My very best wishes to everyone for the New Year to all SOTD regulars, occasional posters and newcomers alike  .

The SOTD 2021 thread is now open and ready for business:

The new theme commences tomorrow (3 Jan - whenever your time zone gets there) but there's no reason why you can't post earlier if you want.

What a great introduction to Sherlock Week, @Cookiefiend! I adore your Kachinas and all of the information about the dancers. I have a couple of scarves that I plan to research for you all this week.

In the meantime, today was a busy day, so I just wore my Kachinas that I had on yesterday. A fortuitous choice given Cookie's intro this morning.

Fantastic intro, cookie! I have looked into the kachinas some too.

I love h silks with their rich and thoughtful designs. They are so much more than scarves! They are works of art, and they offer a window into so many fascinating subjects if you care to explore.

I also love the curiosity and sense of wonder and excitement of the scarfies here. Everyone's passion for these lovely carres is fabulous, and guessing will be fun too. I can't wait to play and learn this week!
Thank you so much!
I am always astonished by just how much information, introspection and curiosity we have about these scarves - they are not only works of art but they inspire us to learn more.
WoW - what an intraduction! Now I WANT this scarf!!! Thank you, Cookiefiend!
Whoops! :giggle:
It is a very interesting scarf. When I first found mine, I thought "Erm... I dunno... all these weird faces!", but then I started my research and learned more about it and the artist and now? I love it!
Thank you for the fantastic introduction to this scarf week, Cookiefiend!
Thank you sweetie and thank you for sharing your darling Kluska!
Fabulous post!!!
Thank you Cordie!
Great intro, Cookie. I like the Kachinas scarves and own a lot although my friends find them scary.

Thank you so much, Awillow!
Thank you Croisette! I hope that by the end of the week it will be less scary and more inspiring. The Kachinas are so interesting!
+100! Would be perfect for a theme!

Speaking of Kryptonite! That green and purple combo!!!!! :faint:

Fabulous intro!!! I love reading about all the Kachinas (but admit I forget who and always have to look them up again....)
Thanks cutie!
I have to admit to having a Google doc to keep them straight - and I still don't know what all of them represent!
I truly hope that by the end of the week I'll have more answers - this group is full of geniuses!
Thank you for the lovely comment. I remember someone on SOTD once remarked that I obviously find much joy in my scarves. I endeavour to share my sense of glee with everyone here.

What I noticed about life is that once you get a foot in the door, it's much easier to explore the rest of the house. Many a time, the H designers start off in one department and are given opportunities in other fields when H recognizes their talent. Henri d'Origny was doodling when someone remarked that his doodles would be a nice design for a tie, and so it began...

Serpentine belongs to that category of scarves which I just can't visualize on me (my wallet just heaved a sigh of relief )

Beautiful scarf and intro, Cookie!
I'm off to do some research...

I would join you and @CanuckBagLover but DH has sworn off France. He had a bad bout of culture shock when he went there on business and found that he couldn't understand a single sign/menu/etc (told him that he should have brought me along ;) )

The expression on your furbaby is priceless!
Thank you dear Xincinsin! I can hardly wait to see what you turn up!
What an amazing intro, Cookiefiend, and thank you for all your research on a beloved design. That is an incredibly beautiful cw of the ever-popular Kachinas. I look forward to ‘sleuthing’ my collection this week for interesting items and ‘clues’ for our Scarfies to guess. :hbeat:
Yay!! I will be on the edge of my seat to see what you bring to us!
wow! This is amazing on you. I must confess it is one of those designs that didn’t appeal to me when seen flat. But it is amazing!

another Ugo fn here. Love your examples

what a beautiful CW! And perfect with your sweater/ jumper.

Wonderful intro! impressed with all your research.
Thank you! :hugs:
@k_alleycat2000
Just make sure that the part you are quoting is bracketed by this: "
So interesting ! And now I regret even more the wash Kachinas I did not buy...
Thank you! I am still wanting the giant triangle and a pink Kachinas... one day!!

What a treasure  Congrats!

Adore Phaeton. I saw one up for sale cheap, but it looked like it had been used as a dish rag
I’m also a big fan & have struggled to keep my count to two
I’m always a bit sad when I see vintage designs that have been through the wringer.

Fleurs d’Ecosse today ❤

Love this pairing! :girlsigh:

You found a black and white one! Lucky you!!!
Yes! I have you to thank for enabling my search

Today I wore La Serpentine de Pierre Charpin, and posted it in the wrong thread LOL. He designs furniture and cool objects. I think this is his only scarf for H. View attachment 4922395

So happily styled

I am off topic, but I got this scarf mail to show. My first Kermit Oliver, crazily enough.
Love the way you tied it to showcase the pink- so flattering :girlsigh:

That is a delightful colorway, and it works so well for you.

Delightful!!

“All those L'Ivresse de L'Infini are driving me :cray:” - I know! @Cookiefiend’s and @Awillow ’s cws are both soooooo gorgeous, I was checking eBay out. But I’m supposed to stay on “The Island” :crybaby: - my orders!

I own several myself, and always regret not having bought more...

Finishing up the Wearing Two Hats week with Kermit Oliver's Kachinas. This American artist not only designed Hermes scarves, he worked for most of his life as a US Postal mail sorter. Many thanks to all postal workers, especially during these currently difficult times.

Playing around with pattern on pattern here. I think the colors are fine, but I probably need a greater difference in pattern and scale. I can see why solid colored tops work well.

