Oh- that's too bad! The canvas strap is perfect for my shoulders and the casual vibe goes with most everything for me. It finally made me realize all I need is one of those in a neutral color, and a couple of smaller dressy purses and I am good. Because, unlike with scarves which I tend to look for a different one every day, I am incredible lazy about purses, hate to change out of them and prefer to carry the same one for weeks on end before getting tired and switching to a new one.

That's a beautiful blue Croisette!

No- definitely not at all Disney!

Yeah- that was a such a great resource for looking at past issues....so sad it is gone...

I like the combo! (And I can see how it could be a real challenge for pattern on pattern....)
too bad, it really was a great resource and quite frankly a fun website.

I’m the same way. I discovered TPM for the purpose of folding my scarves :) and am slowly moving away from wearing a purse until it falls apart... I kind of wear a purse for a season now except if I need to wear a clutch.

I have been thinking the same thing! There are a few designs I haven’t pursued because the border is just too big and plain. I have thought about getting it rehemmed to reduce the border to make it more wearable for my own tastes. If you have this done please post pics and all kinds of info!!:flowers:
I wonder if H would only do it if the border had been damaged or something, and not purely for aesthetic reasons. (Rolls eyes...) You never know....

Ooh, that would be charming framed! There’s a pastel blue version that I didn’t like on me but would be great framed in a certain room, I think. Doom!

I was struck by the idea of a gavroche framed, though, and panicked at the realization that I might have purged a cheap frame that I bought years ago. The print was sub-mediocre, but the frame was ornately carved + layers of matts. I still have it - it’s smaller than remembered and the gavroche larger, so the matting is lost, but I would still hang this:

I love this scarf, and this colorway. It would be excellent framed!

I tried to do that with a La Rosee CSGM. I have one that is a lovely aqua with white and pink roses. Unfortunately it also has a border of an olive color that is about 3 or 4 inches wide and is a color I cannot wear. I took it in to H to see if they would cut the border down, preferably to a contrast hem. Alas, I was told that they will not undertake such a thing as it would modify the original design. However, they would do so if the scarf needed a repair.

I am scared to intentionally damage such a beautiful piece, but I have never worn it as is. Ugh...
Aha. I thought as much. Wrote my reply to @Julide before I read this.
So we know what we have to do.....

I missed this, thank goodness @momasaurus alerted me to your comment. As I had imagined. Sad to hear your idea about the rosee couldn’t be done. I was hoping that it could:flowers:

For sure. Nobody is going to mistake me for a cowboy! But it's just a vibe I can't shake unless I'm wearing it with the most formal suit and shirt combo. It's kind of like my Hola Flamenca, which I pulled out to consider wearing this morning. (Mod shot with my sad-looking pajama shirt)

It's quite a sophisticated scarf, but it screams Minnie Mouse and Hello Kitty to me. I tried tying it on as a top to show off the design. I think that's pretty fab. I'll have to try this under a blazer or with a tank top this summer.

I decided to wear my brand new Tuiga as the SOTD. I was so thrilled to find this with tags still on it. I've been on the hunt for this colorway for ever. It will be perfect for summer. It's still cold and wet here, so not the most seasonal choice. But I couldn't resist doing a test run. I love it with my red glasses; the red hem really coordinates and pops nicely.

Hola Flaminco got a bit of a bad rap when it was issued in the 1980s and the fashion emphasis on status scarf prints was just getting underway. There was such a dearth of designs compared with today. Everywhere you looked there was HF. HF is definitely not a "regal" print with antique gold curlicues and snippets of France's aristocratic heritage in prints by Ledoux or Promenade au Longchamps, to name another staple.

HF was polka dots, for pete's sake, and fashion at that time was taking itself so seriously ("Dress for success") that it was impossible to appreciate whimsy. Polka dots just simply did not convey the message "I am wearing an expensive scarf so I am a class act." Decades later, now that we've gone thru a scarf cycle or two where H randomly bombarded scarves with polka dots (especially 3-4 years ago), HF can be particularly appreciated b/c polka dots are the basis of a witty design.
This is just my opinion, feel free to disagree.

Reading the discussion on cutting down hems — a quick google suggests there are a lot of services that can do a rolled hem. There seem to be more based out in the UK especially. Fundamentally, a rolled hem is not that hard to do — many other brands (not to mention fakers) manage to do it. I am pretty tempted to give one of these services a try with an older scarf.

Uh. Just for reference - is that a royal blue or a navy blue? If the first, I faint, pick myself off the floor, and start frantically googling. If the second, I calm myself and point my bank account to other scarves. (Hi, I’m fizzy and I have blue issues.)

In either case, what a spectacular scarf!!!
Thanks Fizzywater! To answer your question:IMG_20190414_002234735.jpg It's a dark ultramarine/brighter navy, but not royal blue. I'm comparing them in this photo to Tout en Carre, Acte III, Zodiaque, and Turandot. The dark navy of the TeC looks almost black next to it. Acte III's center is almost exactly a match. Zodiaque is royal blue and much lighter and brighter. Turandot is the same shade, but a slightly warmer hue (a touch more violet than Tuiga). Hope that helps!

That's a fascinating perspective. It makes my appreciation and fondness for the scarf even deeper. This is one of those scarves I just couldn't unsee and spent a long time hunting down. Calling it Minnie Mouse isn't meant to be disparaging. It's really just what it feels like to me and I love it because of the association.

It's not hard! I think any good professional can manage. I'm a hobby seamstress and I managed to re-sew a rolled hem on a cheap vintage silk twill scarf that started falling apart after watching a couple of YouTube videos. My amateur job isn't too bad. I think it could be worthwhile, if the alternative is letting the scarf go unwornIMG_20190414_002422480.jpg
