

I’ve not even posted my impulse buys yet!
Thank you - the color is ❤️❤️❤️!
I jumped on the reissue of La Marche du Zambeze as soon as it appeared on h.com. I wanted to be sure to get this black and green wash scarf before it disappeared from the site. This was my first wash scarf, and I adore the soft feel of the silk.

View attachment 5123512
So beautiful! ❤️
Haha! Perfect! The bright pink was my favorite of these.

Thank you moma! This is the regular silk. In a 90 size, the extra $$ of a wash scarf would be a waste on me, as I would starch the absolute s**t out of it. I like the 90 size to have a lot of body and am beginning to notice I get "tired" of them once they start to droop. So I have taken to adding sizing when the new ones start to soften to keep them on my radar longer. The one 90 size I prefer softer is the 1958 Phaeton.

Congrats on these fab finds!

Your color choices are stupendous Pirula!

Love your wonderful red Hola Flamenca!

That Offrandes- so stunning!!!

The hem is perfection on this scarf and with your shirt!
Thanks cutie!
Here’s my SOTD. Twins with @paula24jen and @Nomad. Loving this Mai Tai chemisier knot to dress up a tee shirt and “knot” too much silk around the neck…View attachment 5123540
This is such a lovely cw!
Thank you dear bunnycat!

So pretty! I must seek out the details of this knot. It’s different and far nicer than what I do sometimes.

Here’s my SOTD. Just how I wore it too cuz it’s 95F here today. One of my impulse purchases this year. I blame @Joannadyne. But I love it sooooo much.

View attachment 5123568
This scarf, in this color is SO you! Everytime you wear it, I smile. So pretty!
these are both wonderful on you. But that green scarf with that sweater, amazing!

Congrats! I also missed this design when it was first released. This CW is wonderful on you.
Thank you sweetheart!
lovely intro and i gotta love the 'shoutout' to steampunk, having written a thesis on that topic. i'm less known as the steampunk lady and fast becoming the scarf lady these days because i can honestly say that every single scarf in my collection was purchased using H Math.
A thesis on Steampunk?!? Be still my heart - it must be fascinating!

This year has been punctuated by a couple of lucky finds, and at least one FOMOF (but I didn't settle) scarf. Though I have tried to tell myself I have been better about purchases, sadly when I add the number up, that is not the case. A lot of the purchases so far this year have been definitely OUT of the bargain realm and IN to the I'd better get this while I can realm.... Cha-ching $$$

One bargain I am very happy with (because, like our dear @Cookiefiend , I have a permanently attached pair of sales goggles on my head at all times... )

Just before "The Big Freeze" here in TX I located this Grand Fonds pareo for the price of a twilly (calculated Mod H so everyone here will understand) :roflmfao:

View attachment 5122801

And under the concept of FOMOF (Fear of Missing out Forever) when the Marche du Zambeze came out, and was re-released in my fav colorway of black/purple/green I ordered it as fast as it could appear on H dot com (and it promptly became my valentines present from MrBcat's "SGV" - that magic place where future H scarf numbers reside.... )

View attachment 5122807

The other FOMOF scarf still hangs in limbo in the SGV as of today, but I HAD to have it because I love the marble scarves so and wanted one of my very own. :cloud9: So my Kyoto Marble bandana from this spring's releases is still in the set of "imaginary" scarves FOMOF-i, since it don't exist here on my Real Scarf Plane (RSP) just yet. I am hoping it will get moved from FOMOF-i to RSP very soon-ish!

View attachment 5122809
That SGV is such a magical wonderland, Bunny! The marble silk is a precious wonder, and I love how you style your pareos and made me go there this year! Zambeze is fab on you, of course

FOMOFSIS, now there’s a thing; I snoozed the season Animapolis came out, by the time I caught up via tpf enabling they were pretty much sold out. My ever patient SA managed to find one left in the country but not my preferred cw, howeve it is one of my most complimented scarves. So meant to be really!

View attachment 5122811
So glad you found one as this design is so delightful! One of my fav travel scarves as it livens up any outfit. This is a lovely CW

All so beautiful and wearable, and look amazing on you... The Della Cavalleria is a dream and this CW of Foret is spectacular

So in H math I’ve learned that budgeting is for the birds— quite literally! Here are two impulse purchases/lucky finds inspired by the bird theme week and one Wish List Fulfillment/Target of Opportunity that showed up unworn in a box at no more than retail.
View attachment 5123044View attachment 5123045View attachment 5123046

Twins with you on the Flamingo Party for which I searched far and wide in this CW... The other two remain on my wishlist... So amazing!