View attachment 4922021View attachment 4922022View attachment 4922023

Stunning on you -- you always look so good in. right colors.

Oh man, I thought it was me in the photo for a second. I am allergic to cashmere but have similarly colored silk shawls. So I approve :)

A few more that (mostly) fit this week.

I believe Daisuke Nomura started with Hermes with a win in a tie designing competition through H. His (2009??) win for the tie design was called Party Time and certainly the inspiration for C'est la Fete. (IIRC the design placement was not first place but more like 5th ???, and so it is intriguing that morphed in to one of the most sought after designs in recent history....)

Party Time:

And C'est La Fete (with Della Cavalleria t-shirt. )

View attachment 4922296

And did we hear this week that Jan Bajtlik did some windows for H also? Cosmographia- always a winner!

View attachment 4922297

And I have no idea if this is on theme, but surely with LeDoux's long association with H, he wore more than one hat at H as well??? With Promenades de Paris

View attachment 4922295

That Cosmographia is killer on you!

Today I wore La Serpentine de Pierre Charpin, and posted it in the wrong thread LOL. He designs furniture and cool objects. I think this is his only scarf for H. View attachment 4922395

Looking so elegant!!!

Rounding off the week with Ugo Gattoni, also a representative of the cute factor. His clients are very diverse and include Nissan, Rolex and Nike. He designs span a wide range of products including wallpaper and, as @bunnycat mentioned, candles. He spent his visit to Singapore at the Carre Club event 2 years ago creating animation.

Check out the gorgeous animated commercial for the Diptyque candles (I am definitely biased because it features a magic cat :P )

Good Morning Scarflandia!

This week’s theme is Sherlock Scarves.

Well my fellow scarf fiends - we’re doing a bit of a switcheroo on you! We’re really going to ask you to put on your Deerstalker hats, and employ all your considerable sleuthing skills. Not to find out what Santa’s hidden under the tree, but to solve some H Mysteries. :smartass:

Sherlock Holmes first appeared in print in 1887, A Study in Scarlet. Sherlock Holmes was known for his proficiency with observation, deduction, forensic skills and logical reasoning that borders on the fantastic.

I don’t think ole Sherlock has a thing on us Scarfies! I have never seen such a dedicated group - we know SO MUCH about these beauties… and how did we find out so much about them? Why we’ve sleuthed through the internet, we tracked down art and history books, H’s own libraries! We deduced, we used our intuitive and inquisitive minds, to learn all we could.
I’m not sure how much logic was involved - it is H after all!

I’m going to start the week with Kachinas.
View attachment 4922702

A Kachina is a spirit being in the religious beliefs of many Native American cultures, Kachinas are spirits or personifications of things in the real world. The central theme of kachina beliefs and practices as explained by Wright (2008) is "the presence of life in all objects that fill the universe. Everything has an essence or a life force, and humans must interact with these or fail to survive." The Kachinas are supernatural beings who visit the villages to help with everyday activities and act as a link between gods and mortals. There are different types of Kachinas - Chief Kachinas (elders), Ogres (disciplinary), Warriors or Guards (enforcers), Runners (race the men) , Clowns (humor), Female, and Animal.

I don’t know about you - but I find this fascinating.
The outer circle has 16 Kachinas, the inner has 8. I’ve been researching off and on for a couple of years, trying to figure out what they all are. I have found what I *think* are some of them, and a lovely woman on Instagram (@cloudwei.c) has been working on it too. She had some that I did not and I’ve incorporated her information. I hope she doesn’t mind!

I’m going to start with the inner circle - starting with Number 1 and going around the circle clockwise.

I hope we can all be like Sherlock and find even more information on this scarf. I don’t know what all of the Kachinas are, but would like to. I’ll be adding the next 16, including the ones I don’t know, starting tomorrow. Any new information gleaned using time tested Sherlock, I mean Scarfie methods will be added to my Google documents and posted at the end of the week.

And I am so curious about so many other scarves as well… What are the all the lucky tokens that are included in Turandot? What does the background of Mythiques Phoenix mean?

Tell us something interesting about a scarf you have or play mystery scarves: show us a close-up & we’ll guess the scarf - we’re going to be all over the place this week!

It’s Elementary, my dear Watsons!

Thank you for all your research. I have mentioned before I find the Kachinas scarf unsettling, but I am delighted to learn more about its origins. We stayed at a hotel in Phoenix that had a Kachinas GSCM framed in the lobby, and some tourist shops were selling Kachinas trinkets -- I am always really excited to see any appreciation of the native heritage.

I have missed out on a few weeks of SOTD because of being busy with work and struggling to photograph scarves in daylight this time of the year (living in the dark north...). So I apologise for being a bit off topic for this week.

Here are my contributions for Spice Route - Destination Europe:

Marine et Cavalerie. In my cw the flag looks like the Dutch flag and the cavalry are wearing red, white and blue colours.

Napoleon x 2. I love it so much I got it in two cws (that look very similar...)

My contribution for last week's theme Wearing Two Hats is of course Jan Bajtlik

An attempt at a Kluska look-a-like (dressing up one of the dogs in Animapolis)

Cosmographia Universalis. This one you have seen many times before, but I can't help but post it again. I just love the colours!

I admire your ability to wear green (or teal perhaps?) together with red. I would just look like poinsettia, but it works on you so well.

Love the way you tied it to showcase the pink- so flattering :girlsigh:

Thank you -- it is a good color for me. If I start falling for Kermit Oliver's scarves, this hobby will turn so much more dear... :)
