My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

Hmm, a fun theme! I'll try to keep things to just three categories, all with archive pics as I'm away from my collection at the moment.

Most Worn: Carre Kantha CSGM
I am thrilled at how often I pull out my new-to-me Carre Kantha CSGM. It's been perfect for cool weather and goes well with most of my winter wardrobe.
View attachment 4939840

Most Inspiring: Plumes en Fete 90
This is the scarf that started it all, my 30th birihday scarf and the one that started me down the slippery orange slope.

Most Exciting Find: Into the Canadian Wild 90
I'd had my eye on this one since starting my collection, so I jumped on it when I found it gently preloved at retail price. It's been a joy figuring out how to tie it different ways to highlight all the different wildlife.

Wonderful choices and you wear them all so well! Twins on all three!
I need to catch up on all the wonderful posts over the last few days. (I have seen some lovely pics from so many fly by!)

Here is a quiet but beautiful moussie I picked up this year. Inspired by @Sammy Royal . Ceintures et Liens.

I would say she is in the running for best supporting actress for an understated, sublime performance.View attachment 4939696
VERY Oscar(f) worthy! This would definitely overshadow any golden statue!

Everyone loves a Year End Wrap Up, even in a year such as this... and oh - whatta year! I’m always curious to see what others are thinking, how they’re tallying up their votes, what makes the cut, the confessions (mea culpa dear wallet), and seeing what *really* gave us joy.
I was a bizzy bizzy bizzy cookie this year - though not as bad as last year - and managed to bring in 33 scarves. I sold or gave away a total of 21, for a net gain of 12 scarves... that’s how I’m looking at it anyway!
But how to start deciding who wins? :panic:
< throwing a dart >
I’ll start with the moussies - 6 new came in...

Best Supporting Moussie goes to Carre Kantha
View attachment 4939898
And the Oscarf goes to Parures des Sables - it is beautiful!

Be still my heart!! Not only gorgeous .....but the most beautiful Green! This one deserves it’s very own red carpet.

What a fun week! As this is my first year collecting H scarves, I just wanted to thank you ladies for a fun distraction from 2020! I have loved spending time on this forum and appreciate all of you!
I collected a total of 23 scarves this year. I anticipate my next years will be much less, and I’ll become even more discerning. I’m a minimalist at heart. There is only one scarf that was a slight miss for me, and I decided to keep her after listing her for sale. So - I’m considering my purchases a total win for the year!

My categories:

1. Best format: the winner goes to 90 cm double face silks. If you had asked me six months ago, I would have said wash scarves, but after purchasing two double-sided silks, I’m a firm convert. Below is my Formule Chic.

2. Best Color Family: It’s the botanica from AW20, hands down. I have three scarves from this color family, and below is my La Legende du Cheval a Plumes. I can’t get enough of these colors!

3. Best Design: Almost all of my scarves, including the three in these photos, are borderless, with all four corners different. Some of the designs I love are Cosmographia, Acte III, Pivoines, and Animapolis. These are the designs that I prefer, as they maximize value and are the most aesthetically pleasing for me personally. I love feeling like I’m wearing a piece of art that could be hanging on my wall. Honing in on this design style early has allowed me to be very discerning, which is for the best for my wallet.

4. And the Scarfie goes to: Cosmographia Universalis Special Edition 90 cm, for the brighter future of Hong Kong. I love this scarf so much, it’s my favorite design and these colors are my catnip. The fact that it’s special edition makes it all the more precious to me!

Looking forward to 2021!
Twins on the La Legende du Cheval! I love your SE Cosmographia. This colorway is outstanding!

Well, my award for Best New Format in a Starring Role goes to The Mousseline...
After drooling over pictures of moussies here on TPF for a long while, I finally waded in and added the first to my collection, and I am thrilled with the format. Moussies work very well in a tropical climate and they are truly sublime. This year, I found five beauties and I know they won’t be the last...
So, once again, here is my very first mousseline and the one that remains my favorite and worthy of the Best Moussie award: Offrandes d’un Jour

And, here is my last moussie purchase of the year and winner of Best Moussie in a Supporting Role: Under the Waves in the black CW

And, I also was lucky to find a long-time moussie Grail: Rayures Mexicaines in this less commonly seen CW. @Joannadyne let me try hers on when she visited and I was convinced I had to have it, and she helped me locate this one... It arrived in time for my birthday

And, Under the Waves in the navy/pink CW

OH! These are gorgeous!! The first 3 are so beautiful and vivid while the yellow is just as lovely with the pops of soft purple. The pink/blue Under the Waves has always been a top favorite of mine.
Favorite 70 of 2020 is J’aime mom carre. I had been hoping to get one for a couple of years, then in January I found this one.
2020 definitely saw me reaching for the 70s often while at home.
this CW has turned out to be more versatile than I expected. I often paired it with a burgundy cardigan.
iView attachment 4940130View attachment 4940139View attachment 4940138

and my favorite 90 was another past season find. I had been wishing for this CW forever and felt lucky to get this one in excellent new condition, because i can never have too many BLUE scarves, LOL!
View attachment 4940131View attachment 4940129
The Corail scarf is amazing in blue!