Scarf mail try on. Not on theme And not with this outfit haha. Tried to show Notre Dame in front . Les Ponts de Paris.
This is a design on the lower half of my wishlist, in a color I finally found that I can work with and a price that worked. I can’t do the strong yellows that is so typical on this design. It is also a classic case of color distortion with online pics. I thought the ‘blue’ was a different ( better) blue than what showed up in my box. But it is still a good blue thankfully, phew. I love how the bridges look in this. View attachment 5123057View attachment 5123055View attachment 5123056
I love this design and am your scarf cousin... It ties beautifully and is the perfect silk to take on a trip to Paris!

Who am I but the most devoted bargain hunter

Chapeau! (which I posted last week as well) was a “that’s too cheap, no way the final price is gonna be that low” unexpected ebay auction win. I normally would be quite skeptical at such low price but the scarf was from a trusted Japanese seller so I took the plunge, put in my max bid and went to bed. Woke up the proud winner haha

View attachment 5123372
Early America, enabled by dear @turfnsurf was another bargain. I’ve been eyeing a 90 pink Early America but the price for that particular scarf is quite high. So when this little moussie gav popped up, half the size but less than half the price, clearly it was a great deal. H Math at its finest

View attachment 5123378:P

I’m living vicariously through you @Thelittlefoxes. Venice is beautiful as always and I hope to be able to go back there one day

What a year so far! You have found the most wonderful silks! And, all were made for you!

Here’s the last of my four “lucky finds” from the past six months. So far I have accumulated four lucky finds, three targets of opportunity, two impulse buys and one full blown obsession. AND I am running out of what my DH calls “luxe bucks” money made from selling seldom and/or never used designer shoes and bags which made up my scarf slush fund! Oh, well, it’s been a grand spree so far…

A quick post for Tuesday - one an unbelievable bargain (sales goggles!), and one ZOMG I Must Find That - courtesy of @Agrume!
I was poking around, randomly searching, when I found an incredible bargain - Jeu de Soie - so of course I bought it!
View attachment 5123463
This next scarf, I was reading SOTD post when Agrume posted this astonishingly beautiful green scarf. :faint: Off I raced to see if I could find one - and holy moly there it was!

Three other silks to enter my collection this year...
The first scarf I purchased from the Spring/Summer 2020 collection was Plumes en Fête in the white and multicolor CW, but almost immediately after I bought it, I realized that I wanted the orange CW, but I got sidetracked with other scarves, then Covid lockdowns struck and orange Plumes went to the back burner... I thought I was doing the right thing ( for my wallet and wallet alone apparently because I want it right now! :crybaby:) by NOT buying this as a place holder of a magnificent design, and to just wait for my perfect colorway to come my way. hurumph. It is so gorgeous on you!

All perfect stunners lanit!

That SGV is such a magical wonderland, Bunny! The marble silk is a precious wonder, and I love how you style your pareos and made me go there this year! Zambeze is fab on you, of course

So glad you found one as this design is so delightful! One of my fav travel scarves as it livens up any outfit. This is a lovely CW

All so beautiful and wearable, and look amazing on you... The Della Cavalleria is a dream and this CW of Foret is spectacular

Twins with you on the Flamingo Party for which I searched far and wide in this CW... The other two remain on my wishlist... So amazing!

I love this design and am your scarf cousin... It ties beautifully and is the perfect silk to take on a trip to Paris!

Both are great and i love this CW of the Early America, which I have in the 90 twill version

What a year so far! You have found the most wonderful silks! And, all were made for you!

You have chosen well... they are all spectacular

Lucky you! Especially with this delicious Offrandes that I wish to find

Amazing on you! I remember how we all so quickly fulfilled our Zambeze dreams the minute they became available on the website!

It is truly a great knot and fabulous with this one

So happy you found it as it is marvelous on you... and on your chapeau! Great idea for the warmer days

Breathtaking selections! All well-deserving to be in your fabulous tansu... Those special editions are treasures. The Jardins Anglais is a dream for me... And, the same thing happened to me with this particular CW of FOSA which I was fortunately able to find long after when no longer available... It is fantastic!

It is! I'm looking forward to (finally ) getting it. :) I think there will be a few pareo convert's this year!

Then, this year, I decided I had to act fast or I would lose it forever. As major FOMO hit me, my SA was luckily able to locate one for me in March

And, now for some Sales Goggles finds beginning with Au Coeur de la Vie in this wonderful pearly CW which I always admired. When it turned up in wonderful condition in the mid-$300s, I had to pounce

Though I own two great CWs of Tous les Bateaux du Monde, I always adored the cobalt blue. At exactly $100 less than current regular retail, I just couldn’t pass it up. An unheard of price nowadays for this design