I had that happen with Acte III. I loved the red cw in the stock photos. I loved it even more when @papertiger modshot hers. I went to H with high expectations of saying "Take my money, take it, take it!" ... and somehow it just didn't look the same IRL for me. I still bought 3 other cws of that design, but I've always felt like I missed out on the red. Doesn't help that it is still available on the local h.com and I get dissociative amnesia each time I see it - my finger moves to click "Add to Cart"
SAME here! I think I even saved a pic of @papertiger wearing hers! I still gaze at it on h.com at times with my finger “hovering” over the ADD TO CART.
Evolving tastes is what makes us yearn for that which we were unsure of originally, or at least that is how it is for me. ITCW is a design I would grab now but it’s so expensive on the resale market. Animapolis, too! ( :graucho: ) And as I have said before, I can’t buy everything nor do I want to (although I certainly added to the collex this year. Blame it on the pandemic.;)

Passing on Appaloosa des Steppes when available at H, I finally found one this year - my framboise/canard cw. Not easy to find, though; this one came from France and not pristine condition. I have washed it but feel a good starching is needed (or whatever that starch-like product is, which I know I can look up; the name is just eluding me right now).
I feel that I do need to reevaluate my collection but good luck to me to have the courage to part with any of it - what if my tastes change back? :panic:
There are some scarves I just don’t get around to wearing. And that makes me feel bad because I certainly don’t buy these at these variously expensive or occasional good-deal prices for them to sit in the drawer!

This colorway is really pretty on you with your dark hair! My first purchase of this design was the rouge/blue/green .....I later found the more neutral colorway with the soft pops of blue. I’ve actually placed my first one in my “re-home” pile because I love the brown one so much.

Lost track already after 2 days... busy days at work.
after starting to buy scarves on a more significant scale last year, my purchases also increased this year, for some of the reasons you described. I also learned better about what I like and what I could let go. This year was also my first at this forum, and I much enjoy the time out your posts provide. Definitely something to keep post COVID!

my Oscarf this year goes to Charabia, SOTD. I love the quiet design and its colours.

Twins with you! I like the casual styling here. So Cozy.

ok, I was going to be quiet but I must now confess - I am also one who was captured by the red 90cm ActeIII! I ordered from h.com and was gutted to have to return it. So spectacular on those who can wear those colors, but I was forced to admit that the (unexpectedly warmish) red and peachy tones did not work with my skin tone. You just never know until you try! So happy for those with whom this scarf found a home! I ended up with the creme and soft raspberry/purple colorway which is right up my alley.

My Oscarf for "Best Design" of course goes to ... PeF! I was slow to get on the bandwagon but ended up with 2 90's and a CSGM, which is the most I have of any single design in my collection. Here is a family photo.

View attachment 4940788
I with you on the LOVE for this design. I cannot say out loud how many of the 90s and CSGMs have ended up in my colllection but will say that I have no regrets! I honestly think this white 90 colorway with the yellow/grey feathers is a hidden treasure.
My award to Preferred Format of the Year goes to the CSGM...
Since I live in a tropical climate, I was never much drawn to cashmere shawls, nevermind that I have a mild allergy to cashmere. But, last year I took a chance with the format and found that shawls are actually very useful as they come in handy in highly air conditioned places and are great for travel.
But, my CSGM collection truly exploded this year, probably as a result of the pandemic. I was astounded to do a recount at the end of the year to see that I’ve acquired a grand total of 15! This year has been my most expansive and expensive Hermes scarf-buying year ever!
I am very pleased with my shawl collection as I now own nearly all of my CSGM Grails, which is pretty remarkable.
So, here are the shawls that win the award for Best Shawl of the Year... Yes, it’s a tie among these five beauties...
My last shawl purchase of the year and among my favorites is this Ex Libris en Kimonos
View attachment 4940681

I purchased a grand total of three Parures de Samourais shawls... I am in awe of each one, but the blue CW was my first and remains my favorite
View attachment 4940667

My most impacting and dramatic shawl is my red The Savana Dance. I was lucky to also find the navy CW of this design, but this one is unparalleled
View attachment 4940665

L’Arbre de Vie in this black CW was the most elusive of my CSGM Grails. I had been pursuing it since last year when I started my shawl adventures. I missed out on it twice until I finally landed this one this last summer. I am wearing it today and I am thrilled with it
View attachment 4940682

And, once again, my first CSGM of the year, and a most amazing design: La Femme aux Semelles de Vent
View attachment 4940666
L’Arbre de Vie! Amazing!!
4 of the scarves that joined me this year were vintage jacquards - I love the jacquards. Sadly 2 left not too after their purchase because they were not good colors for me. The 2 remaining deserve Oscarfs.
Best Supporting Scallop Jacquard (and the most puzzling*) - Alliance Franco-Anglais.
View attachment 4940776
The Oscarf for Scallop Jacquard Vintage Beauty goes to Venerie des Princes.

*I couldn’t find this scarf for a long time in the Piwigo catalogue, but I knew it was H, and in the scallop jacquard. Do you know how long it can take to go through on random searches, looking at tiny, often blurry photo? The listing had terrible pictures and the seller was - erm - less than helpful. I didn’t pay much (@Redbirdhermes this would qualify for the Best for Least award too) and was a little worried it was going to be a disaster. It was in excellent condition though, just a little musty and wrinkled. Another question about it is, when was it produced? Piwigo has it as 1940, but our learned MT thinks it’s from the early 60’s because of the jacquard.
The mustard jacquard is a true gem.

I just reviewed this year’s haul (:coolio:) and I not only added several scarves to my collection, but also several formats:
Gavroches (6)
CSGMs (2)
GTCS (1)
140 Silk Plume (1), and
Bandanas (2).
I also increased my 70s by 5, the first of which is Tigre Royal Fleuri, purchased on Jan 29 on Broad St H in NYC, and the last of which is today, Les Bassetts. I’m sorry to say I don’t know if LB is going to work out.
I also acquired another Maxi-Twilly Cut, two twillies, two plisses, two GTs, and several 90s. The awards for me will be expressed over the next couple of days. Meanwhile, here is scarf mail, Les Bassetts. View attachment 4940850View attachment 4940849View attachment 4940851
Twins with you on LB......so you must keep! Just kidding....we seem to be twins on so many....
I like how you are wearing in the last pic. Very chic.
Try pairing it with something grey!
I’ve taken a quick pic of how I wore mine last week. I liked it with a grey sweater as it seemed to pull out the grays in the dogs.

Like RBH- I am a huge fan of Les Artisans d'H and am giving it the award for Best New Design for 2020 in my scarf stash, tied here in one of the knots the lovely @Yoon daily scarf showed us the other day.

I also have created a very special category. Some of you may remember that I have been through SEVERAL attempts at finding *my* Jungle Love. I started with a deep red Dip Dye a few years ago, but always had trouble tying it to see enough of the cats....so it got re-homed. Then I tried a 70cm cotton charm, and still, I couldn't really get enough of what I wanted to see in it, plus---borders...just not a fan!

Since I am not a fan of borders, and knew I was going to have to accept them or keep waiting for a format I liked (had sooooo many hopes for a Jungle Love Maxi twilly....) especially when Jungle Love Rainbow came out.

Finally, I decided none of that was going to materialize, and then JL Love also got released. So I decided twillies was going to have to be "close enough" and got not just one but both JLR and JLL twillies while they were out together earlier in the year. Right after that, I found an older pocket square for a great deal NWT. And thought..."well why not?" Surely 3 JL is now good enough!

Another bit of shortliness after that I found the 90cm JL Dip Dye (also for a great deal) and figured "well, I can at least see the cats better, and there is some color variation here, and I don't hate the purple border....plus SALES GOGGLES" :woot:

Me: Now! I am fine...I have 2 twillies, a pocket square and a 90. I know I missed out on that CSGM I SHOULD have gotten but these will be fine!

.....
:roflmfao:
.....

Due to procrastination I had missed a GREAT deal on a red/black/white CSGM, which I then found *again* some time later for also a pretty good deal and did not hit BIN fast enough that time. Foiled *again* on the CSGM front!

Me: Oh come on! You have enough JL! :wtf:

Also me: No....I really don't....

Me:

And so the search continued until I located one of the old color ways I had been interested in, since the giant tattoo hadn't really called my name hard enough....

And so I present my award for Best Overreactive Scarf Purchasing with a total of 5 Jungle Loves in one year (and I would not say no to some other format should it ever come out.... )

The dip dye is so pretty!!
The CSGM you have posted is just gorgeous....the purple mixed with green. Pure love.

Bravo on the tying of LA!

Just for fun, two more categories:

One of the things I’ve enjoyed the most about scarves is creating and playing around with knots. I don’t think I’m particularly great at this, certainly not in the way that some others are, but it’s just fun. Sometimes I envision a knot in my head and try it, fail, but accidentally come up with something else that I like even more. My favorite knot award goes to this beauty, which I like the most with my Foret.

6FB9A1B4-38C0-4CD0-8309-7E13B26CD60A.jpeg

And my last award is what I like to call the “you almost got away” award, which I give to my Jardin a Sintra. I bought this scarf as a compromise color that I convinced myself wasn’t really a compromise (it was), then opened the box, didn’t like it, told myself I liked it, secretly hated it, then complained about it multiple times, then decided to sell it and even listed it, then woke up and decided I loved it and freaked out that someone might buy it, then harassed Foxy Trini by sending her multiple pictures of me wearing the scarf over the course of days asking her if this scarf is better than I thought, then decided it looked good with camel, and ultimately kind of fell in love with it. It was a close call, JaS, but now you’re mine forever! Special thanks to Foxy for indulging what is clearly my total lunacy, but I figured if anyone can understand this madness, it’s all of you!
